Greetings, battle mages!
It's been a new experience for me in Splinterlands as I have climbed up to Wild format Diamond League II. Gold wasn't as tough as it used to be and I'm getting quite a many wins in Diamond as well. I'm guessing that many players have moved on the other side, to Modern leagues.
Still, with my relatively low SPS stake I'm not enjoying that many reward chests, and in fact, getting even one single Diamond chest is a struggle. I wouldn't mind though because the SPS and card rewards can be really great!
Obviously, so far I have only received potions. 😅
But enough with the rant, this week's Splinterlands Battle Mage Secrets features a new ruleset - FabFour. This means only four cards can be picked so need to choose wisely...
We also have the Stampede ruleset ruleset adding some extra flavor to the battle. I know, my opponents will probably use those "dreaded" Trample monsters but let them! I have something much more powerful in store for them. Let's have a look!
My Team
I have chosen my one, and only, mercenary card, ALRIC STORMBRINGER as a summoner. This means it's gonna be all magic team today as we don't want to spend time working our way through the enemy armor.
However, magic or no magic, my opponent is kinda forced to do this as my tank unit for today is the amazing THANALORIAN SCION.
This is without a doubt the best card in Splinterlands and I have lost count of how many battles I've won just because of her!
This one will surely make no exception as the Thanalorian is extremely difficult to bring down. First of all, she has a very strong armor of 10 hit points. On top of that, she also has the Void Armor ability making it impossible for the opponent magic monsters to break through the armor in the usual way.
In addition to this, Melee units who hit her, get to suffer from the Corrosive Ward ability.
Behind her, I have placed the loyal DJINN OSHANNUS, a powerful magic unit with some anti-magic abilities: Voidy and Phase.
Void ability makes Oshannus an excellent second spot unit as he can take possible Blast shrapnels easily thanks to the ability.
If my plan A should fail, Oshannus would also work well as a secondary tank dodging magic with his Phase ability.
The most cunning part of my plan is to use RIVER HELLONDALE in the middle.
This unit has the Resurrect and that ability is reserved for the Thanalorian. If and when my opponent finally gets through the Thanalorian armor, they are in it again because the resurrected unit comes back to life with full armor!
The best part of this is they can't even use Opportunity monsters to take out River before Thanalorian because Thanalorian has only 1 health point so they are forced to attack on her and River will be safe to bring her back.
In a case, my enemy should have Sneak units, I've placed a unit with plenty of health in the back.
NERISSA TRIDAWN can take a hit or two and will also deal a massive amount of magic damage thanks to her base magic of 3 points and Alric's +1 summoner buff.
This strategy should be almost unbeatable(if they don't have Shatter ability) as the Thanlorian resurrect -tactics will buy us enough time to take them all down.
Entering The Arena
As I suspected, my opponent chose a Trample monster, fast, armored, and powerful Diemonshark was put in front. This one is followed by a Coastal Sentry with her Double Strike ability.
There's also a Deeplurker that has the Opportunity ability but as I mentioned earlier, it's forced to attack the Thanalorian.
Last in line is Swamp Spitter, a great asset with Repair but our magic will just ignore their armor so in this battle, it gives no advantage.
The Battle
You can watch the entire battle HERE or/and continue reading my battle report below!.
ROUND 1
Thanalorians 10-point armor was just enough to take 3 enemy strikes and still leave her alive with a health point. Meanwhile, we managed to destroy their tank, the Diemonshark. The battle wasn't over though as their Coastal Sentry stepped up now and was able to use her double strike ability.
ROUND 2
After Coastal Sentry and friends strikes, Thanalorian is resurrected with fresh armor but she loses it again, but then again, we knock down the Sentry altogether.
ROUND 3
The final round was quick as Oshannus got to attack first. Deeplurker was now gone and Swamp Spitter was in front, in a position from which he couldn't attack anymore. The game was over.
Conclusion
With regular rulesets, I have also been using Repair units to support this Thanalorian/River -strategy but even without them, it was more than enough to buy some valuable time in the FabFour battle.
I'm still surprised I don't see my opponents using Thanalorian Scion that often on the battlefield. Then again, it might be more popular in Modern... nevertheless, it has become an important part of my team lately and I'm closely watching the price and planning on upgrading in the future.
