Con esta cita comienza la película de terror Pesadilla en el Infierno, de fondo se oye una música como de un órgano, la lee un hombre con voz grave y solemne, el sonido de las teclas de una máquina de escribir y la referencia al mismísimo H.P. Lovecraft; ya empieza a hacernos sentir que esta película va directo a nuestras emociones, a nuestra yugular, a nuestra psique... Y eso se agradece.
Esta película es una de las que doy referencia dentro del género de Terror, entre las primeras, y aunque Hereditary sigue siendo mi preferida, Pesadilla en el Infierno está en mi Top 5; y tiene mucho que ver lo factible de su trama, la violencia extrema que lamentablemente no escapa de la realidad, la fotografía, la música, los colores, los detalles de producción, todo te hace sentir incómodo, y hasta me sorprendí en dos ocasiones con alguna lágrima, y esto no me suele ocurrir en este género.
Dirigida y producida por el francés Pascal Laugier, se estrenó en el año 2018. Pertenece al género de Terror y dura 91 minutos. Fue una película difícil de ver por el contenido de violencia, sadismo y la humillación a la que son sometidas las mujeres protagonistas. La vi dos veces, y la segunda vez la sufrí igualmente, pero hubo un plus y es que pude apreciar todas las pistas y guiños que deja el productor a lo largo de ella, y entonces luego surgieron interpretaciones algo diferentes y hasta teorías de que fue lo que nos presentó realmente su productor.
A continuación les haré una Reseña de la película, y aunque te voy a presentar elementos típicos de una película de terror, no te confíes de ello, porque Pesadilla en el Infierno tiene un giro en la trama que no olvidarás nunca y que sé vas a referenciar y a admirar como una pieza del género de Terror. Este giro en la trama me recuerda al ocurrido en la película Seven y me refiero exactamente a esa emoción que me choqueó cuando la vi...
Pero antes, te invito a ver el Trailer:
La película comienza con la familia viajando por la carretera. Se trata de Pauline quien es la mamá, y sus dos hijas adolescentes, Beth que es insegura y temerosa, es aficionada a la lectura, escribe y admira a H.P. Lovecraft, sueña con algún día tener éxito como escritora de terror y es muy protegida por su mamá dada su personalidad. La otra hija es Vera que es segura, pero también es rebelde principalmente porque siente que su mamá quiere mas a Beth. De manera que, ya con estas personalidades tan distintas, las hermanas no tienen buena relación.
Ella viajan porque acaban de heredar una casa antigua de una tía recién fallecida que tenía un gusto muy excéntrico y extraño por las muñecas, de hecho ellas están por toda la casa.
Rápidamente la película entra en la situación de terror, ya que en el minuto 12:48 son atacadas brutalmente por una pareja de asesinos, que de forma muy violenta las golpea.
Pauline es golpeada, pero da mucha batalla para salvar y proteger a sus hijas. Beth practicamente queda paralizada por la situación, y su hermana Vera se lleva la mayor parte, ya que uno de los delincuentes la separa del lugar para abusar de ella.
Finalmente, Pauline saca todas su fuerzas y logra matar a los delincuentes.

Ya luego la historia salta dieciséis años después, en Chicago Beth tiene esposo y un hijo, ya es una escritora del género de terror muy famosa y querida por todos. Una noche recibe una llamada de Vera muy alarmada, gritando le dice a Beth que regrese a la casa, que "ellos" están ahí. Al día siguiente, Beth viaja a su antigua casa.
En su antigua casa está su mamá, y Vera está en el sótano, con un notable deterioro y desequilibrio mental, que le ocasionó toda la experiencia traumática de lo vivido aquella noche.
La casa se ve igual que antes, incluso todavía con las muñecas presentes. Empiezan a ocurrir una serie de eventos muy extraños, que hacen que Beth reviva todo el horror nuevamente, ahora nos vamos a enterar de todo lo grotesco y terrible ocurrió esa noche. Y la película va a realizar en el minuto 49 el giro mas emocionante y emotivo que he visto (si aquí es donde solté mi primera lágrima).
Entiendo que los elementos que he podido contarte parecen típicos, pero te aseguro que esta película es otra cosa menos típica. El clímax y el desenlace son realmente buenos, muy buenos, nos dirige a ese cine de terror que se agradece y que nos deja pensando.
Hasta aquí te puedo adelantar la película. Los últimos momentos son muy fuertes y extremos, con decisiones difíciles y explosivas. Realmente te la recomiendo y te invito a verla.

Fue difícil de ver por las situaciones de violencia contra la mujer, lo grotesco de lo retorcido de las mentes de los delincuentes psicópatas. Es la escencia del terror que me gusta, ese que toca elementos que son factibles, lamentablemente factibles, y con elementos perturbadores como la crueldad humana que son casi soportables, sin tener que ser algo tan bizarro como El Ciempiés Humano ni tan rebuscados como Saw. Si tiene algo que nos recuerda a La Matanza de Texas, pero lo logra de forma elegante.
Los elementos como la casa antigua y las muñecas, son típicos de las películas de terror, pero no fueron usados inadecuadamente. De hecho, luego que ves la película completa, entiendes porqué esos elementos estuvieron presentes. La presencia de la música estilo años 40, también le agrega un toque terrorífico.
Esta producción fue francesa-canadiense y notas las diferencias en la producción, pero sin incomodarte. Su ritmo creo que caracteriza el cine francés, eso fue lo que mas percibí como diferente. Te hace querer más de otras producciones de terror francés, del horror moderno, si es que no estabas acostumbrado como yo a consumirlo.
Logras sentir empatía por los personajes protagónicos, la construcción de los personajes femeninos fueron buenos, sin ser pesados o rebuscados. Si bien los delincuentes no sabemos de ellos en la película, me refiero a las razones de porqué actuaban así, creo que no fue ni necesario, ellos fueron una situación, no son los protagonistas.
Las actuaciones fueron buenas.

With this quote begins the horror movie Ghostland, in the background you can hear music like an organ, read by a man with a deep and solemn voice, the sound of the keys of a typewriter and the reference to HP himself Lovecraft; It is already beginning to make us feel that this film goes straight to our emotions, to our jugular, to our psyche... And that is appreciated.
This movie is one of those that I refer to in the Horror genre, among the first, and although Hereditary is still my favorite, Ghostland is in my Top 5; and it has a lot to do with the feasibility of its plot, the extreme violence that unfortunately does not escape reality, the photography, the music, the colors, the production details, everything makes you feel uncomfortable, and I was even surprised twice with some tears, and this does not usually happen to me in this genre.
Directed and produced by the French Pascal Laugier, it premiered in 2018. It belongs to the Horror genre and lasts 91 minutes. It was a difficult film to watch because of the content of violence, sadism and the humiliation to which the leading women are subjected. I saw it twice, and the second time I suffered it equally, but there was a plus and that is that I was able to appreciate all the clues and winks that the producer leaves throughout it, and then somewhat different interpretations arose and even theories that it was what its producer actually presented to us.
Next I will give you a Review of the movie, and although I am going to present you with typical elements of a horror movie, do not trust it, because Ghostland has a twist in the plot that you will not forget never and I know you are going to reference and admire it as a piece of the Horror genre. This plot twist reminds me of what happened in the movie Seven and I mean exactly that emotion that shocked me when I saw it...

The film begins with the family traveling on the road. It's about Pauline who is the mom, and her two teenage daughters, Beth who is insecure and fearful, loves to read, writes and admires H.P. Lovecraft, she dreams of one day succeeding as a horror writer and is very protected by her mother given her personality. The other daughter is Vera who is safe, but she is also rebellious mainly because she feels that her mother loves Beth more. So, with these very different personalities, the sisters do not have a good relationship.
She travels because they have just inherited an old house from a recently deceased aunt who had a very eccentric and strange taste for dolls, in fact they are all over the house.
The film quickly enters the situation of terror, since at minute 12:48 they are brutally attacked by a couple of murderers, who beat them very violently.
Pauline is beaten, but she fights hard to save and protect her daughters. Beth is practically paralyzed by the situation, and her sister Vera takes most of her, since one of the criminals separates her from her place to abuse her.
Finally, Pauline takes all the strength out of her and manages to kill the criminals.

Then the story jumps sixteen years later, in Chicago Beth has a husband and a son, she is already a very famous writer of the horror genre and loved by all. One night she receives a very alarmed call from Vera, screaming telling Beth to go back to the house, that "they" are there. The next day, Beth travels to her old house.
Her mother is in her old house, and Vera is in the basement, with a notable deterioration and mental imbalance, which caused her the entire traumatic experience of what she experienced that night.
The house looks the same as before, even with the dolls still present. A series of very strange events begin to occur, which makes Beth relive all the horror again, now we are going to find out about everything grotesque and terrible that happened that night. And the movie is going to make at minute 49 the most exciting and emotional twist I've ever seen (if this is where I shed my first tear).
I understand that the elements that I have been able to tell you seem typical, but I assure you that this film is something less typical. The climax and the ending are really good, very good, it directs us to that horror film that is appreciated and that leaves us thinking.
So far I can advance the movie. The last moments are very strong and extreme, with difficult and explosive decisions. I really recommend it and invite you to see it.

It was difficult to see because of the situations of violence against women, the grotesqueness of the twisted minds of psychopathic criminals. It is the essence of terror that I like, the one that touches on elements that are feasible, unfortunately feasible, and with disturbing elements such as human cruelty that are almost bearable, without having to be something as bizarre as The Human Centipede or as gimmicky like Saw. If you have something that reminds us of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but you pull it off elegantly.
Elements like the old house and the dolls are typical of horror movies, but they weren't used inappropriately. In fact, after you see the whole movie, you understand why those elements were present. The presence of 40's style music also adds a terrifying touch.
This production was French-Canadian and you notice the differences in the production, but you don't feel uncomfortable. Its rhythm I think characterizes French cinema, that was what I perceived as different the most. It makes you want more of other French horror productions, of modern horror, if you weren't used to consuming it like I was.
You manage to feel empathy for the main characters, the construction of the female characters was good, without being heavy or far-fetched. Although we do not know about the criminals in the film, I am referring to the reasons why they acted that way, I think it was not even necessary, they were a situation, they are not the protagonists.
The performances were good.
