E N G L I S H

For more than a decade, we have seen how Korean cinema has evolved powerfully, evolving in various aspects of the seventh art (especially horror), but this is a projection of Japanese cinema, which has made great films adaptable from manga and even anime. We know that Asian culture has a particularity to direct their scenes and take us fully into a much more than disturbed environment, but in the case of Train to Busan (Busanhaeng), we see a particularity that is now being seen in the current Korean cinema, and it is that way of directing films in the Western way. Recall that this film received several criticisms for that, and for a zombie "remake" of sorts, the film brings nothing new apart from its dramatic sequence.

E S P A Ñ O L

Personal opinion

I'm not a big fan of zombie-themed horror movies, but one afternoon, being in the intimacy with my partner, he looked up a list of movies that were catalogued as the best of the genre, several of them I had already seen except for this one. We decided to take a look at it and the premise at first seemed a bit repetitive: a virus that zombifies people? Hello Resident Evil, the truth is that I feel that this resource is already too worn out, but being this a 2016 movie and besides a "remake" I think the way they explained them in a few scenes was fine.

However, the zombie theme is something that we are going to see throughout the film, and if we are very knowledgeable about the genre Zombie Apocalypse, it is not worth commenting on it, so I will focus on other aspects that the plot exposes, although I confess that it will be a little inevitable what was already mentioned at the beginning of this paragraph. The environment is different, so it is frightening to be trapped in a narrow train with a bunch of undead, I think the characters are well done, especially in their different elements and personal characteristics, and within them, an antagonist, who could not be missing in this broth full of action and panic.

I have always seen that Asians have a particular way of making movies, and that is one of the things I liked most about their cinema, however, in Train to Busan, I saw too many aspects of Western cinema, which mostly occupy almost the entire plot, taking almost takes the premise of War World Z of a worldwide infection and exciting, but with a different particularity in the infected.

The film also seems to be a critique of Korean society, for example in the work field, where workaholism seems to consume 90% of Koreans' lives, this is an inherent reality in society, and if this is how it is presented in the film, it seems to be a social issue. But these issues don't seem to consume the whole film, they are just elements that are there to give justification to the characters.

I think the dramatic part is a little more shocking than the gore scenes that are presented throughout the film, although, I applaud that it has not lost in the visuals, I think it is one of the few things in which it has not lost its originality. This film is moving because of the main theme that is brewing, not because of the zombie theme, but because of the family theme, and suddenly, the director wanted to create an ending where the only survivors were a representation of the future of the world, I will not mention spoilers, I will simply let you see it.

Conclusions

I found the feature film exciting, something very characteristic of zombie movies, but I feel that in that aspect, it is a production equal to others of this theme. What stimulated me the most was the rest of the plot and the background rooted throughout the film, it helped me to know a little more about the culture and the social problems that coexist there. Drama, combined with action, are two of my favorite mixes since I started watching movies, and I think this cast has masterfully played their characters and I was able to connect with them. It's a highly recommended film to watch as long as you can hold the feelings in your throat.
