I am a lover of science fiction and fantasy movies and lately I have decided to take a trip into the past of cinematography recalling the most popular movies of this genre that marked my adolescence. This time we have a film both disturbing and enigmatic, with a story based on one of the most popular physics theories in the world. Here we can find drama, suspense, images and shocking stories, if you have seen this movie you will understand what I mean.

Soy un amante de las películas de ciencia ficción y fantasía y últimamente he decidido hacer un viaje en el pasado de la cinematografía rememorando las películas de este género más populares que marcaron mi adolescencia. En esta ocasión tenemos una película tanto perturbadora como enigmática, con una historia basada en una de las teorías de la física más populares del mundo. Aquí podremos encontrar drama, mucho suspenso, imágenes e historias impactantes, si has visto esta película ya entenderás lo que te digo.
'The Butterfly Effect' is an American film released in 2004, written and directed by Eric Bress and J. Mackye Gruber, was produced by the film company New Line Cinema with a budget of $ 13 million grossing over 96 million, being one of the highest grossing films of its time despite receiving terrible reviews, but that ultimately did not stop the success of the film. It starred Ashton Kutcher and Amy Smart along with Kevin Schmidt, Melora Walters, Elden Henson, Eric Stoltz, John Patrick Amedori, Cameron Bright, among others.
The behind-the-scenes crew includes Michael Suby on music. In the photography we have Matthew F. Leonetti and as in charge of special effects we have Peter Amundson, this combination of the work of the three has made an excellent appreciation especially in the part of the flashbacks.
’The Butterfly Effect’ es una película norteamericana estrenada en el año 2004, escrita y dirigida por Eric Bress y J. Mackye Gruber, fue producida por la empresa cinematográfica New Line Cinema con un presupuesto de 13 millones de dólares recaudando más de 96 millones, siendo una de las películas más taquilleras de su época a pesar de recibir terribles críticas, pero eso no detuvo en definitiva el éxito de la película. Fue protagonizada por Ashton Kutcher y Amy Smart junto con Kevin Schmidt, Melora Walters, Elden Henson, Eric Stoltz, John Patrick Amedori, Cameron Bright, entre otros.
Entre el personal encargado del detrás cámara del filme tenemos a Michael Suby en la parte de la música. En la fotografía tenemos a Matthew F. Leonetti y como encargado de los efectos especiales tenemos a Peter Amundson, esta combinación del trabajo de los tres ha hecho una excelente apreciación sobre todo en la parte de los flashbacks.
The plot is quite interesting and at the beginning it leaves us quite confused, but as the film progresses, we will understand the events that happen to the main character. The story focuses on Evan Treborn (Ashton Kutcher), a 20-year-old psychology student with mental gaps about his adolescence and childhood. Within the main character's life strongly influence other characters such as Kayleigh Miller (Amy Smart), Kayleigh's brother; Tommy (William Lee Scott) and his neighbor Lenny (Elden Henson). One day, Evan discovers that he can travel through time with the help of an old diary he wrote himself, transporting his present mind into the body of his past selves, at first Evan tries to readjust the missing and forgotten pieces of his past, but then realizes that in doing so, his actions strongly impact the future.
The 'Butterfly Effect' theory is one of the most widely accepted chaos theories for understanding multiverses or parallel worlds. According to the American mathematician and meteorologist Edward Norton Lorenz, The Butterfly Effect explains that there are parallel worlds that are physically the same but in events are completely different, in one there may be a butterfly fluttering and in the other there is not, the things that happen in these worlds individually are very different, for example, in one world there may be a zombie apocalypse while in the other there is not.
La trama es bastante interesante y al principio nos deja bastante confundidos, pero a medida que va avanzando la película, comprenderemos los sucesos que acaecen sobre el personaje principal. La historia se centra en Evan Treborn (Ashton Kutcher), un estudiante de psicología de 20 años con lagunas mentales sobre su adolescencia e infancia. Dentro de la vida del personaje principal influyen fuertemente otros personajes como Kayleigh Miller (Amy Smart), el hermano de Kayleigh; Tommy (William Lee Scott) y su vecino Lenny (Elden Henson). Un día, Evan descubre que puede viajar por el tiempo con la ayuda de un viejo diario que él mismo escribió, transportando su mente actual al cuerpo de sus Yo del pasado, al principio Evan intenta reajustar las piezas faltantes y olvidadas de su pasado, pero luego se da cuenta que al hacerlo, sus acciones repercuten fuertemente en el futuro.
La teoría del ‘Efecto Mariposa’ es una de las teorías del caos más aceptadas para comprender los multiversos o mundos paralelos. Según el matemático y meteorólogo estadounidense Edward Norton Lorenz, el Efecto Mariposa explica que existen mundos paralelos físicamente iguales pero en acontecimientos son completamente distintos, en uno puede existir una mariposa aleteando y en el otro no, las cosas que suceden en estos mundos individualmente son muy diferentes, por ejemplo, en un mundo puede existir un apocalipsis zombi mientras que en el otro no.
In the movie, this theory is explained in a totally different way, the protagonist uses his ability to go back to the past to change the future, but he does not realize that time is linear and anything we do in the past has very serious consequences in the future, for example, in the movie, Evan, realizing that he can change things, uses his ability to go back to his childhood and make his girlfriend Kayleigh's father, This as a consequence created a future where Evan is happy with Kayleigh in college with a view to propose marriage, but his crazy brother Tommy, who had been released from prison, arrives one night and destroys Evan's car, this as a result got a fight between the two, causing the brutal death of Tommy at the hands of Evan going to jail.
Within the story there is no mention of the Butterfly Effect theory, however, the environment of the film is wrapped in this theory. Evan, by returning to his past self, was creating a parallel world just like ours, with different events in the present. As the story changed, the same characters were constantly changing roles driven by the devastating effects that occurred in the past. Evan, tries to change the past over and over again to make his and his friends' lives better, but he realizes that every time he does something bad happens and it gets worse and worse.
En la película, esta teoría es explicada de una manera totalmente diferente, el protagonista utiliza su habilidad de volver al pasado para cambiar el futuro, pero no se da cuenta que el tiempo es lineal y cualquier cosa que hagamos en el pasado tiene consecuencias muy graves en el futuro, por ejemplo, en la película, Evan, al darse cuenta que puede cambiar las cosas, utiliza su habilidad para volver a su niñez y hacer que el padre de su novia Kayleigh, no abuse de ella sino que vaya contra su hermano, esto como consecuencia creó un futuro donde Evan es feliz con Kayleigh en la universidad con miras de proponerle matrimonio, pero su loco hermano Tommy, quien había salido de prisión, llega una noche y destroza el auto de Evan, esto como consecuencia obtuvo una lucha entre los dos, provocando la muerte brutal de Tommy a manos de Evan yendo éste a la cárcel.
Dentro del relato no encontramos mención sobre la teoría del Efecto Mariposa, sin embargo, el entorno del largometraje está envuelto de esta teoría. Evan, al volver a su yo del pasado, estaba creando un mundo paralelo igual al nuestro, con sucesos distintos en el presente. Al cambiar la historia, los mismos personajes cambiaban de rol constantemente dirigidos por los devastadores efectos ocurridos en el pasado. Evan, intenta cambiar el pasado una y otra vez para hacer mejor su vida y la de sus amigos, pero se da cuenta que cada vez que lo hace algo malo ocurre y cada vez es peor.

Reaching a breaking point, Evan decides to end it all by pushing away the woman he has loved since the first day he met her when they were kids and thus everyone else had happy and content lives. This event before the end of the movie was pretty poor in my opinion, if the character knew that going back to the past was hurting him why didn't he just stop? It's the only thing I didn't think was good about the movie, but otherwise, as far as I'm concerned, I think it's pretty good.
I've read reviews that attack the movie heavily, some attack Ashton Kutcher and I'm not really sure why, I think his performance as Evan was very good and also I didn't think he was such a bad idea to play the character. Other critical reviews attack the plot but recognize that it is entertaining for a teenage audience, in this I completely disagree since the story is quite deep and strong, with a complicated theme on which the director and screenwriter duo is based, but well, between tastes and colors, I think this movie has achieved its goal which is to impress the viewer and you don't have to be a teenager to do it.
If you like classic suspense thrillers, with a quite original idea for a film, I recommend this movie which has been one of the most magnificent I have seen, whenever I find it out there I don't hesitate to play it, I give it a 7.5/10 as one of my favorite classics that transmits me a different message every time I glimpse it.
Al llegar a un punto de quiebre, Evan decide terminar con todo alejando a la mujer que ama desde el primer día en que la conoció cuando eran niños y de esta manera todos los demás tuvieron vidas felices y conformes. Este suceso antes del final de la película fue bastante pobre a mi parecer, ¿si el personaje sabía que al volver al pasado hacía daño porque únicamente no se detuvo? Es lo único que no me pareció bueno de la película, pero por lo demás, a lo que a mí respecta, me parece muy bien.
He leído críticas que atacan a la película fuertemente, algunos atacan a Ashton Kutcher y no estoy muy seguro del porqué, creo que su interpretación como Evan ha sido muy buena y además no me pareció tan mala idea para interpretar el personaje. Otras reseñas críticas atacan la trama pero reconocen que es entretenida para un público adolescente, en esto estoy completamente en desacuerdo ya que la historia es bastante profunda y fuerte, con un tema complicado en el que se basa el dúo de directores y guionistas, pero bueno, entre gustos y colores, yo creo que esta película ha conseguido su objetivo que es el de impresionar al espectador y no tienes que ser un adolescente para hacerlo.
Si a ustedes les gustan los thrillers clásicos de suspenso, con una idea bastante original para un filme, les recomiendo esta película que ha sido una de las más magnificas que he visto, siempre que la encuentro por ahí no dudo en reproducirla, le doy un 7.5/10 como uno de mis clásicos preferidos que me transmite un mensaje distinto cada vez que la vislumbro.
