Mortal Kombat 2021 Movie Trailer Released

Mortal Kombat is one of those gaming franchises that should have been an easy fit for a movie. Somehow this has not happened even after two, three, attempts now. I blame the first one’s failure to connect with fans on that MPAA rating – PG-13. Seriously? It was like they made the movie based on the Super Nintendo version of the game or something. Then the second movie, Mortal Kombat Annihilation, it was PG-13 as well. This one I blame bad choices for its failure. It was like the studio was like, we cannot do worse than the first movie. Then they went and did worse.

Mortal Kombat 2021

This new Mortal Kombat movie is apparently a reboot for the franchise. Finally, fans can expect Rated R brutality and fatalities. The setting for this entry is a little later than the first Mortal Kombat movie though. The trailer shows off a few of the characters and some of them are from much later releases than were available for that original movie.

Larger cast of characters

The original Mortal Kombat movie featured mostly characters from the first game. That was fine, they could have rocked it had they had an R rating for the film. Seriously, the characters were there and evolved – just the movie studio dropped the ball hard.

The 2021 Mortal Kombat will feature characters beyond the first game. Shao Kahn, Mileena, Kitana, Jax, and more will be battling in this reboot. Based on the trailer we will be getting some information on Jax’s backstory and history of Scorpion. Should be an interesting story arc finding out more about the yellow ninja.
