For the past six weeks, Marvel has been releasing an episode of its new series, Moon Knight, every Wednesday. I was three weeks late into the series but I caught up immediately after episode 3 and was able to follow it for its remaining three weeks. It's hard to believe that that much time has passed already and the first season of the show is over.
That's right, the first season of Marvel's Moon Knight just ended on Wednesday. I did not expect the season to end after just 6 episodes so it came as a shock to me when I heard it. As you can imagine, minutes after the release, the media were already scouring their sources to know if the series would be renewed for a second season or not. While there has been no official statement by Marvel on Twitter or anywhere else, the public is optimistic that there would be a second season especially with the way the first season ended.
You see, there has been quite the hype surrounding this series but not enough to blow up your twitter feed especially with something like Doctor Strange taking up all the attention. Nevertheless, Moon Knight has had a lot of people talking and wanting more of it. I have friends over here that saw every episode before me and hyped it so much that I'd drop everything to watch it. But is it really worth the hype?

About Moon Knight
With this series, there are so many questions, so many revelations and even more questions. The story is about a guy, Steven Grant, who seems normal but has a lot of deep issues. To the general public, Steven is just your everyday guy with a crappy job, a very condescending boss and quite the obsession for Egyptian culture and mythology. From the start of the series, we are made to believe that Steven has some sort of sleeping problem and so he takes precautions before he goes to bed. He ties himself, puts sand around his bed to capture his footprints in case he leaves and even tapes and bolts his door. But Steven's life is a lot more complicated than he can ever imagine.
Right from the first episode, Steven's life starts to get worse and you start to feel really bad for him. We discover that instead of a sleeping disorder, he suffers from Dissociative Identity Disorder (or DID for short) and has an entirely different life as his second identity, Marc Spector. Unlike Steven who has it terrible with the ladies and is insignificant in the grand scheme of things, Marc is charming, is married and is a superhero working with an Egyptian god to save the world. Awesome right?
It turns out that Marc is the avatar of Khonshu, the Egyptian god of the Moon and Time, and helps him bring his "vengeance" to people that have done wrong. His powers include flight (which he doesn't really use for some reason), super strength, healing, agility and cool white eyes. For season one, Khonshu and Marc (and Steven) try to stop Khonshu's former Avatar, Harrow, from resurrecting an Egyptian goddess called Ammit. Now Harrow, who is Khonshu's former avatar, is Ammit's current avatar and works with Ammit towards a similar objective like Khonshu's. The only difference in Ammit's ambitions is that she judges people by evil deeds they would commit in the future and basically throws the entire concept of "innocent before proven guilty" out the window.
While trying to stop Harrow, Marc and Steven must face the traumas of their past and settle the conflict inside them. Marc must fix his relationship with his wife, Layla, and open up to her on a dark secret he has been hiding. Together, Marc and Steven, with Layla, go through a lot of crazy, dangerous and super cool adventures in a bid to stop the resurrection of Ammit. Will the succeed? Movie analysis
An Ok adaptation from the comics:
The Moon Knight character has come a long way. The story of Khonshu's "Fist of Vengeance" goes all the way back to the '70s when Moon Knight was depicted as just a werewolf hunter. This origin is the reason he has a silver suit and moon related fighting accessories to begin with. A long road of evolution has brought the character to what he is today - a sick man with many personalities sadly being taken advantage by a god.
Speaking of personalities, Marvel did pretty well to bring out that part of the protagonist just like they did with Legion. The backstory of how Marc developed his Dissociative Identity Disorder is also very well told. In the first season of this series, we are made aware of the personalities of Marc Spector and Stephen Grant with a little teaser of a third one in the end. This little short introduction of a third personality really keeps the audience guessing and wanting more of the story. I really think that in season 2, Marc Spector will discover a couple more personalities in him than he knows of.
From creepy to a lot less scary
At the beginning of this series, Steven faces a number of creepy situations that really get to the audience. However, it's sad that that element of horror totally disappears as the story progressed. Sure there is obvious effort from the crew to keep that horror element alive but in some instances it just gets kind of laughable. Sorry Marvel.
Great Music and Soundtracks
I really think the music and soundtracks were just right for the setting. Because the movie is mostly set in Egypt, the use of the Egyptian Pentatonic scale really gave that feel of the Egyptian culture. The sound tracks were properly composed and/or chosen for the scenes they were used in. If you notice soundtracks like I do, you will probably think so too.
The Last Battle could have been better
The final battle between Harrow and Moon Knight and Layla were good. The stunts were really good and the balance was ok. I enjoyed that fight but I just can't help but feel that the fight between Ammit and Khonshu could have been better. The battle between the gods just felt like something you can see in Power Rangers. I was really unimpressed with it especially with the entire season being about Ammit. Ammit's defeat could have also been better.
What were these guys useful for?
The people in the image above are avatars of other gods. When Marc asked about the other gods, Khonshu was uneasy and stressed their so-called wrath. Their power was even demonstrated when a counsel was requested by Khonshu. They were even the ones that imprisoned Khonshu in stone. However, it's just sad that their power was totally downplayed in the end. I really think these guys should have been given a little more relevance. Even if they were to be defeated, at least they could have included that fight scene rather than try to save screen time.
Emotions
For sure there is a lot of emotions in this series. Trust me you will feel the emotions in this movie as you are exposed to the traumas of Marc Spector and how Steven Grant became a coping mechanism for a life so unbearable to live. We can see how Marc tries to cover up the wounds of his past even from his alter ego because the past is so difficult for him to relive. We are able to see how one silly decision he makes as a child sets him down a very dark path until his life spirals completely out of control. Marc breaks and crumbles so bad that he creates personalities to live realities of his own making. All these are just very sad to watch. In my opinion, there was enough screen time allocated for Marc and Stephen to deal with a lot of inner conflicts that had been left unchecked for decades.
Yes, Marc's story is very sad but I feel like Layla's emotions were downplayed. Layla lost her father in a very uneasy way but that was not really talked about after it was mentioned. After the truth of her dad comes out, Layla is sad and angry and very emotional but very quickly, the focus of the story changes to something else and her ordeal is never mentioned again. Other things happen that should have sent Layla down the long path of grief but that never happens. The story just continues because why not.
Khonshu: The Wolf in god clothing
I'm not sure the title describes how I feel about Khonshu. For a god determined to protect the innocent, Khonshu really has little regard for human feelings. He is a lying and manipulative god who will do what it takes to get what he wants. He really does not care what happens to his avatar. At a point when Marc is temporarily indisposed, Khonshu quickly tries to make Layla his new avatar without stopping to consider how she feels about Marc's situation. He doesn't even show any form of emotion regarding Marc, someone he had known for years. He also does not keep his promise of setting Marc free after his deed was done rather he found a different way to exploit him.
Oscar Isaac!
There's a lot of criticism on Twitter on the role of Oscar Issac as the protagonist in Moon Knight. Some people think he isn't the best pick for the role and that some actors could have done better.
My take?
Oscar Isaac did a great job as Marc Spector and Stephen Grant. I think a lot of people don't fully appreciate how difficult it is to constantly switch between two different characters. There has to be a lot of psychological preparation before someone can completely keep one persona aside and continue with a totally different one. Oscar Isaac did really good in this aspect. He was also able to add the element of comedy in this series despite the truckload of trauma Marc and Stephen go through. A great job indeed!
My Big Take on Moon Knight
It's really wonderful that Marvel decided to give this old character his own series. With the many Marvel series available, it's really nice to see one that isn't about the occasional characters we see everyday. This movie came with the right amount of hype. It wasn't too hyped but it was not too underrated either. I have even scoured this community for a review but I am yet to find one. Maybe a lot of people have not heard about this series yet.
Well, If you're looking to see something different in a Marvel series, then you should definitely see Moon Knight. The story is really good and the cast are well chosen. The special effects are very good too. I won't say the movie is great but it's just good enough if you have some time to spare.
Moon Knight was good but it definitely could have been better. I think what really saved this series was the cliffhanger at the end of season 1.Because of the manner season 1 ended, I'm really optimistic that there would be a second season. Well, let's just wait and see what happens.

Durante las últimas seis semanas, Marvel ha lanzado un episodio de su nueva serie, Moon Knight, todos los miércoles. Llegué tres semanas tarde a la serie, pero me puse al día inmediatamente después del episodio 3 y pude seguirlo durante las tres semanas restantes. Es difícil creer que ya haya pasado tanto tiempo y que la primera temporada del programa haya terminado.

Acerca del Caballero Luna
Con esta serie, hay tantas preguntas, tantas revelaciones y aún más preguntas. La historia trata sobre un chico, Steven Grant, que parece normal pero tiene muchos problemas profundos. Una adaptación de Ok de los cómics:
El personaje de Moon Knight ha llegado un largo camino. La historia del "Puño de la Venganza" de Khonshu se remonta a los años 70, cuando el Caballero Luna era representado simplemente como un cazador de hombres lobo. Este origen es la razón por la que, para empezar, tiene un traje plateado y accesorios de lucha relacionados con la luna. Un largo camino de evolución ha llevado al personaje a lo que es hoy: un hombre enfermo con muchas personalidades tristemente aprovechado por un dios.
Hablando de personalidades, Marvel hizo bastante bien en resaltar esa parte del protagonista tal como lo hicieron con Legion. La historia de fondo de cómo Marc desarrolló su trastorno de identidad disociativo también está muy bien contada. En la primera temporada de esta serie, conocemos las personalidades de Marc Spector y Stephen Grant con un pequeño adelanto de una tercera al final. Esta pequeña y breve introducción de una tercera personalidad realmente mantiene a la audiencia adivinando y queriendo más de la historia. Realmente creo que en la temporada 2, Marc Spector descubrirá un par de personalidades más en él de las que él conoce.

Debido a que la película se desarrolla principalmente en Egipto, el uso de la escala pentatónica egipcia realmente le dio esa sensación de la cultura egipcia. Las pistas de sonido se compusieron y/o eligieron correctamente para las escenas en las que se usaron. Si observa bandas sonoras como las mías, probablemente también piense lo mismo.
The Last Battle podría haber sido mejor
La batalla final entre Harrow y Moon Knight y Layla fue buena. Las acrobacias eran realmente buenas y el equilibrio estaba bien. Disfruté esa pelea, pero no puedo evitar sentir que la pelea entre Ammit y Khonshu podría haber sido mejor. La batalla entre los dioses se sintió como algo que puedes ver en Power Rangers. Realmente no me impresionó, especialmente porque toda la temporada se trata de Ammit. La derrota de Ammit también podría haber sido mejor.
¿Para qué eran útiles estos chicos?
Las personas en la imagen de arriba son avatares de otros dioses. Cuando Marc preguntó por los otros dioses, Khonshu se inquietó y enfatizó su supuesta ira. Emociones
Seguro que hay muchas emociones en esta serie. En mi opinión, hubo suficiente tiempo de pantalla asignado para que Marc y Stephen lidiaran con muchos conflictos internos que no se habían controlado durante décadas.
Sí, la historia de Marc es muy triste, pero siento que las emociones de Layla fueron minimizadas. Layla perdió a su padre de una manera muy incómoda, pero en realidad no se habló de eso después de que se mencionó. Después de que sale a la luz la verdad sobre su padre, Layla está triste, enojada y muy emocional, pero muy rápidamente, el enfoque de la historia cambia a otra cosa y su terrible experiencia nunca se vuelve a mencionar. Suceden otras cosas que deberían haber enviado a Layla por el largo camino del dolor, pero eso nunca sucede. La historia continúa porque por qué no.
Khonshu: El lobo vestido de dios

Oscar Isaac hizo un gran trabajo como Marc Spector y Stephen Grant. Creo que mucha gente no aprecia completamente lo difícil que es cambiar constantemente entre dos personajes diferentes. Tiene que haber mucha preparación psicológica antes de que alguien pueda dejar a un lado por completo a una persona y continuar con otra totalmente diferente. Oscar Isaac lo hizo muy bien en este aspecto. También pudo agregar el elemento de comedia en esta serie a pesar de la gran cantidad de traumas que atraviesan Marc y Stephen. Un gran trabajo de hecho!
Mi gran opinión sobre Moon Knight
Es realmente maravilloso que Marvel haya decidido darle a este viejo personaje su propia serie. Esta película vino con la cantidad correcta de publicidad. No fue demasiado publicitado pero tampoco demasiado subestimado. Bueno, si buscas ver algo diferente en una serie de Marvel, definitivamente deberías ver Moon Knight. La historia es muy buena y el elenco está bien elegido. Los efectos especiales también son muy buenos. No diré que la película es genial, pero es lo suficientemente buena si tienes algo de tiempo libre.
Moon Knight fue bueno, pero definitivamente podría haber sido mejor. Creo que lo que realmente salvó a esta serie fue el suspenso al final de la temporada 1. Debido a la forma en que terminó la temporada 1, soy muy optimista de que habrá una segunda temporada. Bueno, esperemos y veamos qué sucede.
