Today I finished watching "Word of Honor" (山河令, or "Shan He Ling"), a Chinese drama based on the original novel BL (Boys Love), "Faraway Wanderers" (天涯 客) written by Priest, of Wuxia genre.
Chinese productions always have bittersweet endings, the protagonists rarely have a happy ending, because in Asia, unlike in Latin America (and a good part of the West), they appreciate and value more the path and the development of the story, rather than the conclusion.
That's why I like them so much. They take their time to build the relationships between the characters, everyone has their place in the world, no character is too small or insignificant for their actions to have no relevant effect on the development of events.
It is easy to find countless little beauties and treasures in the briefest of seconds, in the most everyday scenes or in the most natural interactions (like when the characters sit down to share a meal or brush each other's hair).
It's not the first Chinese drama I've watched, but it's the first one that leaves this sweet taste in my mouth; I want to drown myself in fanarts and fanfictions of Zhou Zi Shu x Wen Ke Xing, and Gu Xiang x Cao Wei Ning ( ღ'ᴗ'ღ ) 💕

My synopsis of the series:
20 years ago, a martial arts hero created "The Armory", a hidden building full of very valuable mystical texts about techniques of every kind of martial art and style, also, it keeps 2 unique books of its kind, one is the "Book of Yin and Yang", with medical knowledge able to cure any disease in the world, and the other, the "Book of the 6 Paths", with the secret to acquire immortality.
"The Armory" is coveted by many people, and is locked for security so that its contents do not fall into the wrong hands. It can only be opened with a special lock, divided into 5 pieces, called the "Crystal Armor", plus a key of which no one knows its whereabouts.
The 5 pieces of the "Crystal Armor" are each in the hands of each leader of the 5 martial sects belonging to the "5 Lakes Alliance", martial heroes who killed the creator of the armory when he turned evil.
Zhou Zi Shu is the former leader of "The Window of Heaven" (a sect dedicated to serving the royal family of the time) who disguised as a wanderer wanders the world after many betrayals and a past filled with murder, guilt and regret.
Wen Ke Xing is a mysterious man (apparently refined and chivalrous) who appears to Zhou everywhere, saves him more than once, and begins to follow him. He calls himself a "Philanthropist."
Along the way, they both become involved in the shadow war going on between the sects and the conspiracies to get the "Crystal Armor" and open "The Armory": finding themselves with the duty to help the orphan Zhang Cheng Ling, the only survivor of his sect's massacre, to reach safety with his late father's brothers of honor.

"Word of Honor" addresses specific topics that I was very excited about, and would be the main reasons why I highly recommend it:
"YOUR SOULMATE"
Finding your soul mate represents the most impossible and precious longing to come true. Prodigious martial arts masters leave the martial world, fame and titles, when they get their soul mate, and both get the reason for everything in the company of that special other person.
A little late in the story, appears a group of 4 old men in a boat (3 men and 1 woman) who stole my heart with their story.
~ They call them "The 4 Sages of An Xian" ~
The first are Pei Feng (husband) and Qiao Xing (wife), both grew up and fell in love in the same sect, both are martial artists. Then there is the third member Du Yu Qian, who although possesses no martial skills, is a prodigious musician, and finally He Yi Fan, with innate ability for martial arts, whom his 3 friends helped him get off the streets, and out of the life of a criminal as a bandit he was.
These 4 lovable characters appear as old men to attend the "Heroes Conference" by invitation. They explain to you that after a life of travels, exploits and adventures together, they retired to live in seclusion in a forest, away from everything, and that it's been 15 years since they went out into the world.
~ They define them as "a group looking like celestial immortals" ~
It was assumed that after attending this conference, they would retire from the world to happily live out their last years of life in the home they had formed in the forest, but the 4 sages are assaulted... 3 of them are killed, and 1 commits suicide (ಥ﹏ಥ)
Pei Feng (the husband) is seriously wounded and dies in the arms of Qiao Xing (his wife). He Yi Fan (the former bandit) tries to defend them and is poisoned, loses his sanity, and muder Qiao Xing before he is killed.
Du Yu Qian (the musician), the only survivor, in tears and heartbroken, suicides by cutting his own throat; before doing so, he mentions that life is meaningless if he has lost his soul mates.
The reason for all this disaster was the copies Wen Ke Xing created of one of the pieces of the "Crystal Armor", to create anarchy and madness among the people who covet the lock, so that they all kill each other. He never meant to harm innocent people, and painfully regrets the death of the sages, whom he saw as a precious ideal.

"THE UNCONVENTIONAL FAMILY"
A constant in the series is that you are presented with father and mother figures (even if they are neither fathers nor mothers) adopting children in a state of abandonment, slaves, orphans from other sects, or nephews and nieces as their own children.
The dynamics of the relationship of Zhou Zi Shu and Wen Ke Xing to protect and raise Zhang Cheng Ling is unusually fluid, even though both become his teachers, the affection and treatment that the boy has for them is like two fathers, even Zhang Cheng Ling recognizes and mentions aloud more than once that Zhou Zi Shu and Wen Ke Xing are soul mates, and he says it with absolute affection and naturalness (there is no questioning or mockery or prejudice).
Sure, there are scenes where Wen Ke Xing is singled out as "the wife", but far from being annoyed, it's a comment welcomed by everyone, including himself, even if he doesn't have feminine behaviors.
Both teachers are shown as protective, wise parents, concerned about the education, welfare and future of their disciple, but above all, they are unconditional and several times in the series we witness that they are willing to sacrifice their lives for the sake of the boy.
"PRIDE AND DEVOTION"
Happily, I found in this series one of the character traits that I like the most: The all-powerful one who goes soft masita when it comes to his loved one 💞
Wen Ke Xing's flirtatious and cheerful mood makes us forget that he is a very dangerous killer, who is the leader of a valley full of demons, ghosts and who knows what other kind of evil creatures.
However, from the moment he meets Zhou, to say he's nice is a super understatement. Wen is unabashedly flirtatious, condescending and eager for Zhou's attention.
As soon as the series begins we see him chasing Zhou and appearing everywhere, appearing to him on the road, the banks on one side, a forest, Wen always "casually appearing" offering anything Zhou might need on his journey.
If it is hot, he appears with a tea table by the side of the road, in front of Zhou, whom he immediately invites to sit down. If it's night, he offers him food and comfortable shelter (on a very fancy boat with servants to attend to them!) (ʘᗩʘ')
Of the best scenes of this type, is when Zhou and his disciple arrive in a village and are exhausted, they need to rest, but there is only one inns. The clerk tells him that he cannot give him any room because the entire inn was reserved by "a lord."
Guess who rented the whole inn.
Wen Ke Xing appears, and offers her to take his room, the best room in the inn (which is quite luxurious.) Anything to get closer to Zhou! (人ゝω・）
In the end Zhou agrees, and slams the door in Wen's face, throwing him out, who doesn't bother and seems happy, even though he didn't even get a decent conversation with the reason for his attentions.
Even his servant Gu Xiang mentions that she likes it when she is next to "the sick one" (Zhou seems to be suffering from a terminal illness) because her master seems "more human."

"LOVE"
Unlike what we are used to in the West, depictions of love in Chinese dramas do not jump to address sexual or suggestive themes, nor is it always about getting to the task of seeing the protagonists together, married, with family. Or not at first. Not directly.
Love has a reason, and the feeling is built on shared experiences, courage, sacrifice and trust, not assumptions or idealizations. Love is not perfect from the start and it doesn't come out of nowhere just because it's pretty and happy.
"THE PARENTS AND THE CHILDREN / LOYALTY AND BETRAYALTY"
In "Word of Honor" there are many tragedies in every family and every sect, there are betrayals, murders, conspiracies, many broken families, tortured parents and helpless children.
But what I want to emphasize here is that you are presented with complex relationships where the "baddest character" can be authentically the most devoted, loving, helpful and unconditional son, even though he has not received authentic love or recognition from that person.
He is an adopted child raised in the shadows, unrecognized by Zhao Jing, whom he adores and is blindly unconditional to.
As the chapters go by we learn that Zhao Jing doesn't really love anyone and The Scorpion King (Prince Xie) knows it, knows he is lying to him, knows he is going to betray him, knows he is promising his head to the leader of the "Gentle Sword Sect", and yet, the poor Scorpion King continually gives his father many chances to prove to him that he means something more to him than a tool.
In the end, and against all assumptions, The Scorpion King makes an arrangement with the heroes of the story, so that the moment they unmask his father (Zhao Jing) and defeat him, they don't kill him.
Prince Xie says that despite everything, he is his father, and that as a family they only have each other, and that he will take care of the (which by the way, the man is left mute and paraplegic, like a doll).
Wei Ke Xing, after the murder of his parents in front of his eyes, is kidnapped as a child and grows up in the "Valley of Ghosts" (an inhospitable place where the law of the strongest rules). He grows up being mistreated and fighting for his survival. As an adult, he starts a revolt, assassinates the current King of the "Valley of Ghosts", and becomes its leader, commanding an army of more than 3,000 supernatural beings.
And being so powerful and "evil", everything he does, he does in memory of his beloved parents, to avenge the massacre of his sect ("The Immortal Medical Valley"), which was peaceful and full of doctors with valuable knowledge who selflessly helped thousands of people. Their home, the "Valley of the Healers", met a very sad fate.
"For if we children are not capable of honoring the memory of our parents, we are no better than animals"
"IMMORTALITY: THE UNION OF MAN AND NATURE"
One of the most important books in "The Armory" teaches you how to achieve supposed immortality, the union of man and nature. "The Book of the 6 Ways."
At the end of the series, we learn that this immortality is relative. Relative because it is conditioned that the person who manages to master this knowledge and complete a series of rites successfully, must live in a very cold place, and feed on only water and ice, because secular food ages you.
This explains why Ye Baiyi ("Immortal Sword of Chang Ming Mountain") eats so much, and with such delight. After 100 years of immortality and eating only ice and water, isolated on an icy mountain, he realized he was dead in life, and that it would be a good idea to wander around the mortal world for a while （'▽`)
"Special Mentions"
"THE PERFORMANCES"
First of all I must name the actor Gong Jun (the super handsome Wei Ke Xing), his facial register, his expressions, the emotions he conveys and his demeanor are just... take your breath away. His character is difficult to play because he constantly pretends to have more than one personality (or just... he's crazy).
Then there is Prince Xie, the Scorpion King, from the first time he appeared he is fascinating. The actor put a lot of effort into his performance, and I think it's the most natural feeling of them all... and he's also fucking handsome.
Cao Wei Ning, who is the epitome of the cinnamon roll par excellence (I don't know if the glint in his eyes was put in digitally or with contact lenses, but it reminds you of a golden retriever... I cried a lot when his master Zhou Zi murdered him by breaking his neck on his wedding day, in front of his fiancée, Qin Jiu Xiao).
Ghost Bo Qing Bu Zhu (very dignified, very regal, very everything, I love her), and of course Ye Baiyi because he knows he is the most badass among all these pretentious, childish mortals.
"COSTUME PRODUCTION"
The costumes I think are one of the strongest points of the production (next to the locations), each outfit is harmonious and representative of each character's character, the color palettes are very well chosen, there is a lot of care also in the hairstyle and makeup of all the actors. You will not see a piece of clothing out of place or not meticulously pressed/starched in this series.
The Costume Director did a great job in the selection of textiles and embroideries, there are exquisitely fine works, especially in the last chapters (where the cut of the costumes and their colors have meanings that make the plot richer).
Who takes the prize for best dressed is, without a doubt, Wei Ke Xing, his outfits are absurdly handsome and tailor-made. That man is always dressed up and better polished than china cup.
✦ FAVORITE EPISODE ✦
In this chapter, Zhou Zi Shu has been kidnapped and is tortured, he had to leave "The Mansion of the 4 Seasons" (his old/new home) and voluntarily give himself up to protect his disciple, and Wen Ke Xing, who used up all his life energy trying to keep alive the (supposedly) last subordinate alive who swore loyalty to Zhau when he was leader of "The Heaven's Window".
Then along comes this group of young strangers who sneak Zhou out of prison, put him in a small carriage and flee for their lives, but they are intercepted by their captors, and it looks like they will all be killed.
It is openly mentioned that Wei Ke Xing is leader of the "Valley of Ghosts", and he admits it, while an army of ghosts under his orders appear and make the bad guys flee.
We learn that the 18 boys who rescued Zhou are children raised by the last surviving friend Zhou had, who died in Wei's arms, whom he entrusted to protect them and accept them as disciples.
Now "The Mansion of the 4 Seasons", once in ruins and deserted, has 19 disciples and 2 masters, and the future looks promising, full of hope.
This chapter also gives us such sweet treats as the sweet deal between Zhou and Wen, Wen lovingly and carefully combs Zhou's hair, and puts a jade hairpin in it (something that even in my best expectations I wouldn't have imagined would happen when the series started, because Zhou hated Wen touching it and always avoided it).
At the end of the series we learn that that jade hairpin is actually the KEY TO THE ARMORY; that key was given to Wen by his father when he was a child. Wen always wore in his hair, unbeknownst to him, the reason why so many people were killing and betraying each other for 20 years.
The evolution of the main couple is beautifully constructed, it goes from Zhou's distrust, suspicion, secrets and disdain, to the nicest and most sincere words someone could say to the loved one.
It is Zhou who recognizes as his soulmate Wen, and tells him so on more than one occasion (which moves Wen to the point of dumbness, which is difficult because he is the kind of character who always has something to say).

Wen playing the flute all night to help his apprentice meditate (and the song he plays, the series makes clear, is one that cannot be played by someone who doesn't have a pure heart).
Gu Xiang's trousseau preparations for her wedding.
Zhang Cheng Ling revealing that he always kept a fragment of the "Crystal Armor" in his body, in a now-healed wound in his stomach, a wound his father gave him before he died, revealing that he is not the spoiled, squishy child everyone thought.
Ye Baiyi and Wen pulling Zhou's clothes in the middle of the night trying to figure out why he's so sick, and Zhou telling them straight up that it's a very inappropriate scene, making them embarrassed.
The fights and all the insults that Ye Baiyi and Wen Ke Xing are giving each other, because they can't stand each other.

This note rather than a review (it has no serious intentions of being one) is a very personal closing, something I needed to write to drain all the emotions that just now I have no one to share with (right now I'm in a very judgmental environment, I'm not in the mood to be insulted for talking about demons falling in love with humans or mentioning soulmate groups), but I do NEED to stress this:
~ This series grabs you quickly because of the performance of its cast, the cinematography direction, and its balanced script. It doesn't need scenes of extreme violence, nudity, or scenes of constant and explicit sexual abuse to keep the audience's attention (as it does with series like GOT, whose virality is due to feeding social morbidity) ~
This makes "Word of Honor" the perfect series for you if you are a sensitive and empathetic person, if you like photography, or learning about the culture and lifestyle of other countries, but above all, if you appreciate the beauty of the subtle... or if you just want to have a good time watching flying Chinese with long hair! ~
The series is currently available on Netflix, it has 35 episodes (plus an extra that is not on the platform's playlist) with pretty decent subtitles, although super censored (there are many edits in the dialogues).
There are many BTS (behind-the-scenes videos) quite engaging and funny; the OST can be obtained on YoutuTube (every song and track is a 10/10).
I still have yet to see the cast concert/farewell, but I'll wait a bit for that because I haven't finished watching the donghua of "A Thousand Autumns." I also want to read the original novel d(￣◇￣)b

In short, "Word of Honor" is a production full of love, effort, creativity, commitment, a lot of talent and dedication, which tells us about identity, building trust and how much our lives can change when we give ourselves with full sincerity and fidelity in a person, and this, in a blessed way, is reciprocal.

Hoy termine de ver “Palabra de Honor” (山河令, o “Shan He Ling”), un drama chino basado en la novela original BL (Boys Love), “Faraway Wanderers” (天涯 客) escrita por Priest, de género Wuxia.
Las producciones chinas siempre tienen finales agridulces, los protagonistas rara vez tienen un final feliz, porque en Asia, a diferencia de Latinoamérica (y buena parte de Occidente), aprecian y valoran más el camino y el desarrollo de la historia, antes que la conclusión.
Por eso me gustan tanto. Se toman su tiempo para construir las relación entre los personajes, todos tienen su lugar en el mundo, ningún personaje es demasiado pequeño o insignificante para que sus acciones no tengan efecto relevante en el desarrollo de los acontecimientos.
Es fácil encontrar un sin número de pequeñas bellezas y tesoros en los segundos más breves, en las escenas más cotidianas o en las interacciones más naturales (como cuando los personajes se sientan a compartir una comida o cepillan su cabello).
No es el primer drama Chino que veo, pero es el primero que me deja este dulce sabor en la boca; quiero ahogarme en fanarts y fanfictions de Zhou Zi Shu x Wen Ke Xing, y Gu Xiang x Cao Wei Ning ( ღ’ᴗ’ღ ) 💕

Mi sinopsis de la serie:
Hace 20 años, un héroe de las artes marciales creó “La Armería”, un edificio oculto lleno de textos místicos muy valiosos sobre técnicas de todo tipo de arte y estilo marcial, también, guarda 2 libros únicos en su tipo, uno es el “Libro del Yin y el Yang”, con conocimientos médicos capaces de curar cualquier enfermedad en el mundo, y el otro, el “Libro de los 6 Caminos”, con el secreto para adquirir la inmortalidad.
“La Armería” es codiciada por muchas personas, y está cerrada por seguridad para que su contenido no caiga en malas manos. Solo puede abrirse con una cerradura especial, dividida en 5 piezas, llamada la “Armadura de Cristal”, más una llave de la que nadie sabe su paradero.
Las 5 piezas de la “Armadura de Cristal” están cada una en manos de cada líder de las 5 sectas marciales pertenecientes a la “Alianza de los 5 Lagos”, héroes marciales que asesinaron al creador de la armería cuando se volvió malvado.
Zhou Zi Shu es el ex líder de “La Ventana del Cielo” (una secta dedicada a servir a la familia real de la época) que disfrazado de vagabundo deambula por el mundo después de muchas traiciones y un pasado lleno de asesinatos, culpa y arrepentimiento.
Wen Ke Xing es un misterioso hombre (aparentemente refinado y caballeroso) que se le aparece a Zhou en todos lados, lo salva más de una vez, y comienza a seguirlo. Se llama a si mismo "Filántropo".
A lo largo de su camino, ambos se ven involucrados en la guerra en las sombras que se está desarrollando entre las sectas y las conspiraciones que hay por conseguir la “Armadura de Cristal” y abrir “La Armería”: Encontrándose con el deber de ayudar al huérfano Zhang Cheng Ling, único superviviente de la masacre de su secta, a llegar a salvo con los hermanos de honor de su difunto padre.

“Palabra de Honor” aborda tópicos específicos que me emocionaron mucho, y serían las principales razones por las que la recomiendo altamente:
« TU ALMA GEMELA »
Encontrar a tu alma gemela representa el anhelo más imposible y precioso de volverse realidad. Maestros prodigiosos de las artes marciales dejan el mundo marcial, la fama y los títulos, cuando consiguen a su alma gemela, y ambos consiguen la razón del todo en compañía de esa otra persona especial.
Un poco avanzada la historia, aparece un grupo de 4 ancianos en una barca (3 hombres y 1 mujer) que me robaron el corazón con su historia.
~ Los llaman “Los 4 Sabios de An Xian” ~
Los primeros son Pei Feng (esposo) y Qiao Xing (esposa), ambos crecieron y se enamoraron en la misma secta, ambos son artistas marciales. Luego está el tercer miembro Du Yu Qian, que aunque no posee habilidades marciales, es un músico prodigioso, y finalmente He Yi Fan, con habilidad innata para las artes marciales, al que sus 3 amigos le ayudaron a salir de las calles, y de la vida de delincuente como bandido que era.
Estos 4 adorables personajes aparecen ya como ancianitos para asistir a la “Conferencia de Héroes” por invitación. Te explican que después de una vida de viajes, proezas y aventuras juntos, se retiraron a vivir en aislamiento en un bosque, lejos de todo, y que hace 15 años no salían al mundo.
~ Los definen como “un grupo con aspecto de inmortales celestiales” ~
Se suponía que después de asistir a esta conferencia, se retirarían del mundo para vivir felizmente sus últimos años de vida en el hogar que habían formado en el bosque, pero los 4 sabios son asaltados… 3 se ellos son asesinados, y 1 se suicida (ಥ﹏ಥ)
Pei Feng (el esposo) es herido de gravedad y muere en brazos de Qiao Xing (su esposa). He Yi Fan (el ex bandido) trata de defenderlos y es envenenado, pierde la cordura, y asesina a Qiao Xing antes de que lo maten.
Du Yu Qian (el músico), único superviviente, entre lágrimas y con el corazón roto, se suicida cortándose el cuello el mismo; antes de hacerlo, menciona que la vida no tiene sentido si ha perdido a sus almas gemelas.
El motivo de todo este desastre fueron las copias que creo Wen Ke Xing de una de las piezas de la “Armadura de Cristal”, para crear anarquía y locura entre las personas que codician la cerradura, para que se maten todos entre sí. Él nunca quiso hacer daño a personas inocentes, y lamenta dolorosamente la muerte de los sabios, a quienes veía como un precioso ideal.

« LA FAMILIA "NO CONVENCIONAL" »
Una constante en la serie es que te presentan figuras paternas y maternas (aunque no sean ni padres ni madres) adoptando niños en estado de abandono, esclavos, huérfanos de otras sectas o sobrinos como hijos propios.
La dinámica de la relación de Zhou Zi Shu y Wen Ke Xing para proteger y criar a Zhang Cheng Ling es inusitadamente fluida, incluso, aunque ambos se convierten en sus maestros, el cariño y trato que el chico les tiene es como a dos padre, incluso, Zhang Cheng Ling reconoce y menciona en voz alta más de una vez que de Zhou Zi Shu y Wen Ke Xing son almas gemelas, y lo dice con absoluto afecto y naturalidad (no hay cuestionamientos ni burlas ni prejuicios).
Claro, hay escenas donde a Wen Ke Xing le señalan como “la esposa”, pero lejos de molestarse, es un comentario bienvenido por todos, incluyendo el mismo, aunque no tenga conductas femeninas.
Ambos maestros se muestran como padres protectores, sabios, preocupados por la educación, el bienestar y el futuro de su discípulo, pero por sobre todo, son incondicionales y varias veces en la serie presenciamos que están dispuestos a sacrificar sus vidas por el bien del chico.
« EL ORGULLO Y LA DEVOCIÓN »
Felizmente, encontré en esta serie uno de los caracteres de personaje que más me gusta: El todopoderoso que se vuelve masita suave cuando se trata de su persona amada 💞
El humor coqueto y alegre de Wen Ke Xing hace que olvidemos que es un asesino muy peligroso, que es líder de un valle lleno de demonios, fantasmas y quien sabe qué otro tipo de criaturas malvadas.
Sin embargo, desde el momento en que conoce a Zhou, decir que es amable es quedarse súper corto. Wen es descaradamente coqueto, condescendiente y ansioso por la atención de Zhou.
Apenas comienza la serie vemos como persigue a Zhou y se le aparece en todos lados, apareciéndole en el camino, las orillas de un lado, un bosque, Wen siempre “aparece casualmente” ofreciendo todo lo que Zhou puede necesitar en su viaje.
Si hace calor, aparece con una mesa de té al lado del camino, delante de Zhou, al que invita inmediatamente a sentarse. Si es de noche, le ofrece comida y cómodo refugio (¡en un barco muy elegante con servidumbre para atenderlos!) (ʘᗩʘ’)
De las mejores escenas de este tipo, es cuando Zhou y su discípulo llegan a un pueblo y están exhaustos, necesitan descansar, pero solo hay una posada. El dependiente le dice que no puede darle ninguna habitación porque toda la posada fue reservada por “un lord”.
Adivinen quien alquilo toda la posada.

Al final Zhou acepta, y le cierra la puerta en las narices a Wen, echándolo afuera, quien no se molesta y parece feliz, a pesar de que no consiguió ni siquiera una conversación decente con el motivo de sus atenciones.
Incluso su sirvienta Gu Xiang menciona que le gusta cuando está al lado “del enfermo” (Zhou parece padecer una enfermedad terminal) porque su amo parece “más humano”.

« EL AMOR »
A diferencia de lo que acostumbramos en occidente, las representaciones de amor en los dramas chinos no saltan a abordar temas sexuales o sugerentes, ni siempre se trata de llegar al cometido de ver a los protagonistas juntos, casados, con familia. O no al principio. No directamente.
El amor tiene una razón, y el sentimiento se construye con experiencias compartidas, valor, sacrificio y confianza, no suposiciones ni idealizaciones. El amor no es perfecto desde el inicio y no nace de la nada solo porque es bonito y feliz.
« LOS PADRES Y LOS HIJOS / FIDELIDAD Y TRAICIÓN »
En “Palabra de Honor” hay muchas tragedias en cada familia y cada secta, hay traiciones, asesinatos, conspiraciones, muchas familias rotas, padres torturados e hijos en indefensión.
Pero lo que quiero destacar aquí es que te presentan relaciones complejas donde el “personaje más malo” puede ser auténticamente el hijo más devoto, amoroso, servicial e incondicional, aunque no haya recibido autentico amor ni reconocimiento de esa persona.
Es un niño adoptado y criado en las sombras, sin reconocimiento por Zhao Jing, a quien adora y le es incondicional de manera ciega.
A medida que pasan los capítulos nos enteramos que Zhao Jing no ama realmente a nadie y El Rey Escorpión (Príncipe Xie) lo sabe, sabe que le está mintiendo, sabe que lo va a traicionar, sabe que le promete su cabeza al líder de la "Secta Espada Gentil", y aún así, el pobre Rey Escorpión continuamente le da muchas oportunidades a su padre para demostrarle que significa algo más para el que una herramienta.
Al final, y contra toda suposición, El Rey Escorpión hace un arreglo con los héroes de la historia, para que en el momento en que desenmascaren a su padre (Zhao Jing) y lo derroten, no lo asesinen.
El Príncipe Xie dice que a pesar de todo, es su padre, y que como familia solo se tienen el uno al otro, y que cuidara del (que por cierto, el hombre queda mudo y parapléjico, como un muñeco).
Wei Ke Xing, después del asesinato de sus padres frente a sus ojos, es secuestrado siendo niño y crece en el “Valle de los Fantasmas” (lugar inhóspito donde rige la ley del más fuerte). Crece siendo maltratado y luchando por su supervivencia. De adulto, arma una revuelta, asesina al actual Rey del “Valle de Fantasmas”, y se vuelve su líder, al comando de un ejército de más de 3.000 seres sobrenaturales.
Y siendo tan poderoso y “malvado”, todo lo que hace, lo hace en memoria de sus amados padres, para vengar la masacre de su secta (“El Valle Medico Inmortal”), que era pacífica y llena de médicos con conocimientos valiosos que ayudaron desinteresadamente a miles de personas. Su hogar, el “Valle de los Sanadores”, tuvo un destino muy triste.

« INMORTALIDAD: LA UNIÓN DEL HOMBRE Y LA NATURALEZA »
Uno de los libros más importantes en “La Armería” te enseña a alcanzar la supuesta inmortalidad, la unión del hombre y la naturaleza. “El Libro de los 6 Caminos”.
Al final de la serie, nos enteramos que esta inmortalidad es relativa. Relativa porque está condicionada a que la persona que consiga dominar estos conocimientos y completar una serie de ritos exitosamente, deberá vivir en un lugar muy frio, y alimentarse de solo agua y hielo, porque la comida secular te envejece.
Esto explica por qué Ye Baiyi (“Espada Inmortal de la Montaña Chang Ming”) come muchísimo, y con tanto deleite. Después de 100 años de inmortalidad y de solo comer hielo y agua, aislado en una montaña gélida, se dio cuenta que estaba muerto en vida, y que sería buena idea pasearse por el mundo mortal un tiempo （´▽`)

« LAS ACTUACIONES »
En primer lugar debo nombrar al actor Gong Jun (el súper guapo Wei Ke Xing), su registro facial, sus expresiones, las emociones que transmite y su porte son simplemente… te quitan el aliento. Su personaje es difícil de interpretar porque constantemente finge tener más de una personalidad (o simplemente… está loco).
Luego está el Príncipe Xie, el Rey Escorpión, desde la primera vez que apareció es fascinante. El actor se esforzó mucho en su interpretación, y creo es la que se siente mas natural de todas... y también es jodidamente guapo.
Cao Wei Ning, que es la personificación del cinnamon roll por excelencia (no sé si el brillo en sus ojos fue puesto de forma digital o con lentes de contacto, pero te recuerda a un golden retriever… llore mucho cuando su maestro Zhou Zi lo asesino rompiéndole el cuello el día de su boda, frente a su prometida, Qin Jiu Xiao.).
Fantasma Bo Qing Bu Zhu (muy digna, muy regia, muy todo, la amo), y por supuesto Ye Baiyi porque él sabe que es el más badass entre todos estos mortales pretenciosos y niñatos.
« EL VESTUARIO »
El vestuario creo es uno de los puntos más fuertes de la producción (junto a las locaciones), cada conjunto es armonioso y representativo del carácter de cada personaje, las paletas de colores están muy bien escogidas, hay mucho cuidado también en el peinado y maquillaje de todos los actores. No veras una pieza de ropa fuera de lugar o sin meticuloso planchado/almidonado en esta serie.
El Director de Vestuario hizo un gran trabajo en la selección de textiles y bordados, hay trabajos exquisitamente finos, sobre todo en los últimos capítulos (donde el corte de los trajes y sus colores tienen significados que hacen mas rica la trama).
Quien se lleva el premio al mejor vestido es, sin lugar a dudas, Wei Ke Xing, sus conjuntos son absurdamente guapos y a la medida. Ese hombre siempre esta vestido y mejor pulido que taza de porcelana.

En este capítulo, Zhou Zi Shu ha sido secuestrado y es torturado, tuvo que salir de “La Mansión de las 4 Estaciones” (su viejo/nuevo hogar) y entregarse voluntariamente para proteger a su discípulo, y a Wen Ke Xing, que agotó toda su energía vital tratando de mantener con vida al (supuestamente) ultimo subordinado con vida que le juro lealtad a Zhau cuando era líder de “La Ventana del Cielo”.
Entonces aparece este grupo de jóvenes desconocidos que saca furtivamente a Zhou de la cárcel, lo meten en un pequeño carruaje y huyen por sus vidas, pero son interceptados por sus captores, y parece que todos serán asesinados.
Se menciona abiertamente que Wei Ke Xing es líder del “Valle de Fantasmas”, y este lo admite, mientras un ejército de fantasmas bajo sus órdenes aparece y hacen huir a los malos.
Nos enteramos que los 18 chicos que rescataron a Zhou son niños criados por el último amigo superviviente que tenía Zhou, que murió en brazos de Wei, al que le encomendó protegerlos y aceptarlos como discípulos.
Ahora “La Mansión de las 4 Estaciones”, antes en ruinas y desierta, tiene 19 discípulos y 2 maestros, y el futuro se ve prometedor, lleno de esperanza.
Este capítulo también nos da caramelitos como el dulce trato entre Zhou y Wen, Wen peina amorosamente y con cuidado el cabello de Zhou, y le coloca una horquilla de jade (cosa que ni en mis mejores expectativas habría imaginado pasaría cuando empezó la serie, porque Zhou detestaba que Wen lo tocara y siempre lo evitaba).
Al final de las serie nos enteramos que esa horquilla de jade es el realidad la LLAVE DE LA ARMERÍA; esa llave se la entregó su padre a Wen cuando era niño. Wen siempre llevo en el cabello, sin saberlo, la razón por la que tantas personas se mataban y traicionaban entre si desde hace 20 años.
La evolución de la pareja principal esta bellamente construida, pasa de la desconfianza, el recelo, los secretos y el desdén de Zhou, a las palabras más bonitas y sinceras que alguien podría decirle al ser amado.
Es Zhou el que reconoce como su alma gemela a Wen, y se lo dice en más de una ocasión (lo que conmueve a Wen hasta dejarlo mudo, cosa difícil porque es el tipo de personaje que siempre tiene algo que decir).

Wen tocando la flauta toda la noche para ayudar a su discípulo a meditar (y la canción que toca, aclara la serie, es una que no puede ser interpretada por alguien que no tenga un corazón puro).

Zhang Cheng Ling revelando que siempre guardo un fragmento de la “Armadura de Cristal" en su cuerpo, en una herida cicatrizada ya en el estómago, herida que le hizo su padre antes de morir, revelando que no es el niño mimado y blandengue que todos creían.
Ye Baiyi y Wen jaloneándole la ropa a Zhou en medio de la noche tratando de descubrir por qué esta tan enfermo, y Zhou diciéndoles de frente que es una escena muy inapropiada, haciéndolos avergonzar.
Las pelas y todos los insultos que se dedican Ye Baiyi y Wen Ke Xing, porque no se soportan.

Esta nota más que una review (no tiene serias intenciones de serlo) es un cierre muy personal, algo que necesitaba escribir para drenar todas las emociones que justo ahora no tengo con quien compartir (en estos momentos estoy en un entorno muy prejuicioso, no estoy de ánimo para que me insulten por hablar de demonios enamorándose de humanos o por mencionar grupos de almas gemelas), pero sí NECESITO recalcar esto:
~ Esta serie te atrapa rápidamente por el desempeño de su elenco, la dirección de fotografía, y su guion equilibrado. No necesita escenas de extrema violencia, desnudos, ni escenas de abuso sexual constante y explicito para mantener la atención del público (como sí sucede con series como GOT, cuya viralidad se lo debe a alimentar el morbo social) ~
Esto hace que “Palabra de Honor” sea la serie perfecta para ti si eres una persona sensible y empática, si te gusta la fotografía, o aprender de la cultura y estilo de vida de otros países, pero por sobre todo, si aprecias la belleza de lo sutil... ¡o si solo quieres pasar un buen rato viendo chinos voladores de pelo largo! ~
La serie actualmente está disponible en Netflix, cuenta con 35 capítulos (más un extra que no está en la playlist de la plataforma) con un subtitulado bastante decente, aunque súper censurado (hay muchas ediciones en los diálogos).
Hay muchos BTS (videos detrás de cámaras) bastante atractivos y divertidos; la OST puede conseguirse en YoutuTube (cada canción y tema es un 10/10).
Todavía me falta ver el concierto/despedida del elenco, pero esperare un poco para eso porque no he terminado de ver el donghua de “Mil Otoños”. También quiero leer la novela original d(￣◇￣)b
