Estoy muy contenta con poder mirar de nuevo las series con las que crecí, siendo que en esos años era algo complicado ver todas las temporadas por televisión y mucho más de comprenderlas (siendo que era una niña). Ya de adulta, con un raciocinio definido, es interesante encontrarse con esas series de televisión y hallarse con verdaderas joyas que en el presente, ya no se producen. Ese es el caso de Daria, una serie televisiva ácida que le ofrece al espectador la oportunidad de ver más allá de un criterio conformista.

I am very happy to be able to watch the series I grew up with again, being that in those years it was somewhat difficult to see all the seasons on television and much more to understand them (being that I was a girl). As an adult, with a defined reasoning, it is interesting to meet those television series and find true gems that are no longer produced at present. That is the case with ** Daria **, an acid television series that offers the viewer the opportunity to see beyond a conformist criterion.
La serie se basa en la vida de la adolescente Daria Morgendorffer, una chica fuera de lo común, inteligente, crítica, apática, pesimista y cínica, la cual en ocasiones raya en lo antisocial. Ella vive con sus padres y con su hermana menor Quinn, la cual es todo lo puesto a Daria; es extrovertida, popular y de mentalidad vacía. Daria debe soportar el ser comparada constantemente con su hermana, dado que sus padres son las típicas personas que debido a sus trabajos, conocen superficialmente a sus hijos, esperando sólo de ellos que logren encajar en la sociedad y que aspiren a la grandeza. Pero Daria no quieres nada de eso, ella no quiere lo que los demás quieren, de hecho, no aspira a nada dado que su sentido analítico en ocasiones suele ser tan excesivo, que ve como una perdida de tiempo el esforzarse por las cosas en una sociedad en la cual lo único que importa es la apariencia.
The series is based on the life of the adolescent ** Daria Morgendorffer **, an unusual, intelligent, critical, apathetic, pessimistic and cynical girl, who at times borders on the antisocial. She lives with her parents and with her younger sister Quinn, who is everything Daria has given her; She is outgoing, popular, and empty-minded. Daria must endure being constantly compared to her sister, since her parents are the typical people who, due to their jobs, superficially know their children, expecting only from them that they will fit into society and aspire to greatness. But Daria you do not want any of that, she does not want what others want, in fact, she does not aspire to anything since her analytical sense is sometimes so excessive, that she sees as a waste of time to strive for things in a society in which the only thing that matters is appearance.
Daria está acostumbrada a estar sola. Al nadie entender su manera de pensar, las demás personas suelen verla como un bicho raro y tienden a desplazarla. Por eso, cuando se muda de ciudad y en su nueva escuela conoce a Jane Lane, Daria se da cuenta de que por fin ha encontrado a alguien a la que puede considerar una amiga. Jane comparte con Daria su sentido crítico del mundo y la acepta tal y como es. Una artista en todo el sentido de la palabra, con un talento excepcional para las pinturas y cualquier obra plástica con la que pueda expresarse. Aunque suele responder a todo con ironía y sarcasmo, es mucho más positiva que su amiga y se toma la vida mucho más relajada.
Daria is used to being alone. As no one understands her way of thinking, other people tend to see her as a freak and tend to displace her. So when she moves to another city and meets ** Jane Lane ** at her new school, Daria realizes that she has finally found someone she can consider a friend. Jane shares with Daria her critical sense of the world and accepts her for who she is. An artist in every sense of the word, with an exceptional talent for paintings and any plastic work with which she can express herself. Although she usually responds to everything with irony and sarcasm, she is much more positive than her friend and takes life much more relaxed.
Es gracias a Jane que Daria empieza a vivir las experiencias de relacionarse con otras personas (dado que antes de conocerla, esquivaba todo encerrándose en su coraza). En varias ocasiones a lo largo de la serie, las chicas no comparten el mismo punto de vista y su amistad tiende a tambalearse, es en esos momentos en los que Daria se ve obligada a salir de su zona de cinismo, todo con tal de no perder a su amiga. La falta de tacto de Daria al comienzo se muestra como una daga que atraviesa a su paso a cualquiera que ose acercarse, pero, con el pasar de los episodios, vamos viendo que muchas veces Daria responde de manera critica como un mecanismo de autodefensa. Al fin y al cabo, se trata de una adolescente que trata de encontrar su lugar en el mundo, creando lo que serían sus ideales, sólo que siendo sincera con respecto a sus pensamientos y creencias. No es una persona fácil de tratar, pero tampoco es inaccesible. Es por esa razón que la amistad entre Daria y Jane permanece y se va consolidando con el pasar del tiempo.
It is thanks to Jane that Daria begins to live the experiences of relating to other people (since before meeting her, she avoided everything by shutting herself up in her shell). On several occasions throughout the series, the girls do not share the same point of view and their friendship tends to falter, it is in those moments in which Daria is forced to leave her zone of cynicism, all as long as she does not lose your friend. Daria's lack of tact at the beginning is shown as a dagger that pierces anyone who dares to approach, but, as the episodes go by, we see that many times Daria responds in a critical way as a self-defense mechanism. After all, this is a teenager trying to find her place in the world, creating what would be her ideals, only being honest about her thoughts and beliefs. He is not an easy person to get along with, but he is not unapproachable either. It is for this reason that the friendship between Daria and Jane remains and is consolidated over time.
Como es natural, las chicas tienen que convivir con sus compañeros de instituto y tolerarlos. Existe una variada gama de personajes con personalidades estereotipadas, sobre los cuales Daria y Jane sobresalen, siendo ellas las chicas raras. Pero son esos personajes los que te permiten hacer esa comparativa entre lo que es real y lo que simplemente trata de serlo, siendo que la sociedad es un teatro de títeres y nosotras somos las marionetas.
Of course, girls have to live with their high school mates and tolerate them. There is a varied range of characters with stereotypical personalities, over which Daria and Jane excel, being they the rare girls. But it is those characters that allow you to make that comparison between what is real and what simply tries to be, since society is a puppet theater and we are the puppets.
Sin duda es una serie interesante, con un humor perspicaz que señala al funcionamiento decadente de una sociedad conformista. No es difícil sentirse identificado con la protagonista, siendo que la mayoría del tiempo, su criterio no es más que la verdad simplemente dicha, sin adornos. Pero como sabemos, a nadie le gusta escuchar la verdad. El tema introductorio es You're Standing on My Neck de Splendora, mientras que en el outro y a lo lardo de la serie, a modo de banda sonora, se pueden apreciar canciones de la época, como temas de Daftpunk y Moby. Otra cosa genial del outro, es el despliegue de imágenes de los personajes de la serie, vestidos con diferentes trajes icónicos de peliculas y otras referencias.
It's certainly an interesting series, with insightful humor that points to the decaying workings of a conformist society. It is not difficult to feel identified with the protagonist, since most of the time, her criteria is nothing more than the truth simply told, without adornment. But as we know, nobody likes to hear the truth. The introductory theme is ** You're Standing on My Neck ** by ** Splendora **, while in the outro and throughout the series, as a soundtrack, you can see songs of the time, as themes Daftpunk and Moby. Another great thing about the outro is the display of images of the characters of the series, dressed in different iconic costumes from movies and other references.
