¡Hola, queridos Hivers! En este post les traigo la reseña de una película que vi ayer y que toca el alma: Vivo. Tiene un aire a Coco, el film que hizo llorar a más de uno, pero con una trama y país de origen totalmente diferentes. Podemos pensar que es dirigida 100% a niños, pero es un concepto muy equivocado, ya que es apto para todo público y seguramente los adolescentes y adultos podrán disfrutar lo mejor de la película: el soundtrack.
Hello dear Hivers! In this post I bring you the review of a movie that I saw yesterday and that touches the soul: Vivo. It has an air of Coco, the film that made more than one cry, but with a totally different plot and country of origin. We can think that it is directed 100% to children, but it is a very wrong concept, since it is suitable for all audiences and surely adolescents and adults will be able to enjoy the best of the film: the soundtrack.

De la mano del director Kirk DeMicco, llegó la película animada de aventura Vivo a la plataforma de streaming Netflix a mediados del 2021. El famoso compositor (aunque yo no sabía quién era) Lin-Manuel Miranda prestó su voz para el protagonista Vivo, un kinkajú (mamífero carnívoro pariente de mapaches) que desde pequeño fue rescatado y criado por Andrés, cuya voz pertenece a Juan De Marcos, un cubano amante de la música y muy bueno en el canto y con diversos instrumentos musicales. Este grupo inseparable baja todos los días a la plaza de La Habana a tocar su música y recoger dinero, hasta que un día una carta le llegó a Andrés con dirección de Miami, Florida.
From the hand of director Kirk DeMicco, the animated adventure film Vivo arrived on the Netflix streaming platform in mid-2021. The famous composer (although I did not know who he was) Lin-Manuel Miranda lent his voice for the protagonist Vivo, a kinkajú (a carnivorous mammal related to raccoons) that since childhood was rescued and raised by Andrés, whose voice belongs to Juan De Marcos, a Cuban music lover and very good at singing and playing various musical instruments. This inseparable group goes down to the Plaza de La Habana every day to play their music and collect money, until one day a letter reached Andrés with the address of Miami, Florida.

En la historia, resaltará un personaje especial, Gabi. Una niña un tanto peculiar que siente que no encaja en los grupos donde su mamá quiere que esté, y que siente un amor incondicional hacia la música por encima de todo. Como ella dice, "la música corre por sus venas", ya que es sobrina-nieta de Andrés. Su voz le pertenece a Ynairaly Simo. Además, tenemos a un personaje que a pesar de que sale en pocas ocasiones, tiene un peso bastante grande en la trama: Marta (cuya voz es de Gloria Estefan). Una cubana quien fue pareja musical de Andrés y quien cumplió su sueño de salir de Cuba y volverse una artista muy famosa y reconocida mundialmente.
In the story, a special character, Gabi, will stand out. A somewhat peculiar girl who feels that she does not fit into the groups where her mother wants her to be, and who feels an unconditional love for music above all else. As she says, "music runs through her veins", since she is Andrés' great-niece. His voice belongs to Ynairaly Simo. In addition, we have a character who, although she appears on a few occasions, has a fairly large weight in the plot: Marta (whose voice is Gloria Estefan). A Cuban who was Andrés' musical partner and who fulfilled her dream of leaving Cuba and becoming a very famous and world-renowned artist.

🗣 Opiniones/Opinions 🗣
En esta ocasión, dejaré mi opinión sobre lo que más me gustó para el final. La animación fue responsabilidad de Columbia Pictures y Sony Pictures Animation, e hicieron un trabajo impresionante. La animación es muy bonita, todo se ve muy bien y hay partes donde se cambia el tipo de animación y le da otra dimensión a lo qu está pasando en ese momento, es un recurso muy bien utilizado. En cuanto a los personajes, todos están muy bien construidos, con una historia detrás que los hicieron llegar a donde están ahora, y poco a poco nos van soltando recuerdos que nos ayudan a entender un poco más la personalidad y actitud de los protagonistas.
On this occasion, I will leave my opinion on what I liked the most for last. Animation was the responsibility of Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation, and they did an impressive job. The animation is very beautiful, everything looks very good and there are parts where the type of animation is changed and gives another dimension to what is happening at that moment, it is a very well used resource. As for the characters, they are all very well built, with a story behind that made them get to where they are now, and little by little they are releasing memories that help us understand a little more the personality and attitude of the protagonists.

La historia es suficiente y bien sustentada para un musical de aventura: Andrés debe emprender un viaje con Vivo desde La Habana a Miami para asistir al último show de Marta. En el viaje, la historia da unos giros predecibles que le quitan un poco el factor sorpresa, pero no deja de ser una historia sólida (y cliché). El recurso de tener a Cuba como locación principal no lo explotan tanto como me hubiese gustado: ligar más la historia con las raíces cubanas de los protagonistas (solo lo hicieron en cuanto al ritmo musical elegido para la banda sonora), ni hicieron relaciones muy profundas con otros personajes compatriotas de Andrés.
The story is sufficient and well supported for an adventure musical: Andrés must make a trip with Vivo from Havana to Miami to attend Marta's last show. Along the way, the story takes some predictable twists that take away the wow factor a bit, but it's still a solid (and cliché) story. The resource of having Cuba as the main location is not exploited as much as I would have liked: linking the story more with the Cuban roots of the protagonists (they only did it in terms of the musical rhythm chosen for the soundtrack), nor did they make very deep relationships with other compatriots of Andrés.

Ahora vamos a lo grueso y lo que realmente destaca de la película. La banda sonora fue creada por el mismo artista que le dio voz a Vivo, Lin-Manuel Miranda. El soundtrack es una delicia, con canciones bastante movidas y buenas, con ritmos pegajosos y fáciles de aprender que cuando menos te des cuenta, estás tarareando o moviendo la cabeza al ritmo del compás. Muchas críticas que leí, decían estar conformes con la banda sonora pero que quizás esperaban un poco más de Miranda, pero sin duda concluían que era el aspecto más fuerte de la película.
Now let's get down to the thick of it and what really stands out from the movie. The soundtrack was created by the same artist who voiced Vivo, Lin-Manuel Miranda. The soundtrack is a delight, with quite lively and good songs, with catchy and easy-to-learn rhythms that when you least realize it, you're humming or shaking your head to the beat of the beat. Many reviews that I read said they were happy with the soundtrack but maybe they expected a little more from Miranda, but without a doubt they concluded that it was the strongest aspect of the film.

🗣 Comentarios finales/Final comments 🗣
La película, en términos generales, es buena. Entretiene tanto a niños como a adultos, presenta una historia bonita y tiene un final feliz, lo que todos esperamos de películas animadas con musicales incluidos. La animación es buena y los personajes son divertidos, así que tiene un toque de comedia que le sienta bien para alivianar la historia. En más de una escena me vi fuertemente conmovido por los acontecimientos, así que si son blanditos de corazón, puede que necesiten un pañuelo o servilleta para secar una que otra lágrima que pueda brotarles involuntariamente.
The movie, in general terms, is good. It entertains both children and adults, presents a beautiful story and has a happy ending, which we all expect from animated movies with musicals included. The animation is good and the characters are hilarious, so it has a touch of comedy that goes well with it to lighten the story. In more than one scene I was strongly moved by the events, so if they are soft at heart, you may need a napkin to wipe away the occasional tears that may unintentionally come out.

Vivo también nos deja un par de mensajes muy alentadores y bonitos: el amor incondicional, el sacrificio y la importancia de las segundas oportunidades. Les recomiendo que la vean, es muy bonita y entretenida.
