Disclaimer: Although most of my comments refer to the third season of Arrested Development - a consequence of my recent viewing - they do not have any specific spoilers and could well be extended to the entire series.

If there is a particular genre that I am passionate about when it comes to television series, it is comedy, and it is that although it is often looked down upon by general critics and considered inferior to deep dramas, few series challenge both the conventions of modern storytelling as well as a good comedy.

Examples are not exactly scarce: The office, parks and recreation, Brooklyn Nine Nine, Silicon Valley or more traditional products such as Seinfeld or Two And a Half, if they have reached the Olympus of the great series it is not because they are extremely entertaining, but because they know how to execute their ideas very well.

One of the crucial factors for any work to work is rhythm, good comedy must ALWAYS know how to use this resource.

I extend a bit explaining all this because few series manage to handle the idea of having a "rhythm" so well, like Arrested Development, a series that until a few years ago was little appreciated and progressively acquired a cult of followers -Very well deserved, by the way-.

To talk about Arrested Development is to talk about great actors, extremely recognizable faces today: Michael Cera, Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Jessica Walter and the brilliant David Cross, all delivering a brutal performance in what has been one of the best-written series in all history.

Today, after a marathon in its third season, I would like to explain quite briefly why I have nothing but praise for Arrested Development.

While the entire series is pretty decent (Even the fourth and fifth seasons, which are a bit disastrous), the third part of Arrested Development has managed to marinate its entire cast of characters to perfection and takes them to my favorite moment of their arcs. narratives.

Not only this, but it adds several of the best gags of the entire series and knows how to embrace its chaotic nature with extreme comfort (something that was lacking in the first and second seasons), full of callbacks and foreshadowing, if a series like The office It's Chinese checkers, talking about Arrested Development is three-dimensional chess.

Its unbridled rhythm and its lack of intentions to take us by the hand between joke and joke are what create this unique and dense style, a style that deserves more than one viewing to correctly absorb everything that they are showing.

Not only is it a great series in isolation, but It created a whole creative school inspired by it, and its influence continues to be seen today.

For me next to giants like The Sopranos or Breaking Bad Arrested Development can sit without any problem and its third season is a perfect example of that. This is why I consider it one of the best television seasons that have ever existed.
