The Mummy de 1999 es una aventura egipcia que trae a nosotros esos recuerdos de uno de los tipos de monstruos mas respetados en los ayeres del mundo en el cine que son las momias, es uno de mis tipos de seres favoritos porque envuelven maldiciones, resucitación y lo mejor es la Arqueología tras de ellos porque esta escrito en la historia que la definición de Momia relaciona la Muerte con la Vida Eterna.
Esto es lo que mas rescato del film porque ya en la actualidad estos tipos de monstruos no impactan a las nuevas generaciones que considero son muy voraces al consumir una historia exagerando en las exigencias de acción y dejando de lado la extraordinaria mitología detrás de estos seres.
Si es verdad que en esta aventura iremos a Egipto a disfrutar de esa maravillosa cultura que en el planeta es de las más conocidas y aunque las momias son mas conocidas por esta civilización, el concepto aplica a muchos otros lugares del mundo y civilizaciones ya sea en América, Asia, etc y como se estas cosas, porque fims como este en aquellos tiempos motivan a investigar con el pasar de los años porque queda la curiosidad de saber mas.

Falta mucho esto en la generación actual, curiosidad por el saber y aunque el film pesa mas la acción y el entretenimiento, el personaje de Evelyn Carnahan interpretado por Rachel Weisz representa esa admiración por el conocimiento, por el saber, el estudio de una civilización de las mas ricas en cultura que es la Egipcia, ella es Bibliotecaria y solo ver el precioso brillo de sus ojos me hace entrar en historia y quedarme en ella hasta el final.
La acción que maneja por parte del personaje Rick O´connell cumple a la vez que le da un toque cómico bien dosificado, no es exagerado hasta lo vomitivo como en muchos films de la actualidad, su fórmula en este aspecto esta bien equilibrada con el personaje Beni Gabor que ofrecerá muchos momentos cómicos que aligeran el film para el entretenimiento de una audiencia mas general.
Los anteriores personajes se llevan gratamente mi atención pero evaluando el film objetivamente, lo que mas impacta es la puesta en escena inicial de la relación entre el Sacerdote Imhotep y Anck-su-namun, la belleza de Patricia Velásquez junto con el maquillaje egipcio sobre una preciosa mujer me resulto de lo mas exquisito que he visto.
Algo muy importante es que los egipcios transmitían mucho con sus maquillajes e inclusive esclavos en aquellas épocas, papiros indican que hacían huelgas si no les daban maquillaje porque no solo era estética, servía de protección solar, estos son detalles que el film en el aspecto maquillaje pesa enormemente porque es lo que sienta las bases de la historia a disfrutar y es una escena muy satisfactoria, la pasión y exaltación que se viven son enormes.

Considero no es necesario cuando tienes una buena base pasional y ciertos destellos de venganza, con base a esto el film se merece 7.5 chiquitos de 10 porque cumple con ser muy entretenida, nombras aspectos antiguos reales pero no avanza mas allá y esta bien porque es un film que se puede disfrutar en familia a la vez que despierta curiosidad en niños sobre el mundo antiguo y las momias.

Lo mejor del film es su inicio, Patricia Velásquez con el mejor look de su vida, la recuerdo muy bien mas la trama pasional que siempre domina sobre el ser humano, somos esclavos de la carne así estemos en el mejor momento de nuestras vidas, podemos arruinarlo todo por el placer de la carne y eso sucede.
Añado a lo anterior la presentación y muerte de Imhotep con escarabajos carnívoros que pienso son representado demasiado voraces en el film pero la idea del guion y director es impresionar y de hecho lo logra porque un solo escarabajo es inofensivo pero cien ya no y son bastante agresivos, los recuerdo muy bien y pienso que son muy influyentes en el éxito del film.
Un detalle a destacar son los efectos especiales que fueron desarrollados pero no es colocarlos por hacerlo y ya, no, tienen su momento justo que es cuando Imhotep ataca con arena al protagonista, de lo mejor en aquella época y al menos a mi me impresiono bastante, cuando recuerdo el film, viene a mi aquel momento, aunado a lo anterior es el modo en que las momias abrían la boca.
Es una historia de protagonistas, héroes, etc y esto es lo malo de las historias de momias a nivel general, en el mismo film se burlan de ellas y si es gracioso pero en mi corazoncito pienso no solo son cadáveres putrefactos fáciles de vencer, su mayor poder es la magia o maldición detrás de ellos y aunque eso esta presente con Imhotep de manera aplastante devorando órganos, lengua, ojos de otros aventureros que caen en la maldición de la momia, el resto esta solo para impresionar y morir de maneras graciosas y eso si entretiene a un publico general pero a mi no me agrada mucho.
