There is a special type of exhilaration I feel when I see movies about deductions and solving mind-boggling cases. Films like Sherlock Holmes will always have a special place in my heart. And another film like this is the 2019 film, Knives Out, the prequel to the recently released film, Glass Onion.
Knives Out was suggested by a cousin of mine back in 2020. And in his words, "Knives Out is insane." When he said that to me, I felt the inclination to trust him, as we seem to like similar types of films. And when I had finished the film, I was stunned—it was a classic film in my book.
The sequel to Knives Out, Glass Onion, was announced, and I couldn't wait to see it. And, like its predecessor, it topped the charts even in its first week in theaters. I became all the more excited because I believed in the hype. But I could not get to a cinema, so I waited for its release on streaming services.
I didn't hesitate to get the film downloaded the moment I heard about its release, and I cleared some of my schedule just to see it early enough. And for the same reasons I loved the first film, I loved this one, but we'll get to that in a jiffy. Let's talk about the film a little for context.
The COVID-19 pandemic in May 2020 prompts Miles Bron, the billionaire co-founder of the Manhattan technology company Alpha, to host a murder mystery weekend at his mansion on a private island in Greece. He invites five of his friends over, as well as the renowned detective Benoit Blanc.
Upon arrival, they all get together to catch up on each other's lives, as it had been about a year since they last met, and it was for the same reason every year: to solve a made-up case by the genius Miles Bron, except for Beniot, as this is his first time.
Apparently, Beniot Blanc's presence was unexpected, even by Miles himself, and this disturbed the atmosphere from what Miles Bron had envisaged. But Beniot's presence seems to be the key to the underlying truth of everyone's motives and intentions, especially for Miles.
Underneath the facade everyone was putting up were shady acts that were all intricately linked and heavily impacted an actual murder case that had been kept in the dark. Beniot Blanc was here for that, but what he found was far beyond what he had envisaged and was mind-boggling. What should have been a fun weekend becomes a book of revelations.
It had been so long since the release of Knives Out that I had completely forgotten about the sequel. And when I finally got around to watching it, I was hooked just a few minutes in.
With my experience with "Knives Out," I had expected a series of fascinating unveilings that I would find intriguing. I had forgotten exactly how I felt for most of the sequel, but Glass Onion reminded me of all that as I watched.
Glass Onion is about a film that is about a story that should be simple but, with the introduction of the detective, turns into a really complicated story as deductions are made from matters that are seemingly above suspicion. It depicts how there is always more to a situation than meets the eye. But it is hyped not only for its story but for many other elements that were clearly carefully thought of and executed.
When the show first started, I was a little confused about the characters I was seeing because only one of them looked familiar: the main character, Beniot Blanc. And I felt there should have been a sort of prelude to show how these new characters had come to be.
However, I had been treating the film like a direct continuation of its prequel, Knives Out. And since the characters were much different from what I had seen before, I began to feel like I should be lost, but I wasn't.
Glass Onion started and progressed just as though it were a new film, which it actually was except for the fact that the main character is the reason why I was pumped about the film. However, first-time viewers of that character did not require all of that information to fully enjoy the film.
I was relieved to see that the film had a run time of about 2 hours and 19 minutes when I first started watching it. I knew that I was in for a treat, and I needed not to worry about everything happening too fast. I thought there should be just enough time to unwrap everything with style.
Ideally, deduction-themed films may take time to develop—you know, putting the pieces together. And rather than having the audience feel overstretched a bit in the course of telling the story, they infused it all with intricately important nuances to allow for more entertainment and keep them going.
For one thing, there are many instances when humor comes into play. It could be in their conversation—something strange said by one of the characters at some point or Daniel Craig (Beniot Blanc) being salvageably sarcastic to another character. I especially loved when these happened.
The most intriguing aspect of this film is how one might expect the explanation to a particular incident to be what they expected, but it turns out to be something they did not expect.And sometimes, they'd be less technical than expected. I loved this as I wasn't able to predict the film entirely, leaving that much room for enjoyment.
Every detail of the story was carefully thought out, as every single one of them was important for solving the puzzles. And when you think it's all over, it picks up all over again with full force. When everything unravels, one may be left thinking, "Oh, so that's what this meant?"
When there's a lot of money invested in a film, there are more chances that it actually turns out well. However, some films managed to defy that and are still terrible nonetheless. On the contrary, Glass Onion not only shows that a lot of money went into it but also that a lot of thoughts and efforts were lavished on it.
And just like I said earlier about getting engrossed right from the beginning, it was most especially for the visual representation of the story and the beauty of it. I loved every nuance of the detailing of things that could be seen.
Clearly, the film was done twice; it appears that most of the scenarios had more than one angle.And in the end, when everything started to make sense, we saw "the other sides" to the story. Everything seemed brilliant to me.
The music, on the other hand, did not fall far from this trail of brilliance. And it was important that it did not, as they were a large contributing factor to the overall experience of the film.
In my book, every scene had the right song. And when they switched from one mood to another, they did it very well: from happy music to ominous music, and everything made sense.
This film made a whole lot of sense because of a lot of things, and this is owed mostly to the amazing actors we'd find in the film. It clearly would have been a total disaster if they had not done their job right.
What we have here in this film is an ensemble cast with every actor having just about the same screentime. This meant that we saw every one of them throughout the whole film, and their presence was important for the scene. This also meant that each and every one of them had to perform admirably. They were, indeed, excellent.
I particularly loved Daniel Craig, as I have known him to be a versatile actor over the years I have seen him, and I loved how he was able to drive the film with his character. Clearly, his character gave the most life to this film.
The Glass Onion had a standard left by its predecessor to meet. It is a very high one, as Knives Out left a mark as one of the best films in the last decade. And despite that, Glass Onion managed to keep the standard; it might have even surpassed it.
However, I feel there was more depth to the intricacies involved in Knives Out that I sort of enjoyed more. Nonetheless, it was interesting to see the turn Glass Onion took and how well the film delivered. It's definitely a film I'll watch again and again. It's a classic in my book.

Y otra película como esta es la de 2019, Knives Out, la precuela de la película recientemente estrenada, Glass Onion.
Knives Out fue sugerida por un primo mío allá por 2020. Y en sus palabras: "Knives Out es una locura". Cuando me dijo eso, sentí la inclinación a confiar en él, ya que parece que nos gustan tipos de películas similares. Y cuando terminé la película, me quedé de piedra: para mí, es un clásico.
Se anunció la secuela de Knives Out, Glass Onion, y me moría de ganas de verla. Y, como su predecesora, encabezó las listas de éxitos incluso en su primera semana en los cines. Me entusiasmé aún más porque creía en el bombo publicitario. Pero como no podía ir al cine, esperé a que se estrenara en los servicios de streaming.
No dudé en descargarme la película en cuanto me enteré de su estreno, y despejé parte de mi agenda para poder verla con la suficiente antelación. Y por las mismas razones por las que me encantó la primera película, me encantó ésta, pero ya hablaremos de eso. Hablemos un poco de la película para contextualizar.

Al parecer, la presencia de Beniot Blanc fue inesperada, incluso para el propio Miles, y esto perturbó el ambiente respecto a lo que Miles Bron había previsto. Pero la presencia de Beniot parece ser la clave de la verdad subyacente de los motivos e intenciones de todos, especialmente de Miles.
Debajo de la fachada que todo el mundo estaba levantando había actos turbios que estaban todos intrincadamente relacionados y tenían un fuerte impacto en un caso de asesinato real que se había mantenido en la oscuridad. Beniot Blanc estaba aquí para eso, pero lo que encontró iba mucho más allá de lo que había previsto y era alucinante. Lo que debería haber sido un divertido fin de semana se convierte en un libro de revelaciones.
Había pasado tanto tiempo desde el estreno de Knives Out que me había olvidado por completo de la secuela. Y cuando por fin me puse a verla, me enganché a los pocos minutos.
Con mi experiencia con "Knives Out", esperaba una serie de revelaciones fascinantes que me parecieran intrigantes. Había olvidado exactamente lo que sentí durante la mayor parte de la secuela, pero Glass Onion me lo recordó mientras la veía.
Glass Onion trata de una película que trata de una historia que debería ser sencilla pero que, con la introducción del detective, se convierte en una historia realmente complicada a medida que se hacen deducciones de asuntos que aparentemente están por encima de toda sospecha. Sin embargo, había estado tratando la película como una continuación directa de su precuela, Knives Out. Y como los personajes eran muy diferentes de lo que había visto antes, empecé a sentir que debería estar perdido, pero no lo estaba.
Glass Onion empezó y avanzó como si fuera una película nueva, lo que en realidad era excepto por el hecho de que el personaje principal es la razón por la que me entusiasmó la película. Sin embargo, los espectadores primerizos de ese personaje no necesitaban toda esa información para disfrutar plenamente de la película.
Me alivió ver que la película tenía una duración de unas 2 horas y 19 minutos cuando empecé a verla. Sabía que iba a disfrutar y no tenía que preocuparme de que todo sucediera demasiado rápido. Pensé que debería haber tiempo suficiente para desenvolverlo todo con estilo.
Lo ideal es que las películas con temas de deducción tarden tiempo en desarrollarse, en encajar las piezas. Y en lugar de hacer que el público se sintiera un poco desbordado en el transcurso de la narración de la historia, lo impregnaron todo de matices intrincadamente importantes para permitir un mayor entretenimiento y mantenerlo en marcha.
Por un lado, hay muchos momentos en los que entra en juego el humor. Puede ser en su conversación -algo extraño dicho por uno de los personajes en algún momento o Daniel Craig (Beniot Blanc) siendo salvajemente sarcástico con otro personaje. Me encantó especialmente cuando sucedieron estas cosas.
El aspecto más intrigante de esta película es cómo uno puede esperar que la explicación a un incidente concreto sea lo que esperaba, pero resulta ser algo que no esperaba. Y a veces, es menos técnica de lo esperado. Esto me encantó, ya que no era capaz de predecir la película por completo, lo que dejaba mucho margen para el disfrute.
Cada detalle de la historia estaba cuidadosamente pensado, ya que cada uno de ellos era importante para resolver los enigmas. Y cuando crees que todo ha terminado, vuelve a retomarse con toda su fuerza. Cuando todo se desenreda, uno puede quedarse pensando: "Ah, ¿así que eso es lo que significaba?".
Cuando se invierte mucho dinero en una película, hay más posibilidades de que salga bien. Sin embargo, algunas películas consiguen desafiar eso y siguen siendo terribles a pesar de todo. Por el contrario, Glass Onion no sólo demuestra que se invirtió mucho dinero en ella, sino también que se le dedicaron muchos pensamientos y esfuerzos.
Y como he dicho antes sobre lo absorto que me quedé desde el principio, fue sobre todo por la representación visual de la historia y su belleza. Me encantó cada matiz de los detalles de las cosas que se veían.
Está claro que la película se hizo dos veces; parece que la mayoría de los escenarios tenían más de un ángulo.Y al final, cuando todo empezó a tener sentido, vimos "las otras caras" de la historia. Todo me pareció brillante.
La música, por su parte, no se alejó mucho de esta estela de brillantez. Y era importante que no lo hiciera, ya que contribuían en gran medida a la experiencia global de la película.
En mi opinión, cada escena tenía la canción adecuada. Y cuando pasaban de un estado de ánimo a otro, lo hacían muy bien: de la música alegre a la ominosa, y todo tenía sentido.
Esta película tenía mucho sentido por muchas cosas, y esto se debe sobre todo a los increíbles actores que encontramos en ella. Está claro que habría sido un desastre total si no hubieran hecho bien su trabajo.
Lo que tenemos en esta película es un reparto conjunto en el que cada actor tiene casi el mismo tiempo en pantalla. Esto significaba que veíamos a cada uno de ellos a lo largo de toda la película, y que su presencia era importante para la escena. Esto también significaba que todos y cada uno de ellos tenían que actuar admirablemente. De hecho, estuvieron excelentes.
Me encantó especialmente Daniel Craig, ya que sé que es un actor muy versátil desde que lo vi, y me encantó cómo fue capaz de conducir la película con su personaje. Claramente, su personaje fue el que dio más vida a esta película.
The Glass Onion tenía que cumplir el listón dejado por su predecesora. Un listón muy alto, ya que Knives Out dejó huella como una de las mejores películas de la última década. Y a pesar de ello, Glass Onion consiguió mantener el listón; puede que incluso lo superara.
Sin embargo, creo que los entresijos de Knives Out eran más profundos y me gustaron más. No obstante, ha sido interesante ver el giro que ha dado Glass Onion y lo bien que ha funcionado. Sin duda, es una película que volveré a ver una y otra vez. En mi opinión, es un clásico.
