SPECTACULAR. That's how I simplify my review of this psychological thriller film. Asian cinema is winning many of the disputes with the West and this time I allow myself to share with you a gem from China. A few weeks ago I commented to another Hive movie buff about this film, I was wrong about its name and origin, I thought it was Korean since I saw it on YouTube and they changed the name, I guess because of copyright (in fact it is no longer there). Doing some research on the director and writer, Leste Chen, he had not had much luck with his productions but with this one he went all out. ATTENTION: I'm not mentioning all this (and what's missing) because I love movies of this genre, but it's actually brutally good.
ESPECTACULAR. Así simplifico mi crítica de este film de thriller psicológico. El cine asiático se está ganando muchas de las disputas con occidente y esta vez me permito compartirles una joya de China. Hace unas semanas le comentaba a otro cinéfilo de Hive sobre esta película, me equivoqué en su nombre y procedencia, pensé que era coreana ya que la vi en YouTube y le cambiaron el nombre, supongo que por copyright (de hecho ya no está). Investigando un poco sobre el director y escritor, Leste Chen, no había tenido mucha suerte con sus producciones pero con esta botó la casa por la ventana. OJO: No menciono todo esto (y lo que falta) porque me encantan las películas de este género, sino que en realidad es brutalmente buena.
Reality takes its toll. Being alert is not enough in this plot that from the beginning invites uncertainty and to doubt everything (something that hooks me), its development was truly studied and shaped, with an ending that slaps you in the face, so let's get to the story.
La realidad cobra su factura. El estar alerta no es suficiente en esta trama que desde el inicio invita a la incertidumbre y a dudar de todo (cosa que me engancha), su desarrollo fue verdaderamente estudiado y plasmado, con un final que te abofetea, así que vayamos a la historia.
Only at the beginning you already know that what is coming is pure genius, with gloomy, strange and terrifying scenes that serve as an opener to know the caliber of our protagonist, the world-renowned psychiatrist Xu Ruining, who also has airs of arrogance and believes himself to be the God of hypnotism and that any mental disorder can be treated and cured with this technique. At the hands of his mentor at the university, Dr. Fang, he obtains the history of a complicated case that he could treat but which he refuses without even looking at it; soon after he reads it, details it and becomes interested in Ren's story. This girl has been through an infinite number of specialists and none of them have been able to treat her strange pathology, even though she herself assures that she is not sick, that she can really see dead people.
Solo al comienzo ya sabes que lo que viene es genialidad pura, con escenas tétricas, extrañas y terroríficas que nos sirven de abrebocas para saber el calibre de nuestro protagonista, el psiquiatra reconocido mundialmente Xu Ruining, quien también tiene aires de arrogancia y se cree el Dios del hipnotismo y que cualquier trastorno mental se puede tratar y curar con esta técnica. Por manos de su mentora en la universidad, la Dra. Fang, obtiene el historial de un caso complicado que él podría tratar pero al que él se niega sin tan siquiera ojearlo; poco después lo lee, detalla y se interesa por la historia de Ren. Esta chica ha pasado por infinidades de especialistas y ninguno ha podido con su extraña patología a pesar de que ella misma asegura que no está enferma, que de verdad puede ver gente muerta.
Everything starts with the first date, Xu tries to know more about Ren and she egocentrically (as he does) gives him neutral answers even though she knows that he already has her history and knows her intricate case. Between sarcasm and sarcasm, questions and refuted evidence, he manages to hypnotize Ren without her realizing it and she begins to have strange visions that lead the Doctor to realize that something is not right... the truth is often better not to know it.
Todo inicia con la primera cita, Xu intenta saber más de Ren y esta, egocéntricamente (al igual que él) le da respuestas neutrales aunque ella sabe que él ya tiene su historial y sabe su intrincado caso. Entre sarcasmo y sarcasmo, preguntas y pruebas refutadas logra hipnotizar a Ren sin que ella se dé cuenta y comienza a tener extrañas visiones que llevan al Doctor a percatarse de que algo no va bien… la verdad muchas veces es mejor no saberla.
The film contains a scenic neatness that many like, full of details everywhere (yes, you have to be very, very attentive to everything always), spectacular performances that make you feel that you are living that moment in those same rooms as they are. So, as I always say: if you haven't seen it, see it, and if you have already seen it, see it again, you can't miss it at all. Highly recommended.
La cinta contiene una pulcritud escénica que gusta a muchos, llena de detalles por doquier (si, hay que estar muy pero muy atento a todo siempre), unas actuaciones espectaculares que te hacen sentir que estás viviendo ese momento en esas mismas habitaciones que ellos. Así que, como siempre les digo: si no la han visto, véanla, y si ya la vieron, vuélvanla a ver, que no tiene pérdida de nada. Altamente recomendada.
