Fallout - Why is it so good? (No spoilers)

Since I am in the world of video games I usually hear about Fallout, the first one came out in 1997 and after that several versions have been released, surely one better than the other, but in reality there is little I can tell you about the game since I never encouraged myself to buy or download it because titles like Pro Evolution Soccer, Need For Speed, among others, took all my attention and time. Now, this year the streaming service Amazon Prime trained a series of 8 chapters inspired by the aforementioned video game in which we can learn about that universe and of course, its history.

There are hundreds of movies and series that show us post-apocalyptic worlds and the truth is that most of them are usually about the same thing, zombies, meteorites, epidemics and nuclear wars, and well, the latter is precisely the origin of part of what we see in the series. To give you more context, after a nuclear attack was unleashed between two nations that left millions dead, only those who had access to shelters already premeditated by a malevolent company could be saved, so that, not having access to the surface by high radiation, those living in the shelters had to follow the corresponding protocol to survive and maintain the human species.

What I mentioned in the previous paragraph is only the initial premise, but believe me it is much more than that, before the fall of the bombs the U.S. government had already estimated that in the future there could come a scenario in which the country could not be inhabited on the surface and along with that they had already built a plan to survive, but obviously not all inhabitants could be saved, so the company that built the shelters charged each citizen so they could have a place, which gives us to understand that there were other interests that went beyond human survival.

Thus, after the bombs fell, everything changed completely, the surface was not at all habitable and chaos reigned in the open, since there were survivors, but with different conditions that made them fend for themselves in a real hell.

I won't tell you more for the moment so as not to give you spoilers, but why is this series so good, well, the truth is that there are several aspects that make it attractive and distinctive from most of them. The first would be how chaotic and unpredictable this universe is, nothing is clear and there is no certainty of who are the good guys or the bad guys since each side has motivations that it considers valid, although there is certainly a small group that has directly bad intentions.

Another striking element is that the characters have a very marked personality that generates interesting contrasts in the interactions they have with each other, this I mention is fundamental because the main character Lucy, an inhabitant of the shelters who had never come to the surface, is kind, innocent, well-intentioned and deluded, while on the other hand most of the people who live on the surface are violent, crazy, treacherous and even murderous, so seeing her dealing with these people and complex situations generated a lot of fun for me, but that made her character evolve in a positive way in order to adapt to this new world.

On the other hand, the direction of photography, visual and special effects is practically perfect, in fact, I would say that all the scenery is real, but we know that in these times that is rarely seen. The panoramic shots of each place are splendid and frankly give the impression that they are real places, the buildings, houses and destroyed cars take us to a post-apocalyptic world very accurate and realistic. The design of artifacts such as computers, cars and systems with retro-futuristic style is also a great success and on many occasions reminded me of the animated series "The Jetsons", but in an improved way, simply great.

Fallout - Official Trailer | Prime Video

I want to make a section for the soundtrack, we listened to classics from the 50's or 60's (I think) that fit very well with different scenes and that make a very good relationship with the personality of some characters and specific situations.

Thus, Amazon Prime's Fallout is an excellent option to see something totally different from what we usually see nowadays. Although it is inspired by a game, it should not be underestimated at any moment the good adaptation that has been made in which it is evident that a good budget has been invested. It is a fresh, cruel story with mysteries and plot twists that really catch the attention. If I had to give it a score it would be an 8.5/10.
