I only liked two minutes of the movie, and after watching those two minutes it was enough for me to make up my mind and recognize once and for all that even though we love Edgar Ramirez, it is more for show than because he really makes excellent movies. I have yet to see one that hooks me and that I say is the best movie in the world, except, I think, for "Libertador" and "The Assassination of Gianni Versace".

Solo dos minutos de película me gustaron, y luego de ver esos dos minutos bastaron para que yo me decidiera y reconociera de una vez por todas que aunque amemos a Edgar Ramírez es más por farándula que porque de verdad haga excelentes películas. No he visto aún alguna que me enganche y que diga que es la mejor película del mundo, a salvo creo, de "Libertador" y "El asesinato de Gianni Versace".

The plot of the film is that the Torres family headed by Mom, headed by Jennifer Gardner and Dad, Edgar Ramirez, plus their three children: a 14 year old teenager and two boys. An overbearing mother who says no to everything and a slightly more permissive father (nothing out of the ordinary than he shows us. Again and again in this kind of plots). After a school meeting, the teachers urge the parents to loosen up a bit because the kids are presenting through their homework that their mother is some kind of Hitler. By one of those strange coincidences that only in the movies can we observe, a teacher appears out of nowhere and tells the parents that they should try to do a Yes Day!, which consists of spending 24 hours accepting all of the children's requests without being able to say no.

La premisa de la película es que la familia Torres encabezada por Mamá, encabezada por Jennifer Gardner y papá, Edgar Ramírez, más sus tres hijos: una adolescente de 14 años y dos niños. Una madre autoritaria que a todo le dice que no y un padre un poco más permisivo (algo nada fuera de lo común de lo que nos muestra. Una y otra vez en este tipo de tramas). Luego de un reunión del colegio, los profesores instan a los padres a aflojar un poco la cuerda porque los niños están presentando por medio de sus tareas escolares que su madre es una especie de Hitler. Por una de esas casualidades extrañas que solo en el cine podemos observar, un maestro se aparece de la nada y le dice a los padres que deberían intentar hacer un Yes Day!, el cual consta de pasar 24 horas aceptando todas las peticiones de los niños sin poder decir que no.

What's the problem?

For me it was an accumulation of problems, starting with a performance by Edgar Ramirez that left something to be desired, I still don't know if it was a language barrier or lack of direction, but what was clear is that he was missing a lot and as a comedian he is not that good. Jennifer Gardber is a pretty good actress, if something could have gone well it was her performance, we have an actress who has been in many films but I will always remember her for "If I were 30" in which she shows us her charisma, in this one she did it again but one person can hardly save a production.

¿En dónde está el problema?

Para mí fueron un cúmulo de problemas, empezando por una actuación de Edgar Ramírez que dejaba que desear, aún no sé si sea una barrera idiomática o falta de dirección, pero lo que si estabas claro es que faltaba mucho y como comediante no es tan bueno. Jennifer Gardber es una actriz bastante buena, si algo pudo haber salido bien fue su actuación, tenemos a una actriz que ha pasado por muchas películas pero yo la recordaré siempre por "Si tuviera 30" en el que nos demuestra su carisma, en esta lo volvió a hacer pero una sola persona difícilmente puede salvar una producción.

Pathetic direction by Miguel Arteta, the editing and editing was even worse, the transitions between scenes seemed to come from completely isolated shots, we could see different expressions of the actors for only a minute with unnecessary jumps and lack of coherence that worsen the film. In addition to a couple of scenes that seemed unnecessary, like the fight in the park over a giant pink gorilla.

Dirección patética de parte de Miguel Arteta, la edición y montaje fue aún peor, las transiciones entre escenas parecían que vinieran de tomas completamente aisladas, podríamos ver distintas expresiones de los actores durante en solo un minuto con saltos innecesarios y faltos de coherencia que empeoran la película. Además de un par de escenas que me parecieron innecesarias, como la pelea en el parque por un gorila rosado gigante.

Do I recommend it? Not at all, but since we are lovers of "Soy desierto, selva, nieve, volcán y Edgar Ramírez" (because of the song, Venezuela) then for sure the group of Venezuelans we meet at Hive will run to see it. My recommendation in this case is that you watch it on a Tuesday afternoon when you are completely bored, that you have absolutely nothing else to watch. However, if you have kids at home, you are sure to laugh out loud because it is actually made for kids and very full of wholesome fun. It is based on the children's book of the same name by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Tom Lichtenheld.

¿Se las recomiendo? Para nada, pero como somos amantes del "Soy desierto, selva, nieve, volcán y Edgar Ramírez" entonces de seguro que el grupo de venezolanos que nos encontramos en Hive irá corriendo a verla. Mi recomendación en este caso es que la vean un martes por la tarde cuando estén completamente aburridos, que no tengan absolutamente más nada que ver. Sin embargo, si tienen niños en casa, seguro van a reírse a carcajadas porque en realidad está hecha para niños y muy llena de sana diversión. Ya que esta está basada en el libro infantil del mismo nombre de Amy Krouse Rosenthal y Tom Lichtenheld.

The first two minutes were worth it, it's true, but only for the fact of watching our Edgar teach Jennifer how to prepare a pabellon arepa. Another thing I ended up corroborating is that just because a movie is in first place on Netflix doesn't mean it's good.

Los dos primeros minutos valieron la pena, es cierto, pero solo por el hecho de ver a nuestro Edgar enseñarle a Jennifer a preparar una arepa de pabellón. Otra cosa que terminé de corroborar es que no porque una película esté en primer lugar en Netflix quiere decir que sea buena.

I'll say goodbye for now, and if you know of any good production in which Edgar was good, let me know and I'll be glad to see it. We will still love him because he is in Hollywood and rubs shoulders with the biggest names in show business.

Me despido por ahora, y si saben de alguna buena producción en la que Edgar estuvo bien, déjenmelo saber que yo con gusto podré verla. De igual manera lo seguiremos amando porque está en Hollywood y se codea con los más grandes del mundo del espectáculo.
