A veces la realidad se vuelve tan retorcida que no sabemos si sigue siendo real o es ficción, por eso existe la constante pregunta de ¿el arte imita la realidad o la realidad imita al arte?. Desde la noticia sobre la isla de Jeffrey Epstein y las aberraciones que se hacían ahí con mujeres, niños y demás, la realidad se volvió más grotesca que cualquier idea retorcida que alguien pudiese tener; desde que se destapó esa olla de hechos, se desató un efecto dominó revelando más situaciones parecidas, personas involucradas o incluso que tenían su propio modo operandi como lo es el caso de Dan Schneider y el más reciente, P. Diddy
Este tipos de tema a dado paso a creaciones cinematográficas que exponen estos casos para crear conciencia desde el entretenimiento, es una forma segura de transmitir el mensaje y dar a conocer estos sucesos sin el exceso de censura al que estamos expuestos en las redes sociales como los medios de noticias tradicionales; este es el caso de Blink Twice, un thriller de terror psicológico, dirigida por Zoë Kravitz, sobre abuso de poder que refleja muy bien lo que se sospecha pasaba en las islas privadas y mansiones de estos depravados que hoy en día están saliendo a la luz.
Sometimes reality becomes so twisted that we don't know if it is still real or fiction, that's why there is the constant question of does art imitate reality or reality imitates art? Since the news about Jeffrey Epstein's island and the aberrations that were done there with women, children and others, reality became more grotesque than any twisted idea that anyone could have; since that pot of facts was uncovered, a domino effect was unleashed revealing more similar situations, people involved or even who had their own mode of operation as is the case of Dan Schneider and the most recent, P. Diddy.
This type of topic has given way to cinematic creations that expose these cases to raise awareness from entertainment, it is a safe way to convey the message and publicize these events without the excess of censorship to which we are exposed in social networks such as traditional news media; this is the case of Blink Twice, a psychological horror thriller, directed by Zoë Kravitz, about abuse of power that reflects very well what is suspected happened in the private islands and mansions of these depraved people that today are coming to light.
Aunque ya lo recalqué en el título, lo repetiré para que dejarlo claro, esta reseña va a contener algunos spoiler porque más que una reseña a la película per se será mi opinión como critica a la situación actual en el mundo del espectáculo y entretenimiento. Blink Twice empieza con una advertencia sobre el contenido de la película debido que para muchos puede ser un tema bastante sensible porque, lamentablemente, es un tipo de abuso que se vive casi día a día y que está bastante normalizado, lo que da a entender que todos, por lo menos una vez en la vida sufrimos de abuso de poder.
La historia se centra en Frida, una camarera de eventos para multimillonarios que, junto a su mejor amiga Jess se infiltraran en la fiesta para sentir cómo es la vida en la élite por una noche; lo que no se esperan es que en el transcurso de la noche, Slater King, magnate de la tecnología, se fije en Frida y ambos queden flechados uno con el otro. Al finalizar la noche, King le dice que se debe ir a su isla privada para tener una temporada de aislamiento debido a sus terapias, aunque suene descabellado él les ofrece a las dos chicas que lo acompañen y sin pensarlo dos veces ellas aceptan.
Although I already emphasized it in the title, I will repeat it to make it clear, this review will contain some spoilers because more than a review of the film per se, it will be my opinion as a criticism of the current situation in the world of entertainment. Blink Twice begins with a warning about the content of the film because for many it can be a very sensitive subject because, unfortunately, it is a type of abuse that is lived almost every day and is quite normalized, which implies that everyone, at least once in life suffer from abuse of power.
The story centers on Frida, a waitress at events for billionaires who, along with her best friend Jess, infiltrate the party to feel what life is like for the elite for one night; what they don't expect is that during the course of the night, Slater King, a technology magnate, notices Frida and they both fall in love with each other. At the end of the night, King tells her that he must go to his private island to have a season of isolation due to his therapies, although it sounds crazy he offers the two girls to accompany him and without thinking twice they accept.
Ya empezando con esa premisa me desmotive bastante con la película porque nadie, que tenga dos dedos de frente, se va a una isla privada en medio de la nada con un grupo de totales desconocidos, sin importar la cantidad de dinero que tengan en el banco pero como esto es "ficción", le di una segunda oportunidad.
Una vez en la isla todo es como si fuese un sueño, tan perfecto que te genera una extraña sensación de que algo no está del todo bien, la isla es hermosa, tiene un clima perfecto, rodeada de tanta naturaleza que es una especie de Edén en la tierra; la primera alarma me vino cuando les piden los teléfonos a todo con la excusa de desconectarse del mundo durante su estadía y todos, como si estuviesen cegados o programados para hacer caso, dejan sus equipos sin chistar excepto Jess que desde un principio a sido la que más, entre comillas, sentido común tiene de todos.
Already starting with that premise I was quite discouraged with the film because no one, who has two fingers in front, goes to a private island in the middle of nowhere with a group of total strangers, no matter how much money they have in the bank but as this is “fiction”, I gave it a second chance.
Once on the island everything is as if it were a dream, so perfect that it generates a strange feeling that something is not quite right, the island is beautiful, has a perfect climate, surrounded by so much nature that is a kind of Eden on earth; the first alarm came to me when they ask everyone for their phones with the excuse of disconnecting from the world during their stay and everyone, as if they were blinded or programmed to do so, leave their equipment without complaining except Jess who from the beginning has been the most, quote unquote, common sense of all.
Los días pasan y todo sigue siendo perfecto, tanto que ni siquiera saben cuántos días tienen en la isla ya, entre el alcohol, las drogas, la comida y la buena compañía todo se olvida; Frida nota que debajo de sus uñas hay restos de tierra pero lo ignora y las limpia como si no tuviese importancia. Todo es bastante monótono pero tú como espectador sabes que no todo está bien, hay algo raro pero no sabes qué es y eso te mantiene en constante tensión.
En la isla hay un tipo de flor que solo crece en esa isla, con esa flor crean un perfume exquisito que todas las mujeres del grupo utilizan, así mismo hay un plaga de serpientes venenosas que el personal de la isla se encarga de exterminar pero estos tienen una actitud extraña la cuál Frida nota pero como está "pasando un buen momento" decide ignorar.
The days go by and everything is still perfect, so much so that they don't even know how many days they have on the island already, between alcohol, drugs, food and good company everything is forgotten; Frida notices that under her fingernails there are traces of dirt but she ignores it and cleans them as if it were unimportant. Everything is quite monotonous but you as a spectator know that all is not well, there is something strange but you don't know what it is and that keeps you in constant tension.
On the island there is a type of flower that only grows on that island, with that flower they create an exquisite perfume that all the women of the group use, likewise there is a plague of poisonous snakes that the island staff is in charge of exterminating but they have a strange attitude which Frida notices but as she is “having a good time” she decides to ignore.
Nada cambia hasta que una noche, cegados por el estasis de la droga misteriosa que todos consumen sin la menor preocupación, a Jess la muerde una serpiente y desata un pequeño caos que se olvida rápidamente al día siguiente; Frida se levanta y se da cuenta que falta su amiga, le pregunta a las demás mujeres y estás actúan como si Jess nunca hubiese existido, como si siempre hubiesen sido ellas 4 solamente y no 5, esto desata las alertas de Frida y entra en pánico.
Hablando con una de las muchachas se da cuenta que han estado olvidando cosas, Frida solo se acuerda de Jess porque es su amiga de años pero las demás no saben si quiera quién es; tratan de mantener la calma par ano despertar sospechas e intentar alertar a las demás pero estás están demasiado drogadas para prestarles atención. Frida explorando el lugar llega a la cabaña de una de las empleadas del lugar y esta le da de beber un liquido extraño de una botella que resulta ser el veneno de las serpientes; gracias a esto empieza a recordar debido a que el veneno es el antídoto del perfume el cual es una droga que te hace olvidar.
Nothing changes until one night, blinded by the stasis of the mysterious drug that everyone consumes without the slightest concern, Jess is bitten by a snake and unleashes a little chaos that is quickly forgotten the next day; Frida wakes up and realizes that her friend is missing, she asks the other women and they act as if Jess had never existed, as if there had always been only 4 of them and not 5, this triggers Frida's alerts and she panics.
Talking to one of the girls she realizes that they have been forgetting things, Frida only remembers Jess because she is her friend of years but the others don't even know who she is; they try to keep calm to avoid arousing suspicion and try to alert the others but they are too stoned to pay attention to them. Frida exploring the place arrives at the cabin of one of the employees of the place and this one gives her to drink a strange liquid from a bottle that turns out to be the poison of the snakes; thanks to this she begins to remember because the poison is the antidote of the perfume which is a drug that makes you forget.
A partir de aquí se desata el caos y la ansiedad se hace presente porque tus sospechas de que algo estaba pasando se empiezan a revelar, Frida le da del veneno a la otra mujer para que empiece a recordar, así mismo le dan el veneno a las otra mujeres para que despierten de este estado inconsciente.
Hasta aquí voy a hablar de los sucesos de la película para no contarla toda de principio a fin y dejar algo para aquellas personas que quieran ir a verla, porque realmente recomiendo mucho que vean esta película pero, aunque me gustó bastante, debo decir que es una obra maestra en como representa algo que para la gente común parece descabellado pero les puedo asegurar que es algo que sucede y puede estar sucediente mientras estás leyendo estás palabras.
From this point on, chaos breaks out and anxiety becomes present because your suspicions that something was going on begin to be revealed, Frida gives the poison to the other woman so that she begins to remember, likewise they give the poison to the other women so that they wake up from this unconscious state.
So far I am going to talk about the events of the movie so as not to tell it all from beginning to end and leave something for those people who want to go to see it, because I really recommend you to see this movie but, although I liked it a lot, I must say that it is a masterpiece in how it represents something that for common people seems crazy but I can assure you that it is something that happens and can be happening while you are reading these words.
El ser humano es codicioso y ambicioso, siempre quiere más de lo que sea, dinero, estatus, poder, placer pero cuando se tiene acceso fácil a todo se busca algo más, algo prohibido o algo que no todos se atreven o tiene acceso; así es cómo se le da pie a las peores depravaciones que se han conocido a lo largo de la historia, desde acciones con fines científicos o para la medicina, hasta por placer y lujuria.
Esto no es algo nuevo, esto ha sucedido a lo largo de la historia humana porque es una conducta típica de nuestra especie, así tú creas que jamás podrías hacer tales cosas, la verdad es que cuando se tiene acceso a todo, la vida pierde interés y somos capaces de hacer cosas impensables para seguir entretenidos o disfrutando de la vida; la moral y la ética son simplemente constructos sociales que varían según la cultura y el sistema de creencias.
Human beings are greedy and ambitious, they always want more of anything, money, status, power, pleasure, but when they have easy access to everything, they look for something else, something forbidden or something that not everyone dares or has access to; this is how they give rise to the worst depravities that have been known throughout history, from actions for scientific purposes or for medicine, to pleasure and lust.
This is not something new, this has happened throughout human history because it is a typical behavior of our species, even if you believe that you could never do such things, the truth is that when you have access to everything, life loses interest and we are capable of doing unthinkable things to continue entertaining or enjoying life; morals and ethics are simply social constructs that vary according to culture and belief system.
La diferencia es que hoy en día, el internet y la facilidad que tenemos de compartir datos, almacenar información y lo sencillo que es acceder a ella a través de un simple click ha hecho que todos tengamos conocimiento de las cosas que han sucedido, están sucediendo y crear nuestras propias teorías de las que pueden ocurrir.
Dentro de nuestra burbuja de moralidad, valores y ética vemos esto como algo atroz pero para muchas personas es una forma de reafirmar su poder, su estatus y algo tan normal como salir a comprar pan a la panadería más cercana; por eso siempre digo y diré "si alguien lo pensó, alguien más ya lo hizo". Con esto no estoy defendiendo absolutamente nada de lo que esa gente ha hecho, todo lo contrario, estoy criticando el poder casi absoluto que muchas personalidades al rededor del mundo tienen y que gracias a ese poder puede hacer y deshacer sin atenerse a las consecuencias de sus actos, pasando por encima de entes policiales, gubernamentales y la ley.
The difference is that today, the internet and the ease we have to share data, store information and how easy it is to access it through a simple click has made us all aware of the things that have happened, are happening and create our own theories of what may happen.
Within our bubble of morality, values and ethics we see this as something atrocious but for many people it is a way to reaffirm their power, their status and something as normal as going out to buy bread at the nearest bakery; that is why I always say and will say “if someone thought it, someone else already did it”. With this I am not defending absolutely nothing of what these people have done, on the contrary, I am criticizing the almost absolute power that many personalities around the world have and that thanks to that power they can do and undo without regard to the consequences of their actions, bypassing police, governmental entities and the law.
Sinceramente este es un tema que tiene casi mi absoluto interés, no por morbo sino como una forma de estudiar la conducta humana y la forma como nos han escupido a la cara durante años pero nosotros seguimos ciegos; literalmente nos han mostrado sus rituales, fiestas llenas de depravaciones y demás con materiales como Eyes Wide Shut, Sound of Freedom, el vídeo musical de Yummy de Justin Bieber, o el de Bon Appétit de Katy Perry o incluso el más reciente estreno en el cine llamado The Substance haciendo una clara alusión al Adrenocromo.
Admito que me da un poco de miedo hablar de estos temas en algo tan publico pero es hora de tomar conciencia y entender que esta clase de atrocidades están sucediendo y no se van a detener hasta que se corte de raíz, o como se dice en mi país "se mate la culebra por la cabeza".
Honestly this is a topic that has almost my absolute interest, not because of morbid curiosity but as a way to study human behavior and the way they have been spitting in our faces for years but we are still blind; they have literally shown us their rituals, parties full of depravity and so on with materials like Eyes Wide Shut, Sound of Freedom, the music video for Justin Bieber's Yummy, or Katy Perry's Bon Appétit or even the most recent movie release called The Substance making a clear allusion to Adrenochrome.
I admit that I am a little afraid to talk about these issues in something so public but it is time to become aware and understand that this kind of atrocities are happening and will not stop until they are nipped in the bud, or as they say in my country “kill the snake by the head”.
Volviendo a la película, debo resaltar que las actuaciones de todos son increíbles; Channing Tatum ya es un actor consolidado pero siento que aquí se pudo ver una faceta mucho más profunda de él como actor y cambiar esa imagen de hombre guapo, musculoso de Magic Mike, por ejemplo; así mismo, nos dio a conocer a Naomi Ackie que a pesar de no ser una actriz nueva, podría decir que este es su debut.
Más allá de unas actuaciones a la altura, las cuales te envuelven tanto en la trama que te hace sentir la desesperación, ansiedad y angustia como si fuese tuya; debo resaltar el excelente trabajo de dirección que hizo Zoë, tengo entendido que es su primer proyecto en el rol de dirección y como directora considero que lo hizo excelente.
Realmente la película es muy buena, del 1 al 10 le doy un 8, aunque me gustó bastante no es de esas películas que me atrapan como para verla en repetidas ocasiones pero eso no le quita el gran trabajo que se hizo. Gracias por leerme y apoyarme, de verdad lo aprecio bastante; nos vemos pronto💙
Going back to the film, I must highlight that everyone's performances are incredible; Channing Tatum is already an established actor but I feel that here we could see a much deeper facet of him as an actor and change that image of a handsome, muscular man from Magic Mike, for example; likewise, he introduced us to Naomi Ackie who despite not being a new actress, I could say that this is her debut.
Beyond some performances to the height, which involve you so much in the plot that makes you feel the despair, anxiety and anguish as if it were yours; I must highlight the excellent directing job Zoë did, I understand that this is her first project in the role of director and as a director I think she did an excellent job.
Really the movie is very good, from 1 to 10 I give it an 8, although I liked it a lot it is not one of those movies that catch me as to see it repeatedly but that does not take away the great work that was done. Thanks for reading and supporting me, I really appreciate it; see you soon💙
