Users who are used to reading me or going through this humble blog know of my love for Bollywood cinema. Indian works can be true gems beyond the exotic that they may seem to us from the West, however I usually explore few genres within the Bollywoodense spectrum, such as comedy, drama and thriller and this is the first time that I have given myself an opportunity to investigate the Terror terrain, albeit in the strangest way possible.
Game over is a film that is not easily labeled because it tries to cover many genres in its plot, such as drama, thriller and horror. The film begins as a drama and a girl (Swapna) trying to end a trauma. For Swapna, being locked in a dark place can be the most terrifying sensation in the world.
Los usuarios que están acostumbrados a leerme o pasar por este humilde blog saben de mi afición hacia el cine de Bollywood. Las obras indias pueden ser auténticas joyas más allá de lo exótico que puedan parecernos desde occidente, sin embargo suelo explorar pocos géneros dentro del espectro bollywoodense, como comedia, drama y thriller y esta es la primera vez que me doy una oportunidad para indagar en el terreno del terror, aunque de la manera más extraña posible.
Game over es una película que no es fácilmente etiquetable porque intenta abarcar muchos géneros en su trama, como drama, thriller y terror. El film empieza como un drama y una chica (Swapna) que intenta acabar con un trauma. Para Swapna quedarse encerrada en un sitio oscuro puede ser la sensación más terrorífica del mundo.
The story itself is a bit scattered and can confuse any viewer. On the one hand, Swapna is a video game creator (or so we can guess) and on the other hand, we see a trauma, while this happens everything goes well until the film is still in process and involves a tattoo. Yes, this girl has a heart-shaped tattoo with the words Game Over, a tribute to the video game industry, but make no mistake, the movie has little to do with it, except for some winks.
La historia en si está un poco dispersa y puede confundir a cualquier espectador. Por un lado Swapna es un creadora de videojuegos (o eso podemos intuir) y por otro lado vemos un trauma, mientras esto sucede todo va bien hasta que la película sigue en proceso e involucra un tatuaje. Si, esta chica tiene un tatuaje en forma de corazón con las palabras Game Over, tributo a la industria de los videojuegos, pero no se confundan, la película poco tiene que ver con esto, excepto algunos guiños.
This girl soon after learned that her tattoo was made as a commemorative one, that is, with the ashes of someone who died. Apparently, it is a custom in India to tattoo and place part of the ashes of a dear deceased relative giving them the feeling of being part of them for life. After we watch Swapna find out about this, the scary part begins.
Esta chica poco tiempo después se entera de que su tatuaje fue hecho como uno conmemorativo, es decir con las cenizas de alguien fallecido. Aparentemente es una costumbre en la India tatuarse y colocar parte de las cenizas de un querido familiar fallecido dándoles la sensación de ser parte de ellos para toda la vida. Después de que observamos a Swapna enterarse de esto, empieza la parte terrorífica.
We will be able to appreciate flashbacks of another story, the story of the deceased person and then each time the film becomes more confusing and even sometimes hilarious. The script gets out of control, but there is still a dark tone that drives us to continue watching the film despite not fully understanding what is happening.
If we go with the idea of capturing details as if it were a thriller, we will go in the wrong plan. The film is made in this way, without any explanations and especially abruptly in the end, if you can with that I recommend that you watch it.
The real wink that this production has about video games is precisely in the end and is related to the lives that the characters of that industry can have. A concept that I found quite interesting.
Podremos apreciar flashbacks de otra historia, la historia de la persona fallecida y luego cada vez la película se vuelve más confusa e inclusive en algunas ocasiones hilarante. El guion se descontrola, pero sigue habiendo un tono oscuro que nos impulsa a seguir viendo la película pese a no entender completamente lo que está ocurriendo.
Si vamos con la idea de ir captando detalles como si fuese un thriller iremos en plan equivocado. La película está hecha de esta manera, sin muchas explicaciones y de manera abrupta en especial en el final, si puedes con eso te recomiendo que la veas.
El verdadero guiño que tiene esta producción acerca de los videojuegos es precisamente en el final y está relacionado con las vidas que los personajes de esa industria pueden tener. Un concepto que me pareció bastante interesante.
Cinema and literature are constantly teaching us things and even more so when we dedicate ourselves to watching films from around the world, without any borders.
The film tries to create an atmosphere of dark and fantastic realism, where horror and thriller go hand in hand, creating a chaotic bubble in a lazy script that was not molded as it should but still can give us a few interesting scenes. The film is not bad and is a little above the average for horror productions today, but I do not consider it a must-see film.
It teaches us a little more about myths, legends and customs about India and as a horror film it fulfills its mission but without being exempt from certain situations that border on the ridiculous, something that I must admit that frequently happens in films of this country, no I know if it is due to culture or the constant presence of spectacularity in Indian cinema.
El cine y la literatura nos están constantemente enseñando cosas y aún más cuando nos dedicamos a ver películas del mundo entero, sin ninguna frontera.
La película intenta crear una atmosfera de realismo oscuro y fantástico, donde el horror y el thriller van de la mano creando una burbuja caótica en un guion perezoso que no fue moldeado como debía pero que aun así nos puede dar unas cuantas escenas interesantes. La película no es mala y está un poco más arriba del promedio de producciones de horror de la actualidad, pero no la considero una película imprescindible.
Nos enseña un poco más acerca de mitos, leyendas y costumbres sobre la india y como película de terror cumple su cometido pero sin estar exenta de ciertas situaciones que rayan en lo ridículo, algo que debo admitir que frecuentemente pasa en películas de este país, no sé si sea debido a la cultura o la constante presencia de espectacularidad en el cine indio.
