I've seen a lot of war movies and in fact, I can say that they are among my favorite movie genres. They often tell us the harsh reality of a war, a reality that most of us have not experienced, but which are historical events that should not be repeated. Humanity has not learned from its own history and perhaps never will.
Much has been said about the Second World War, especially about the Nazis and Jews. In a previous post I had given my opinion that the other side of the story has rarely been told, I mean that of the Red Army and the atrocities that the Soviet regime did with minorities and with Eastern Europe.
Películas bélicas he visto muchas y de hecho puedo decir que están entre mis géneros cinematográficos favoritos. Nos cuentan a menudo la cruda realidad de una guerra, de una realidad que la mayoría de nosotros no ha experimentado, pero que son hechos históricos que no deberían de repetirse. La humanidad no ha aprendido de su propia historia y quizás nunca lo haga.
Mucho se ha hablado de la segunda guerra mundial, sobre todo acerca de los nazis y judíos. En un post anterior había dado mi opinión acerca de que pocas veces se ha contado el otro lado de la historia, me refiero al del ejército rojo y las atrocidades que el régimen soviético hizo con las minorías y con el este de Europa.
Lina is a girl who anxiously waits to be accepted by the arts college (curiously like Hitler in his youth) but her desire is decimated by the sudden deportation by the Soviet army to the Baltic republics in this case Lithuania.
After a long train journey in which many atrocities take place along the way, Lina, her mother, and her little brother are faced with dealing with forced labor situations and observing the petty murder of many of their compatriots. Lina observing this dark panorama decides to seek refuge in art, also looking for ways to withstand the heavy work that they had to do.
Lina es una chica que espera ansiosamente a ser aceptada por el colegio de artes (curiosamente al igual que Hitler en su juventud) pero su deseo se ve diezmado por la repentina deportación por parte del ejército soviético a las repúblicas bálticas en este caso Lituania.
Tras un largo viaje en tren en el cual pasan muchas atrocidades en su recorrido, Lina, su madre y su hermano pequeño se ven enfrentados a lidiar con situaciones de trabajo forzado y observar el asesinato por razones menores de muchos de sus compatriotas. Lina observando este panorama oscuro, decide buscar un refugio en el arte, también buscando las maneras de como soportar el trabajo pesado que les tocaba hacer.
Not satisfied with that, the leader of that Soviet group sends some of those people to Serbia, one of the coldest places on the planet, and in that way almost condemning them to death, but despite everything Lina and her mother are strong spirits that impose themselves the way they can in the face of hostility from their captors. Lina's strength is one of the key components in the film, a girl who starts out shy but whose circumstances make a dent in her heart, producing in her the necessary strength to face all adversities.
Stalin and Hitler were bitter enemies but with similarities as well, both were responsible for annihilating millions of people, decimating towns, and committing heinous war crimes. This is one of the few films that I personally know that show us the reality of the Soviet Union and the calamities that many had to endure for being considered enemies of the regime almost gratuitously.
No conforme con eso, el líder de ese grupo soviético envía a parte de esa gente a Serbia, uno de los lugares más fríos del planeta y de esa manera casi condenándolos a muerte pero pese a toda Lina y su madre son espíritus fuertes que se imponen de la manera en que pueden ante la hostilidad de sus captores. La fuerza de Lina es uno de los componentes claves en la película, una chica que empieza siendo tímida pero que las circunstancias hacen mella en su corazón produciendo en ella la fuerza necesaria para enfrentar todas las adversidades.
Stalin y Hitler fueron enemigos acérrimos pero con similitudes también, ambos fueron responsables de aniquilar a millones de personas, diezmar pueblos y cometer crímenes de guerra atroces. Esta es una de las pocas películas que personalmente conozco que nos muestran la realidad de la Unión Soviética y las calamidades que muchos tuvieron que soportar por ser considerados enemigos del régimen de manera casi gratuita.
Thanks to this type of film, we can appreciate historical events in a slightly more interactive way, which in turn motivates us to investigate more exactly what happened. The same thing happens to me when I finish a historical novel, I try to do an investigation to see how much of what I read or saw is real and how much is fiction. Be that as it may, in the case of this film, the truth is that in the Second World War there was something to spare and it was death.
The Soviet Union lasted for many more years after the Second World War, giving Stalin and the future rulers of the Red Army the opportunity to make a disaster with their people and not to mention what happened to the countries absorbed by the union such as Ukraine, Yugoslavia, Lithuania and a long etc that after many years finally achieve their independence, although as it is said in the film, many still fight for freedom, starting with the Russians themselves.
Gracias a este tipo de películas podemos apreciar de manera un poco más interactivo hechos históricos que a su vez nos motiva a investigar con más exactitud lo que sucedió. Me sucede lo mismo al terminar una novela histórica, trato de hacer una investigación para ver qué tanto de lo que lei o vi es real y que tanto es ficción. Sea como fuese en el caso de esta película, lo cierto es que en la segunda guerra mundial hubo algo de sobra y fue muerte.
La unión soviética duro durante muchos años más después de la segunda guerra mundial dándole la oportunidad de Stalin y a los futuros gobernantes del ejército rojo hacer un desastre con su pueblo y ni hablar de lo que pasaba con los países absorbidos por la unión como ucrania, Yugoslavia, Lituania y un largo etc que después de muchos años finalmente logran su independencia, aunque como se dice en la película, aun muchos luchan por la libertad, empezando por los mismos rusos.
Oppression will never lead a nation to be prosperous, although it is true that the Soviet Union had great achievements at the level of military and scientific power, it was thanks to a high cost of human capital. The state was the only important thing and freedom of expression, freedom as an individual were non-existent. Hence, George Orwell produced one of the best books on this subject in 1984.
The strategies used in the Soviet Union quickly became a manual for other rulers who used the same demagoguery at first and later used stratagems and collective manipulation among their people, often creating a dangerous cult of personality.
This is a highly recommended film, without extreme harshness, with a simple but tragic script that teaches us a little more about the Second World War, especially about the more opaque side.
La opresión nunca llevara a una nación a ser prospera, si bien es cierto que la unión soviética tuvo grandes logros a nivel de potencia militar y científica fue gracias a un elevado coste de capital humano. El estado era lo único importante y la libertad de expresión, la libertad como individuo eran inexistentes. De ahí a que George Orwell produjera uno de los mejores libros sobre este tema 1984.
Las estrategias usadas en la Unión Soviética rápidamente se volvieron un manual para otros gobernantes que usaban la misma demagogia al principio para luego usar estratagemas y una manipulación colectiva entre su pueblo, muchas veces creando un peligroso culto a la personalidad.
Esta es una película altamente recomendable, sin una crudeza extrema, con un guion sencillo pero trágico que nos enseña un poco más sobre la segunda guerra mundial, sobre todo acerca del lado más opacado.
