This is the voice....of the people

Earlier in the week the rumours started and the were getting louder by the day. Could it be possible that in the successfull Dutch television show 'the Voice of Holland' there were so many abnormalities going on regarding sexual abuse? Inside a very large television production?

The show had been running since 2009 or 2010 and the concept had been sold to many other countries as well. Contestants would do vocal auditions without the judges seeing them. If they liked what they heard, the would 'turn their chairs' and put this contestant into their team.

In these teams the contestants would get a lot of musical and performance training with the ultimate idea to turn them into super stars. The coaches would enhance the skills, boost their self esteem and compete with the other teams.

All of this seemed to start falling apart earlier in the week with the rumours coming out that the band leader had made a large amount of sexual concept remarks and whatsapps to some of the participants.

Later two other judges also came in the news not in a good way because of 'touching young contestants' and the other one with 'rape accusations'. A whole mouth full and I can say this is the talk of the town in Holland at the moment.

With 7.6 million views in less than a day the literally means that nearly half of the Dutch population has watched this. The fact that all fo this happened is terrible, the fact that it is getting so much attention and is choosen not to be swept under the rug is very good.

The whole concept of that someone should be able to work in a safe environment without having the feeling that they should 'yes' to anything because otherwise the feeling of 'blowing the oppertunity'(bad choice of words I know) would come kicking in.

After the whole #metoo discussion which has dropped a lot in attention the last couple of years it is good to see this again is getting so much attention even though it is terrible this is still happening.

Regarding the future of the program and the reputations of the ones involved, I guess both of them are destroyed but that is what happens. You should be in a safe place to spend your daily stuff, not worry about whatever secondary agenda other might have.
