Few films had what The Evil Dead (1981) had, partly because rarely do you see the perfect trifecta of a willing cast, an emerging director, and a lot of black humor in the B-movie horror genre.
In another part because of how it became popular and even Stephen King supported it at the time, to turn it into a massive release, and making it an instant classic despite its low budget and an unknown cast.
It's one of those rare cases where popular opinion, critics, and the way it was released helped make it a great film. The Evil Dead had a great blessing that no one saw coming, maybe it was the "unseen force" that is present throughout the story the one we identify as the main villain, maybe it was a lot of incredible talent mixed behind the project, either way, it was a cult classic that the world has rarely seen, only rubbed shoulders with others like Blade Runner, Donnie Darko, Rocky horror show or The Big Lebowski to name a few.
What they all have in common(Besides an unexpected success) is that they are always projects that have great friends, unknown communities, and many people interested in doing their best during filming, although in the case of The Evil Dead, perhaps they took it too far.
This film was almost torture for its actors, the weather conditions were hostile, the cabin was cold and many scenes were shot at night and they had to constantly deal with defects on the set as they had only one carpenter, who also served as the film's main art director.
On top of all those factors director, Sam Raimi(Yes, the director of the new Doctor Strange) constantly scared or angered the actors to make their expressions of anguish, pain, discomfort, or panic real for the film. You know, tricks for emerging directors, if you don't have good actors, make it real and they're sure to perform wonderfully.
You constantly see the doubt about the reality of the effects with a touch of black humor, because even though there were countless efforts, they could not overcome the budget limits they had, they constantly fought against countless barriers and that is narrated by all the actors and the director when they talk about the film.
The premiere arrives and no one in the cast could believe that they filled a single theater, let alone that almost a thousand people were waiting to see the film (I miss being able to go to the movies, post Covid-19 stuff), it was a total surprise. That led the director to reconsider and look for a way to turn the film into a surprise hit.
The love of the cast is remarkable in the work, and my love for it leaves it among my favorite films, it was Gore before being gore was common, it was surprising before screamers were abused as in modern films, it was unique and original, Voraciously original as King said when he talked about it. This film devours you, shows you blood in quantities, throws you into a demonic void with a budget so small that it's surprising they could even rent the cabin for long enough, more so that they managed to release it.
After 40 years it is still a classic that I can see and feel that it is worth watching again, it is impressive how it has aged over time, as I am still surprised by the tricks they used to achieve the shots, the very elaborate dolls, and the BLOOD, many liters of fake blood.
Time goes by and I still enjoy watching the book of the dead burn, from the depths of my being I recommend watching it to those who do not know it and enjoy the "Deadites" that appear in it, and to those who saw it previously I recommend watching it again.

Existen pocos filmes que tuvieron lo que tuvo The Evil Dead(1981), en parte por que rara la vez se ve la tripleta perfecta de un elenco dispuesto, un director emergente y mucho humor negro en el genero de terror en el cinema tipo B.
En otra parte por el como se popularizo y hasta Stephen King la apoyo en su momento, para convertirla en un estreno masivo, tornándolo en un clásico instantáneo a pesar de su escaso presupuesto y un elenco desconocido.
Es uno de esos raros casos donde la opinión popular, los críticos y la forma en la que fue estrenada ayudo a hacerlo un gran filme. The Evil Dead tuvo una gran bendición que nadie vio venir, quizás fuera la "fuerza no vista" que esta presente a lo largo de la historia aquella la que identificamos como el villano principal, quizás fue una cantidad de talentos increíbles mezclados detrás del proyecto, como sea fue un clásico de culto que pocas veces ha visto el mundo, solo codeado por otros como Blade Runner, Donnie Darko, Rocky horror show o el Gran Lebowski por decir algunos.
Lo que todos ellos tienen en común(Además de un inesperado éxito) es que siempre son proyectos que tienen grandes amigos, comunidades desconocidas y mucha gente interesada en hacer su mejor esfuerzo durante la filmación, aunque en el caso de The Evil Dead, quizás lo llevaron muy lejos.
Este filme casi fue una tortura para sus actores, las condiciones climáticas eran hostiles, la cabaña era fría y muchas escenas eran grabadas de noche y tenían que apañársela constantemente con defectos en el set ya que tenían un solo carpintero, que también fungió como el principal director de arte del filme.
Además de todos esos factores el director Sam Raimi(Si, el director de la nueva Doctor Strange) constantemente asustaba o enojaba a los actores para que sus expresiones de angustia, dolor, molestia o pánico fueran reales para el filme. Ya saben, trucos para directores emergentes, si no tienes buenos actores, hazlo real y seguro se desempeñaran de maravilla.
Constantemente se ve la duda sobre la realidad de los efectos con un toque de humor negro, ya que aunque hubieran incontables esfuerzos, no podían superar los limites de presupuesto que tenían, constantemente lucharon contra incontables barreras y eso es narrado por todo los actores y el director cuando hablan del film.
El estreno llega y nadie en el elenco podía creer que llenaran una sola sala de cine, ni mucho menos que hubiera casi mil personas en espera para ver el filme(Como extraño poder ir al cine, cosas post Covid-19), fue una total sorpresa. Eso llevo al Director a reconsiderar y buscar una manera para convertir el filme en un hit sorpresa.
El amor del elenco es notable en la obra y mi amor por la misma la deja entre mis películas favoritas, fue Gore antes de que ser gore fuera común, fue sorpresiva antes de que los screamers fueran abusados como en las películas modernas, fue única y original, Vorazmente original como dijo King cuando hablo de ella. Este filme te devora, te muestra sangre en cantidades, te lanza a un vacío demoniaco con un presupuesto tan pequeño que sorprende que siquiera pudieran alquilar la cabaña por el tiempo suficiente, mas aun que de hecho lograran estrenarla.
Luego de 40 años aun sigue siendo un clásico que puedo ver y sentir que vale la pena volver a verlo, es impresionante el como ha envejecido a lo largo del tiempo, en como me sigue sorprendiendo los trucos que usaron para lograr las tomas, los muñecos muy elaborados y la SANGRE, muchísimos litros de sangre falsa.
Pasa el tiempo y aun disfruto el ver el libro de los muertos arder, desde lo mas profundo de mi ser les recomiendo verla a aquellos que no la conozcan y disfruten de los "Muertitos" que en ella aparecen y a aquellos que la vieron previamente les recomiendo volverla a ver.
