In the cinematic journey that the famous character of Hannibal Lecter has had, we must point to his major debut at the hands of Anthony Hopkins and Jonathan Demme in The Silence of the Lambs(1991) as the main anchor of the cinematic construction behind It.
With a total of four novels, five films, and a TV series, our love for the stories of this notorious psychopath are far from over, although it seems that his main story has finally ceased.
Thomas Harris based Lecter on the killer Dr. Alfredo Ballí Treviño, for which he only took things things from his modus operandi such as the elegance and ability to kill using a scalpel. But the most known of it's characteristic was absent in Dr. Alfredo, cannibalism.
En el viaje cinematográfico que ha tenido el famoso personaje de Hannibal Lecter, hemos de señalar su gran debut a manos de Anthony Hopkins y Jonathan Demme en "El silencio de los inocentes(1991)" como el anclaje principal de la construcción cinematográfica tras dicho viaje.
Con un total de cuatro novelas, cinco filmes y una serie de TV, nuestro amor por las historias de este conocido psicópata esta muy lejos de terminarse si bien parece que finalmente ha cesado su historia principal.
Thomas Harris baso a Lecter en el asesino Dr. Alfredo Ballí Treviño, para ello solo tomo cosas de su modus operandi como la elegancia y habilidad para matar usando un bisturí. Pero lo mas conocido y característico de su personaje estaba ausente en el doctor Alfredo, el canibalismo.
The people eater
Dorangel Vargas, also known as the people eater, is not the greatest example of a renowned anthropophagist, nor is he the first image one thinks of when considering such a title, but he is to my mind the best example of a Dr. Lecter-style monster.
He is an anthropophagus by taste and flavor, someone who does it for the gastronomy in it, who does not want to stop being one, and who has expressed it repeatedly. To the point of specifying about flavors: "Men are tastier, they taste rough, like salted pork or ham, ..., women are sweet, it's like eating flowers, ..., it's as if you haven't eaten."
The best cuts of human meat according to him, "I preferably cook the belly of my dead, because there you find the most exquisite flavors." And of course his decision to distribute the meat of his victims among the needed, who were unaware that it was human meat saying: "As the church says".
Provided by labarraespaciadora a local newspaper, in their latest interview with Dorangel, I dare not to approach this man.
El comegente
Dorángel Vargas, también conocido como el come gente, no es el mayor ejemplo de un antropófago de renombre, tampoco es la primera imagen que uno piensa al considerar dicho titulo, pero es a mi parecer el mejor ejemplo de un monstruo al mejor estilo del Dr. Lecter.
Es un antropófago por gusto y sabor, alguien que lo hace por la gastronomía en ello, que no desea dejar de serlo y que lo ha expresado en reiteradas ocasiones. Al punto de especificar sobre sabores: “Los hombres son más sabrosos, saben recio, como cerdo salado o jamón, ..., las mujeres son dulces, es como comer flores, ..., es como si no hubieses comido”.
Los mejores cortes de carne humana según el, “Yo cocino preferiblemente la panza de mis muerticos, porque ahí se encuentran los sabores más exquisitos.” Y claro su decisión de repartir la carne de sus victimas entre los mas necesitados, quienes ignoraban que era carne humana diciendo: "Como la iglesia dice".
The devil on the details
Being so gastronomic as a serial killer, it is inevitable that he was nicknamed as the "Andean Hannibal Lecter" in an instant, however, the nickname that characterized him was "The people eater", all the mentioned quotes are present in this wonderful work Portrait of a Cannibal, along with my favorite quote: "It was out of necessity".
By the year 2012, a local newspaper managed to interview him and in it he said these dark words "I would eat meat again, miss, that's what Im good for", which only four years later he would manage to come true during a riot where two inmates supposedly died by his hands and were prepared for lunch along with some rice according to other inmates.

Al ser tan gastronómico como asesino serial, es inevitable que fuera apodado como el "Hannibal Lecter Andino" en un instante, sin embargo el apodo que lo caracterizo fue "el comegente", todas las citas mencionadas están presentes en esta maravillosa obra Retrato de un canibal, junto a mi cita favorita: "Fue por necesidad".
Para el año 2012 un periódico local logro entrevistarle y en la misma dijo estas oscuras palabras "Volvería a comer carne, señorita, que para eso es que sirvo yo", que tan solo cuatro años después lograría volver realidad durante un motín donde dos reos supuesta mente murieron por sus manos y fueron preparados de almuerzo junto a un poco de arroz según otros reos.
The silence of the lambs
Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a psychiatrist and expert deconstructor of his victims, enjoys the exquisite art of psychological torture throughout the film. We witness in the silence of the lambs, how he works the future agent Clarice Starling and molds her to think like him, like them, like a psychopath.
In this way throughout the film he provokes, assaults surround, and pressure her to become the tool he wants her to be, exposing the potential she already had inherent in her. He casts her as his ultimate work of art, as his greatest psychological victim.
El silencio de los corderos
El doctor Hannibal Lecter, un psiquiatra y experto deconstructor de sus victimas, disfruta del exquisito arte de la tortura psicológica a lo largo del filme. Presenciamos en el silencio de los inocentes, el como labora a la futura agente Clarice Starling y moldea para que piense como el, como ellos, como un psicopata.
De esta manera a lo largo del filme la provoca, asalta, rodea y presiona para que ella se transforme en la herramienta que el desea que sea, exponiendo el potencial que ya ella tenia inherente. El la moldea como su ultima obra de arte, como su mayor victima psicológica.
Let's take for a moment the character of Clarise, played by the fantastic Jodie Foster, as evidence of someone who not only overcame social classes, gender role constructs, and other pressures in law enforcement agencies to become a diamond on her own.
Hannibal took that example of self-improvement and a strong female character and pressured her to turn her potential as a diamond into a diamond scalpel and point it at other killers, turning her into a killer ready to shoot to kill amid their confrontation, as she demonstrated in the film's finale.
Tomemos un momento el personaje de Clarise, interpretado por la fantástica Jodie Foster, como evidencia de alguien que no solo supero las clases sociales, los costructos de roles de genero y demás presiones en los organismos de policia para convertirse en un diamante por si sola.
Hannibal tomo ese ejemplo de superación personal y de un fuerte personaje femenino y le presiono para que el diamante se convierta en un bisturí de diamante y lo apunta a otros asesinos, la convierte a ella en una asesina lista para disparar a matar en el medio de su enfrentamiento, como demostró en el final del filme.
To then come back to destroy her with her past traumas, the way he instills fear in her with a single phone call is terrifying and still raises the hairs behind the back of my neck.
Hannibal is a masterpiece of character development and a true serial killer who does it for the sick taste of the flavors he gets from the meat, and in the case of Clarise. The pure terror she expresses to him, in the style of Dorangel Vargas, who according to the other inmates, told the two inmates he killed during the riot, that they would be a tasty Creole pavilion for months to before killing them.
Para luego regresar a destruirla con sus traumas del pasado, la manera en la que instila miedo en ella con una sola llamada telefónica es aterradora y aun me levanta los pelos detrás de la nuca.
Hannibal es una obra maestra del desarrollo narrativo de un personaje y la muestra de un verdadero asesino serial que lo hace por el enfermo gusto de los sabores que obtiene de la carne y en el caso de Clarise, el terror puro que ella le expresa, al mas puro estilo de Dorángel Vargas, quien según dicen los otros reos, les dijo a los dos reos que asesino durante el motín, que serian un sabroso pabellón criollo, durante meses.
