Ti Wets' trilogy culminates
Culmina la trilogía de Ti Wets.
Ti West has delivered. With the release of Maxxine, the trilogy that began a couple of years ago with film X comes to a close. The first film was quite entertaining. I liked it a lot and I knew they had made a sequel which was released the same year. For me X was a homage to the horror films of the seventies. There were a lot of references to a type of film that was very popular and West did very well.
Pearl, the second film, was a prequel, and the filmmaker made a very different product to X. Anyone expecting something similar was surprised by this excellent film in which Mia Goth shines with her performance. I thought it would be nominated for major awards, but only the Chicago Critics Association considered the actress.
With Maxxine we had to wait longer. The creator has said he always had a trilogy in mind. Ti West has a talent for this genre, and I was anxious to see how he would close the story. I knew he would offer us something different from the previous two. Maxxine seems a step down from the other films, but as promised, it would be a journey in the style of the 80s films.

A mi me gustó mucho y sabía que habían hecho una secuela que se estrenó el mismo año. Para mí X era un homenaje al cine de terror de los setenta. Había muchas referencias a un tipo de cine que era muy popular y a West le fue muy bien.
Pearl, la segunda película, era una precuela y el cineasta hizo un producto muy diferente a X. Quien esperara algo parecido, se sorprendió con esta excelente película en la que Mia Goth brilla con su interpretación. Pensaba que sería nominada a los grandes premios, pero sólo la Asociación de Críticos de Chicago tuvo en cuenta a la actriz.
Con Maxxine tuvimos que esperar más tiempo. El creador ha dicho que siempre tuvo en mente una trilogía. Ti West tiene talento para este género, y yo estaba ansioso por ver cómo cerraría la historia. The story takes place a couple of years after the events of the end of X. Maxine Minx is still focused on becoming a movie star. Her work in adult films may be holding her back, but she has a chance to fulfil her dreams if she gets the part in a horror movie. What she doesn't know is that someone from her past will jeopardise her path to fame and she's not about to give up and will take whoever it is with her.
Set in 1980s Hollywood, its meta-universe pays homage and nods to horror classics. The inclusion in the context of the Night Stalker, a notorious serial killer who terrorised during the era when he committed his murders, acts as a backdrop to add a touch of suspense.
The music is important, it reminded me of many films I used to rent from the video store. The director constructs a story that could easily have been a straight-to-video product in the past. The aesthetics and story is also a carbon copy of any weird horror or murder movie you might rent for a weekend and enjoy with friends.
La historia tiene lugar un par de años después de los acontecimientos del final de X. Maxine Minx sigue centrada en convertirse en una estrella de cine. Puede que su trabajo en películas para adultos le esté impidiendo llegar a lo más alto, pero tendrá la oportunidad de cumplir sus sueños si consigue el papel en una película de terror. Lo que no sabe es que alguien de su pasado pondrá en peligro su camino hacia la fama y ella no está dispuesta a rendirse y se llevará a quien sea con ella.
Ambientada en el Hollywood de los ochenta, su metauniverso homenajea y hace guiños a clásicos del terror. The end result is entertaining, met my expectations and brings closure to the story. Maxine had to settle her debts to her past and it was to be seen whether she achieved her goal of becoming a star or succumbed in the attempt.
When the cast was announced, this is another element that caught my attention. Some of them play rather small characters. Kevin Bacon plays a nasty private eye who stumbles upon the wrong girl. Giancarlo Esposito left Los Pollos Hermanos to become a porn producer. Michelle Monaghan and Bobby Cannavale are detectives who want to solve the murders and the beautiful Elisabeth Dibicki is a tough horror film director. Lilly Collins and Halsey also have small but important roles in the plot.
Mia Goth has done a lot of work in recent years, after X and its sequel she has been seen in other interesting productions and has established herself in the genre. Here she shows again her artistic skills, there are a couple of scenes that I liked a lot, her monologue in the casting is one of them. It should be remembered that here she is Maxine, the girl who had to survive those old X-killers. She tells herself she's a star and she won't rest until she gets it, whatever it takes.

El resultado final es entretenido, cumplió mis expectativas y aporta un cierre a la historia. Maxine tenía que saldar sus deudas con su pasado y había que ver si lograba su objetivo de convertirse en una estrella o sucumbía en el intento.
Cuando se anunció el reparto, es otro elemento que me llamó la atención. Algunos de ellos interpretan personajes más bien pequeños. Kevin Bacon interpreta a un desagradable detective privado que se topara con la chica equivocada. Giancarlo Esposito dejó Los Pollos Hermanos para ser productor porno. Michelle Monaghan y Bobby Cannavale son detectives que quieren resolver los asesinatos y la bella Elisabeth Dibicki es una dura directora de cine de terror. Lilly Collins y Halsey también tienen papeles pequeños pero importantes en la trama.
Mia Goth ha trabajado mucho en los últimos años, después de X y su secuela se la ha visto en otras producciones interesantes y se ha consolidado en el género. Aquí vuelve a demostrar sus dotes artísticas, hay un par de escenas que me gustaron mucho, su monólogo en el casting es una de ellas. Hay que recordar que aquí ella es Maxine, la mis aque tuvo que sobrevivir a esos viejos asesinos en X. Se dice a sí misma que es una estrella y no descansará hasta conseguirlo, cueste lo que cueste.
