Hello friends, good vibes to all.
For today I bring you a series that I just finished watching a couple of days ago and the truth is that saying that it impressed me is not enough for what this series caused in me at the time I was watching it. There have been 2 series that have made me squirm out of my chair because of how uncomfortable they are in certain passages, The Handmaids Tale and Them, of which I'm going to talk a little.
Making horror series or movies is something that I consider extremely complicated because it is a difficult genre to please its fans, there have been very few productions that have really achieved their purpose of imparting terror to its viewers and I think this series can be one of them. I am a horror lover and I tell you that there are very few things that are really worth watching but "THEM" managed to move that ounce of fear/discomfort/desperation that one expects to be present with this genre. Without further ado, let's see what this strange story is all about...
- Resumen // Summary.
We are in a story which is set in the 50's in the United States, more specifically in an area in California with several "flashbacks" of North Carolina, where an African American family decides to move to this residential neighborhood which has the particularity that it is completely white. As you know in those years racism was an evil that tormented many people and in this series this suffering is very noticeable.
This family, the Emory's, make the decision to leave their lives behind due to several dark and traumatic events, to arrive in Los Angeles where a false perfection of an ideal life awaits them. What they don't know is that when they arrive they begin to realize that things are not going as they should and everything starts to become dangerous and strange.
Far from having a healthy relationship and a good coexistence with the neighbors of that neighborhood, the Emory's will have to face the incessant racism of which they are objects accompanied with violent actions of all kinds. But the thing is that this torment does not come only from the residents of those pastel-colored houses, but in the depths of the house of this family live supernatural forces and full of evil that seems to be lurking to fulfill their goals wherever they go.
- Opinion.
Horror is something that is incredibly present in this series, it is a story that is able to take us down paths that are crazy because it is a terror that comes from the depths of each character, that is, it is that which is produced in their minds whether you are asleep or not. Besides, it is notorious the similarities with the work of Stephen King and, of course, with more recent productions such as "US" or "Get Out".
Another element that is well cared for is the aesthetics and thanks to it we will feel part of this story and we will live and suffer everything that this family unfortunately had to go through. When I say that it is an uncomfortable series is because it is really one of those that is a little hard to watch because of all the injustices and mistreatment that are present throughout its 10 chapters.
Of course, all this goes hand in hand with a historical and social context so that we can really understand how these characters develop. Characters that have very marked their roles and each one has a different problem or trauma and how they live it is the center of this series; and I think this is by the hand of the director because it is through the use of a paranormal element that manages to reflect and project all these internal dramas.
The characters in general are very well crafted as each of them fulfill their role which is none other than being totally despicable and racist, you know they are believable and outstanding performances when one as a viewer feels a certain "hate" for them. Nothing to say about the main characters, Luck (Deborah Ayorinde), Betty (Alison Pill), Henry (Ashley Thomas) with memorable and very heartfelt performances that the truth is that by watching them you know the great work behind each scene.
In conclusion we are facing a very explicit series that I would dare to say that it is not for everyone as it presents very hard scenes and situations. I would also say that more than a series of ghosts and demons, which it has, it is a series that goes a little towards the social showing without any shame the origin of a problem that unfortunately today is still making a lot of noise in the world.
A serie more than recommended for all those horror lovers who want a good story, consists of 10 episodes with a duration of varied between 35 and 50 minutes per chapter and you can get it on Amazon Prime. 9.5/10 because there were a couple of characters that I would have liked to develop more because the rest, unmissable. I leave you the trailer to get you hooked.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos vemos en la próxima!
Well my people, that's all for today, I hope you liked it and I encourage you to watch this gem of a series.
