Hello friends, good vibes to all.
It's Halloween season and that only means that some of the movies you're going to see have something to do with the theme in question. The last one I told you about was "OLD" and its suspense taken to a much softer level than what we will see today; "Halloween Kills" came to recall that epic movie from more than 40 years ago where we saw for the first time the nefarious Michael Myers.
We are clear that the 78 movie "Halloween" is one of great cult and veneration even today and that film was something that caused a revolution in the world of cinema with its "SLASHER" style that at that time was not so common. I confess that I'm not a big fan of this kind of movies where blood and excessive violence are the protagonists but being a classic like this I could not overlook it and I decided to see it. My impressions? - Well, let's go to them...
Do not be fooled into thinking that you are going to get a different story from the original because it will not be like that, it is the same but with much more "gore" than most of its predecessors. It is the psychopath who chases everything that moves to kill it without any remorse or contemplation and is also very obsessed with Laurie Strode, one of his victims who managed to escape from his hands a few years ago.
In this new installment we have a Myers returning to the Strode's house but this time we see that they were over prepared to receive their guest and what a welcome they gave him. They managed to lock him in their basement so that the fire would consume him but in the end, as usual, he manages to escape and then begin his killing spree throughout the town of Haddonfield.
After that confrontation, Laurie is admitted to the hospital and upon realizing that the nightmare has not ended, the whole town comes to their senses and unites to put an end to Myers' monster. Laurie is played by Jamie Lee Curtis who is the common thread of this story that has more than four decades. In this film we see her a little less and is that logically the years pass but the intensity and desire for revenge are multiplied to the nth degree so what we do not see in action we can appreciate in despair.
The film is everything you expect to find but in my opinion well made and well carried out. The effects, the characteristic Dantesque scenes and even the photography are things that are well done, that is to say, there is an excellent production work behind that fulfilled this risky genre. And it is precisely that, we are facing a pure horror film where the obvious and common sense may be missing but the genre is like that, you see a scene and you feel anguish because you know that the obvious is going to happen.
This type of horror according to me is not to be scared but rather to enjoy it, I am sure that lovers of this type of stories would have liked to see liters and liters of blood accompanied by human body parts everywhere. I repeat, I am not a fan but out of obligation I took the task of watching it and the truth is that I was pleased with everything because it was exactly what I expected but in good quality.
In the end it is a classic and as such we must respect them as much as possible, Carpenter's 78 film, the original, was very well honored in this opportunity by its director David Gordon Green. And another of the things that caught my attention was the psychological game that was shown where we see a people out of their minds being, without knowing it, victims of the genuine evil of Myers.
And that is Michael's legacy, to create fear and suffering in everyone, both physical and psychological, being impossible to escape from either of them. In short, a film that for some will end up being more of the same but for others will be another decent installment of this legendary saga. With a score of 7.5 I rate this film that has it all, a good plot, good suspense, lots of gore and also appeals a little to the nostalgia of classic movies.
