🎬 The Invasion(2007) | Movie Review

Nowadays, I decided to watch a movie once a week. I used to watch a movie every 2 days because I had time and I enjoyed it a lot. Since, I need some time away from the screen and I don't like to look at the screen except for my work. Today I wanted to watch a movie and I asked my girlfriend if she could recommend me a movie. She recommended me the movie "The Invasion". I didn't know before watching the movie that I would be so moved by it, but I will talk about it more often later. Let's review some movies!

Introduction

The movie was released in 2007 and I learned from @jcrodriguez on discord that there are 5 versions of the movie and this is not even the best one. At his suggestion, I added the 90s version to my list. I don't want to watch it back to back, that would be too boring and would prevent me from enjoying the movie. IMDB score is 5.9 and that's not very good. But it's still worth giving it a chance.

Description

The genre of the movie is Science Fiction and Thriller. I can guarantee you that you will get a lot of tension while watching this movie. At one point I felt the need to go to the kitchen and drink water. Anyway, the movie stars Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig. Daniel Craig gave an average performance in my eyes but Nicole Kidman's performance in this movie is perfect for me. She conveys all the emotions so well that sometimes I forgot that this is a movie.

To start the movie, Carol, played by Nicole Kidman, is a psychologist. Wait, wait, I shouldn't start from here. As the movie starts, a spaceship falls from the sky to the earth and pieces of it are scattered over a very large area. People go and touch them, but there's something they don't know. A micro-organism from space has infected the spaceship and this organism infects humans through contact. Its specialty is that it destroys people's emotions and turns them into robots. This is frankly the thing that worries me the most, but we will talk about it in detail in my thoughts on the movie.

Carol, played by Nicole Kidman, is a psychologist. Her child has had a disease before. I don't know what it stands for, but the disease affects and alters the nerve cells and thus provides immunity against this organism. Of course they don't know this at the beginning of the movie. Nobody knows. Over time, Carol realizes that everyone she sees on the street has become emotionless. By the time she realizes it's the micro-organism, it's too late. Almost half the city has already been taken over and they are doing their best to make normal people like them. Carol's ex-husband even somehow infects Carol, but the virus doesn't activate. Because what it needs to activate is sleep.

During the REM phase of sleep, the virus activates and takes over the body. So basically, if you don't sleep, the virus cannot infect you. But how long can you stay awake? Carol stays awake for quite a long time for her son Oliver and waits for her lover Ben to save her. Ben is performed by Daniel Craig. Unfortunately, by the time Ben arrives, he has been taken over by the organism and he tries to convince her to go to sleep. This is one of the parts that impressed me the most. Ben says that the world is in a terrible state right now, poverty, war and pollution have taken over the world. Come over to our side and let's put an end to it. Carol is convinced but she has only one thing on her mind. What about her child who is immune to this organism? Ben tells her there is no place for him in this world and they try to kill him. Of course Carol doesn't let them and they escape with her child. I won't tell the rest of the movie because I don't want to spoil the excitement.

Opinions

resource

I have so many thoughts about the movie that I don't know how to start. First of all, I'll talk about the good things. The movie made me think a lot, which I mentioned on the Movies & TV Shows discord server.
What would it be like if we were really emotionless?
Would that really be a solution to poverty and other problems in the world?
Could such a micro-organism have that effect? I mean, could the movie be real?

I'd be very curious to hear your thoughts on this, so don't forget to let me know in the comments.

Let's talk a little bit about the downsides. Can you charge the phone Carol uses sometime? Throughout the movie she ran around without charging it and it never ran out of battery. It's a small detail but I found it very funny. How did they not think of that?

Conclusions

resource

If you want to be really nervous, you can watch this movie. But I must say that this movie is not for everyone. If it was, it wouldn't have an IMDB score of 5.9. The movie lasts 1 hour and 40 minutes, which is not too long. So sometimes you want to watch a short movie and this is the movie for you.

Directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, I will describe this movie as average and my score is 7 out of 10. As I said, if you have seen this movie before, feel free to write your opinions in the comments. I love discussing this and what people think about the movies I watch. Have a good day everyone, stay with the movie!
