• What is the best movie of your country and why?
• Who are your favorite villains in movies or TV series and why?
I must admit that I would have liked to answer all three, as I am perhaps a compulsive addicted to movies and television shows and I have a lot to tell when it comes to villains, film genres and films from my nation. So, after so much reasoning, I have decided to tell you about my favorite genre of movies. Which? Join me in this post to find out.

¿Cuál es tu villano favorito de películas o series de televisión y por qué?Debo admitir que me hubiera gustado responder las tres, pues soy quizás un compulsivo adicto al cine y los programas de televisión y tengo mucho que contar en cuanto a villanos, géneros cinematográficos y películas de mi nación. Así que, después de tanto razonarlo, he decidido hablarles sobre mi género favorito de películas. ¿Cuál es? Acompañarme en este post a descubrirlo.

The first time I saw a movie that was not animated was when I was 10 years old. My dad had bought a DVD and we were very excited. I remember we turned the living room into a movie theater, made popcorn, turned off the lights, and rolled the movie on the reader. Before us Tom Hanks looked like Forrest Gump. I remember laughing and crying a lot with that movie, so much so that I saw it again 3 more times that same week. From there, I discovered a certain liking for the stories that investigated more in that human side that we all have and in the sometimes harsh, overwhelmed and conflicting circumstances that surrounded it. Although I had a certain liking for fantasy, science fiction and mystery, I knew immediately that my thing was Drama, that genre so vivid and raw that it showed me the closest side to reality.
Drama is my favorite genre because it shows more than perfidious humor and superficial conflict. This genre is complex because it makes visible the internal battle that a character suffers to face his own defects, his complexes, his need to fit into a society that rejects him, his fears, his virtues and his talents. Here, the adventure is a very realistic personal journey. You suffer with the story, with that dramatic need that subjects the characters to bitter, difficult and overwhelmed situations in which sooner or later that compassionate side will emerge in the viewer. You fall in love, because history is very close to you, to what you have suffered, to your victories and defeats.
La primera vez que vi una película que no era animada fue a mis 10 años. Mi papá había comprado un DVD y estábamos muy emocionados. Recuerdo que convertimos la sala de estar en un cine, hicimos palomitas, apagamos las luces y pusimos la película a rodar en el lector. Ante nosotros Tom Hanks se lucía cómo Forrest Gump. Recuerdo haber reído y llorado mucho con aquella película, tanto que la volví a ver 3 veces más esa misma semana. Desde ahí, descubrí un cierto agrado por las historias que indagaban más en ese lado humano que todos tenemos y en las circunstancias a veces duras, atropelladas y conflictivas que lo rodeaban. Aunque tenía cierto agrado por la fantasía, la ciencia ficción y el misterio, supe de inmediato que lo mío era el Drama, ese género tan vívido y crudo que me mostraba el lado más cercano a la realidad.
El Drama es mi género favorito porque muestra más que un humor pérfido y un conflicto superficial. Este género es complejo porque en él se visibiliza la batalla interna que sufre un personaje para enfrentar sus propios defectos, sus complejos, su necesidad en encajar en una sociedad que lo rechaza, sus miedos, sus virtudes y sus talentos. Aquí, la aventura es un viaje personal muy realista. Sufres con la historia, con esa necesidad dramática que somete a los personajes a situaciones amargas, difíciles y atropelladas en las que tarde o temprano ese lado compasivo surgirá en el espectador. Te enamoras, porque la historia es muy cercana a ti, a lo que has sufrido, a tus victorias y derrotas.
Drama is more than cinema, more than two hours of popcorn and entertainment, because the big screen is only a tool to symbolize the recurring conflicts that have marked our personal history and that of the world. Transcendental events such as war, misery, illness, self-improvement, etc., are reincarnated in this genre. It is also my favorite, because it includes subgenres of all types, from dramatic comedy and tragedy to romance and war drama. Who does not remember the Titanic? And to Philadelphia? What about The Hurt Locker?
There have been various films of this genre that have managed to captivate me, but today I will share with you the ones that have won my heart. El drama es más que cine, más que dos horas de palomitas y entretenimiento, porque la gran pantalla solo es una herramienta para simbolizar los recurrentes conflictos que han marcado nuestra historia personal y la del mundo. En este género se reencarnan hechos trascendentales como la guerra, la miseria, la enfermedad, la superación, etcétera. Es mi favorito, además, porque en él concurren subgéneros de todos los tipos, desde la comedia dramática y la tragedia hasta el romance y el drama bélico. ¿Quién no recuerda al Titanic? ¿Y a Filadelfia? ¿Qué hay de The Hurt Locker?
Han sido diversas las películas de este género que han logrado cautivarme, pero hoy compartiré con ustedes las que se han ganado mi corazón. Estas historias reflejan un conflicto que a diario vemos en nuestra sociedad, y dan un mensaje muy profundo que nos invita a reflexionar en cuanto a nuestra conducta, nuestras creencias e ideologías. 04: John Q.
Heartwarming and tragic, this story reveals the most ruthless face of private healthcare systems. The plot follows John Quincy, a man whose son named Michael suffers from a terrible heart condition. John is on the brink of insanity, his little one teeters between life and death, and his insurance doesn't cover the $ 250,000 the hospital requires to get Michael on a list of organ recipients. To do? Why should the system be like this? Isn't life more important than money?
There is no choice, you have to protest at all costs. The gun convinces him even though the idea of him is unhinged. John finally makes up his mind and goes to the hospital, not with the large sum of money, just with a bullet and a gun to detonate it. He takes a few hostages like terrorists do, and demands the prompt attention of his son. It is not fair that health rights are violated in this way. Only the rich have the right to live? Conmovedora y trágica, está historia te devela la cara más despiadada de los sistemas de salud privados. El argumento sigue a John Quincy, un hombre cuyo hijo llamado Michael padece una terrible patología en el corazón. John está al borde de la locura, su pequeño se tambalea entre la vida y muerte y su seguro no cubre los 250000 dólares que exige el hospital para ingresar a Michael a una lista de receptores de órganos. ¿Qué hacer? ¿Por qué el sistema debe ser así? ¿A caso no es la vida más importante que el dinero?
No hay elección, hay que protestar a toda costa. La pistola lo convence aunque su idea es desquiciada. John al fin se decide y parte al hospital, no con la gran suma de dinero, solo con una bala y un arma para detonarla. Toma unos cuantos rehenes como lo hacen los terroristas, y demanda la pronta atención de su hijo. No es justo que el derecho salud sea ultrajado de esta manera. ¿Solo los ricos tienen derecho a vivir? No para John, no para su hijo. Él solo es un padre desesperado, uno que exige algo de misericordia así le cueste la vida obtenerla.
I suffered with John throughout this movie. It was the shortest 118 minutes of my life. At some point in history you begin to despair over the difficulties he faces to save his son, and for this reason he is treated as the worst of criminals. We see a health system that cares little about life, rather they monetize that right. The conflict goes beyond John, because it reflects the multitude of people who suffer from similar circumstances.
My favorite scene is when John decides to commit suicide to save his son. It is the only way after a long battle against the system. At least the little one will live and that is what really matters to this father. The gun to his temple misses on the first try. It was an oversight, the gun still had the safety on. On the second attempt the pistol is unlikely to miss, but an external reason may prevent the tragic outcome. John circles the trigger, ready to embrace death. Some footsteps are heard, his wife wants to prevent him from doing something crazy like that, will he succeed?
Sufrí junto a John durante toda esta película. Fueron los 118 minutos más cortos de mi vida. En algún momento de la historia empiezas a desesperarte por las dificultades que enfrenta este para salvar a su hijo, y por tal razón es tratado como el peor de los criminales. Vemos un sistema de salud al que poco le importa la vida, más bien monetizan ese derecho. El conflicto va más allá de John, porque en él se refleja la multitud de personas que padecen circunstancias similares.
Mi escena favorita es cuando John decide suicidarse para salvar a su hijo. Es la única manera después de una larga batalla contra el sistema. Al menos, el pequeño vivirá y eso es lo que realmente importa para este padre. La pistola sobre su sien falla al primer intento. Fue un descuido, el arma todavía tenía el seguro. Al segundo intento la pistola no tiene las probabilidades de fallar, pero una razón externa puede evitar el trágico desenlace. John rodea el gatillo, dispuesto a abrazar a la muerte. Unas pisadas se escuchan, su esposa quiere evitar que él haga una locura como esa ¿lo logrará?
This drama brings out everything a father can do for his son. Denzel Washington's iconic performance will make your hair stand on end. The story is a critique of the indifferent American health care system, something very well developed by its screenwriter James Kearns and its director Nick Cassavetes. Without a doubt, a good movie to meet the most embodied side of parenthood.
Este drama saca a relucir todo lo que puede hacer un padre por su hijo. La icónica actuación de Denzel Washington te hará poner los pelos de punta. La historia es una crítica al indiferente sistema de salud estadounidense, algo muy bien desarrollado por parte de su guionista James Kearns y su director Nick Cassavetes. Sin duda, una buena película para encontrarnos con el lado más encarnado de la paternidad.
03: The Help

Over there in Jackson, Mississippi, you will meet Aibileen Clark and Minny Jackson, two women who have worked as domestic workers their entire lives. Under racist and unequal schemes, both have dealt with many problems to get ahead in a place full of prejudices. Surrounded by a totally arrogant and supremacist white society, these two friends turn their experiences acquired in each of their jobs as their best weapon when Eugenia Skeeter, a recently graduated journalist, asks them to relate their experiences to show the world the sad reality of the Afro-descendant women who work as domestic workers.
The Help is a beautiful story that shows the struggle of a blatantly enslaved class. In the 1960s, when the rise of Martin Luther King was celebrating the streets, we immerse ourselves in the life of Aibileen, an Afro-descendant who has raised a lot of white children for much of her life. She has lost her child, and only her labor and the affection of children outside her can comfort her. Aibileen is the best friend of Minny, another domestic worker with an unusual taste for fried chicken and chocolate tarts. Both are humiliated by their employers, they even have a separate bathroom just for them for fear that they will spread some germ. After Skeeter appeared in her lives with an interesting proposal to unleash all the secrets of her bosses, they both embark under the path of anonymity to raise their voices against so much discrimination. Between revenges, dismissals and clandestine meetings, their stories intersect like an indestructible fabric of ink and paper: A book is usually powerful when it reveals many truths.
Por allá en Jackson, Misisipi, te encontrarás a Aibileen Clark y Minny Jackson, dos mujeres que han trabajado como domésticas durante toda su vida. Bajo esquemas racistas y desigualitarios, ambas han lidiado con muchos problemas para salir adelante en un lugar repleto de prejuicios. Rodeadas de una sociedad blanca totalmente arrogante y supremacista, estás dos amigas convierten sus experiencias adquiridas en cada uno de sus trabajos como su mejor arma cuando Eugenia Skeeter, una periodista recién graduada les pide que relaten sus vivencias para mostrar al mundo la triste realidad de las mujeres afrodescendientes que se desempeñan como trabajadoras domésticas.
Historias Cruzadas es una hermosa historia que muestra la lucha de una clase esclavizada de forma descarada. En los años 60, cuando el auge de Martín Luther King agasajaba las calles, nos sumergimos en la vida de Aibileen, una afrodescendiente que ha criado a un montón de niños blancos durante gran parte de su vida. Ha perdido a su hijo, y solo su trabajo y el cariño de niños ajenos pueden consolarla. Aibileen es la mejor amiga de Minny, otra trabajadora doméstica con un inusual gusto por el pollo frito y las tartas de chocolates. I loved the performance of Octavia Spencer, Viola Davis, and Emma Stone. These three actresses formed a perfect triangle. You really saw them as friends, as women who shared more than secrets and experiences. Tate Taylor was able to adapt the original story of Kathryn Stockett, showing in a very crude way the sad reality of African-American society in the United States, especially in women. I loved the fact of seeing empowered women, who despite being so hurt had a courage and humility very different from the ignorance of their bosses. Here, the drama is somewhat tragic as far as feelings are concerned. We see domestic workers loving children who were not theirs, taking care of them as if they were their mothers, so that in the end they barely received a salary and miserable treatment as gratitude.
Me encantó la actuación de Octavia Spencer, Viola Davis y Emma Stone. Estas tres actrices formaron un triángulo perfecto. Realmente las veías como amigas, como mujeres que compartían más que secretos y experiencias. Tate Taylor supo adaptar la historia original de Kathryn Stockett, mostrando de una forma muy cruda la triste realidad de la sociedad afroamericana en los estados unidos, sobre todo en las mujeres. Me encantó el hecho de ver a mujeres empoderadas, las cuales a pesar de ser tan lastimadas tenían un coraje y una humildad muy diferente a la ignorancia de sus jefas. Aquí, el drama es algo trágico en cuanto a sentimientos se refiere. Vemos a trabajadoras domésticas amando a niños que non eran suyos, cuidándolos como si fueran sus madres, para que al final de cuentas apenas recibieran un sueldo y trato mísero como gratitud.

02: The Pursuit of Happyness
En busca de la felicidad
To achieve happiness you must first embrace sadness. That message is exposed in Chris Gardner, a man whose luck played badly and left him without money and without a wife. Hopeful for the company of his son, little Christopher, Chris must undergo an ordeal of life to climb back to prosperity. Living between subways, shelters and streets, with the only profit that blood donation can bring him, this father will have to manage to get ahead even when he is rejected by his own success. He does not give up, and uses his insistence and common sense not to give up hope. Chris knows that he can't give up, let alone prove his failure.
This movie is emotional and inspiring. Chris is the most shocking example of how tough life can be when the roads seem to be closing in on us. However, if we analyze the character, we will notice that his happiness went beyond success. He just wanted to make his son feel good every night and every day, in so many different ways even though they lived on the streets and had empty pockets. It was a more personal search, a lesson that invites us to smile even if we don't have a penny. Chris did it perfectly, he even gave his boss 5 dollars for a taxi even knowing that that was the little money he had left. That certainly makes you reflect on the fact of transmitting our hardships. He was going through a very difficult financial situation, however to the rest of the world he was still the same kind, eloquent and humble Chris as always.
Para alcanzar la felicidad primero debes abrazar la tristeza. Ese mensaje está expuesto en Chris Gardner, un hombre al que la suerte le jugó mal y lo dejo sin dinero y sin esposa. Esperanzado por la compañía de su hijo, el pequeño Christopher, Chris debe someterse a una dura prueba de vida para volver a escalar nuevamente a la prosperidad. Esta película es emotiva e inspiradora. Chris es el ejemplo más impactante de lo dura que puede ser la vida cuando los caminos parecen cerrarse para nosotros. Sin embargo, si analizamos al personaje, notaremos que su felicidad iba más allá del éxito. Él solo quería hacer sentir bien a su hijo cada noche y cada día, de muchas maneras diferentes a pesar de que vivían en las calles y tenía los bolsillos vacíos. Era una búsqueda más personal, una lección que nos invita a sonreír aunque no tengamos ningún centavo. Chris lo hacía a la perfección, incluso le dio 5 dólares a su jefe para un taxi aun sabiendo que ese era el poco dinero que le quedaba. Eso sin duda te hace reflexionar sobre el hecho de transmitir nuestras penurias. Will Smith and his son Jaden Smith revealed two great and very charismatic characters. The story is based on real events, more specifically the now billionaire Chris Gardner. Chris's drama encompasses those themes of overcoming and adversity, of defeat and the hard road to victory. Happiness is a misunderstood concept if you analyze it correctly. To feel particularly happy, we just have to look around us and cling to the hope of those who trust us. Chris was happy with his son, thanks to him he had more than one reason not to give up.
Will Smith y su hijo Jaden Smith nos develaron a dos grandes y muy carismáticos personajes. La historia está basada en hechos reales, más concretamente del ahora multimillonario Chris Gardner. El drama de Chris abarca esos temas de la superación y las adversidades, de la derrota y el duro camino a la victoria. La felicidad es un concepto mal entendido si lo analizas correctamente. Para sentirnos particularmente felices solo debemos mirar a nuestro alrededor y aferrarnos a la esperanza de los que confían en nosotros. Chris era feliz junto a su hijo, gracias a él tenía más de una razón para no rendirse.

01: Forrest Gump
Finally, at number 1 we have Forrest Gump, one of the most symbolic dramatic films I have seen. Forrest, that character sitting on the bench at a bus stop, with an elegant white suit and some chocolates resting on his legs. His story is heard by several passersby who were waiting for the bus or simply resting after a long walk. Somewhat retarded but very eloquent, Forrest is a man who has spent his entire life running, or rather his life is a race of his own.
Since he was a child he has only longed to be with Jenny, that blonde girl as beautiful as she is elusive. Every aspect of Forrest's life is framed by a great event, from the Vietnam War to the death of John Lennon and the birth of Apple. We are facing a person who has traveled all possible paths, who has stood out as the best of his range and has earned the position as one of the best riders in history. How did someone so seemingly clumsy accomplish such feats?
Finalmente, en el puesto número 1 tenemos a Forrest Gump, una de las películas dramáticas más simbólicas que he visto. Forrest, ese personaje sentado en el banco de una parada de bus, con un elegante traje blanco y unos bombones reposando en sus piernas. Su historia es escuchada por varios transeúntes que esperaban el bus o simplemente descansaban después de una larga caminata. Algo retrasado aunque muy elocuente, Forrest es un hombre que ha pasado toda su vida corriendo, o más bien su vida es una propia carrera.
Desde niño solo ha anhelado estar junto a Jenny, esa chica rubia tan hermosa como escurridiza. Cada aspecto de la vida de Forrest se enmarca por un gran acontecimiento, desde la guerra de Vietnam hasta la muerte de John Lennon y el nacimiento de Apple. Estamos ante una persona que ha transitado por todos los caminos posibles, que ha destacado como el mejor de su rango y se ha ganado el puesto como uno de los mejores corredores de la historia. ¿Cómo es que alguien tan aparentemente torpe logró tales hazañas?
I still remember that “Run Forrest! Runs!" that Jenny screamed as a child. Poor Forrest ripped his braces to pieces trying not to get hit by bullies. From there, the races kept popping up, just under different circumstances. He ran until he was tired of doing so, he only wanted to go home because his exhaustion went beyond the physical. Jenny fled from him much of the time, but that void could be filled by great friends like Bubba and Lieutenant Dan. Forrest does not see the world with materialistic, spiteful or selfish eyes, such a characteristic makes him special and unique.
The film contrasts the drama with some comedy and adventure, although without going overboard with satires. There is also something romance, one more platonic than unconditional. Jenny and Forrest are seldom able to consolidate that love, perhaps because only one of them yearned for it while the other party has far too different interests, at least with him. The story begins with Jenny and follows the rhythm of her with Jenny, she is the thread that ties everything. When they are finally together, the thread has worn so much that it ends up disappearing. There is another reason now for Forrest to continue with his life, no longer with racing because he doesn't need to run away from anything. Now two little eyes are part of his, eyes that are the last living memory of what Jenny ever meant to him.
Aún recuerdo ese “¡Corre Forrest! ¡Corre!” que Jenny gritó de niña. El pobre Forrest despedazó sus aparatos ortopédicos tratando de no ser alcanzado por la paliza de los bravucones. Desde ahí, las carreras siguieron apareciendo, solo que en circunstancias distintas. Él corrió hasta que se cansó de hacerlo, ya únicamente deseaba volver a casa porque su agotamiento iba más allá de lo físico. Jenny huyó de él gran parte del tiempo, pero ese vacío pudieron ocuparlo grandes amistades como Bubba y el teniente Dan. Forrest no ve el mundo con ojos materialistas, rencorosos o egoístas, tal característica lo hace especial y único.
La película contrasta el drama con algo de comedia y aventura, aunque sin pasar extremo de las sátiras. También hay algo romance, uno más platónico que incondicional. Jenny y Forrest pocas veces pueden consolidar ese amor, tal vez porque solo uno de ellos lo anhelaba mientras que la otra parte tiene unos intereses demasiados distintos, al menos con él. La historia comienza con Jenny y sigue su ritmo con Jenny, ella es el hilo que lo ata todo. Cuando al fin están juntos, el hilo se ha gastado tanto que termina por desaparecer. Hay otra razón ahora para que Forrest continúe con su vida, ya no con carreras porque no necesita huir de nada. Ahora dos pequeños ojos forman parte de los suyos, unos ojos que son el último recuerdo viviente de lo que alguna vez Jenny significó para él.

Drama is the closest door to the inner conflict of humanity. Through 4 films I showed the battle that at some point in our lives we face to survive, to win and stand out despite the fact that we have everything against it: A father who is capable of facing everything to save his son, three women who fight to show the harsh system of racism, a man who does not give up despite adversity and a runner who knows when to stop. Martin Scorsese himself once said a phrase that still remains in my mind today:
“Movies touch our hearts, awaken our vision, and change the way we see things. They take us to other places. They open doors and minds for us. Movies are the memories of our life. We have to stay alive ”.
El Drama es la puerta cercana al conflicto interno de la humanidad. A través de 4 películas mostré la batalla a la que en algún momento de nuestras vidas nos enfrentamos para sobrevivir, para vencer y destacar a pesar de que tenemos todo en contra: Un padre que es capaz de enfrentarse a todo por salvar a su hijo, tres mujeres que luchan para mostrar el duro sistema del racismo, un hombre que no desiste a pesar de las adversidades y un corredor que sabe cuándo detenerse. El mismísimo Martín Scorsese dijo una vez una frase que hoy aún se mantiene en mi mente:
“Las películas tocan nuestros corazones, despiertan nuestra visión, y cambian nuestra forma de ver las cosas. Nos llevan a otros lugares. Nos abren las puertas y las mentes. Las películas son los recuerdos de nuestra vida. Tenemos que seguir con vida”.
