Hello my Hive friends! A few months ago Netflix as usual started recommending me series that the algorithm thought I would like. Among the options was this series that I found very enjoyable and fun and ideal for a good time and made me think about the type of content that Netflix thought I would like to see. It's just that for a tempo now Netflix has been releasing content that focus on sexual themes such as Big Mouth, Sex Education and most recently the sassy Sexify.

¡Hola mis amigos de Hive! hace unos meses Netflix como siempre comenzó a recomendarme series que a juicio del algoritmo me iban a gustar. Entre las opciones estaba esta serie que me pareció muy amena y divertida e ideal para pasar un buen rato y me hizo pensar en el tipo de contenido que Netflix creía que me gustaría ver. Es que desde hace un tempo Netflix ha estado lanzando contenido que se centran en temas sexuales como Big Mouth, Sex Education y más recientemente la descarada Sexify.
Bonding is a web series on the Netflix streaming service created by Rightor Doyle and premiering in 2019. The series is perfect to watch in a marathon because of the short length of each episode an estimated 15 to 18 minutes, it has 2 seasons each with 8 episodes. The script is based on personal anecdotes of its creator who was effectively an assistant to a dominatrix in New York more than 2 decades ago.
The story begins when "Tiff a dominatrix whose alias is Mistress May, decides to hire Pete her best friend as her assistant, who later becomes Master Carter. Pete Devin (Brendan Scannell) is a waiter by day and a (rather frustrated) stand up comedian by night. "Tiff" Chester (Zoe Levin) is a psychiatry student who by day struggles with the constant advances of a fellow student and the inappropriate behavior of a rather hot professor, while by night Tiff is one of the most sought after dominatrixes in New York City. From that moment on they will begin to live a series of adventures quite entertaining in my opinion.
Bonding es una serie web del servicio de streaming Netflix creada por Rightor Doyle y estrenada en 2019. La serie es perfecta para ver en un maratón por la corta duración de cada episodio un estimado 15 a 18 minutos, cuenta con 2 temporadas cada una con 8 episodios. El guion está basado en anécdotas personales de su creador que efectivamente fue asistente de una dominatrix en Nueva York hace más de 2 décadas.
La historia comienza cuando "Tiff una dominatrix cuyo alias es Mistress May, decide contratar a Pete su mejor amigo como su asistente, que posteriormente se convierte en Master Carter. Pete Devin (Brendan Scannell) es mesero de día y un cómico (bastante frustrado) en las noches de stand up comedy."Tiff" Chester (Zoe Levin) por su parte es una estudiante de psiquiatría que durante el día lucha con las insinuaciones constantes de un compañero y el comportamiento inadecuado de un profesor bastante caliente, mientras que durante la noche Tiff es una de las dominatrices más solicitadas de la ciudad Nueva York. Desde ese momento comenzarán a vivir una serie de aventuras bastante entretenidas a mi juicio.
Master Carter
Both characters have a somewhat confusing relationship, first we have Pete a gay man who still has doubts about his sexuality and that throughout the series he spends all the time fooling around with his best friend Tiff. On the other hand we have Tiff a pretty tough woman with a pretty conservative outlook for a sex worker. She spends the whole series claiming that she is not a sex worker as if being one was a crime, however the characterization that Zoe Levin made of this young and self-confident girl is very well done, but you could tell that it was a character written by a man, it would have been interesting to have a female writer in this story and above all that the creator investigated much more about this profession.
Other recurring characters found in Bonding are Peter's neighbor Frank (Alex Hurt) and his girlfriend Portia (Gabrielle Ryan). In this series anything goes and one of the moments that made me laugh the most was when Frank asks Peter to stick his finger up his ass in exchange for a free month's rent. Several client stories are intertwined and the series becomes more enjoyable and easy to watch. Like when a client wants to pee on Pete or when he gets beat up by a client for money, things are bizarre but funny and sometimes very gore.
Ambos personajes tienen una relación algo confusa, en primer lugar tenemos a Pete un hombre gay que todavía tiene dudas sobre su sexualidad y que durante toda la serie se la pasa filteando con su mejor amiga Tiff.. Por otra parte tenemos a Tiff una mujer bastante dura con una visión bastante conservadora para ser una trabajadora sexual. Se pasa toda la serie alegando que no es una trabajadora sexual como si serlo fuera un crimen sin embargo la caracterización que hizo Zoe Levin de esta chica joven y segura de sí misma está muy bien lograda, pero se notaba que era un personaje escrito por un hombre, hubiera sido interesante contar con una guionista mujer en esta historia y sobretodo que el creador investigara mucho más acerca de este oficio.
Otros personajes recurrentes que encontramos en Bonding son el vecino de Peter Frank (Alex Hurt) y su novia Portia (Gabrielle Ryan). En esta serie todo se vale uno y de los momentos que más risa me causaron fue cuando Frank le pide a Peter que le meta el dedo en el trasero a cambio de un mes gratis de renta. Varias historias de clientes se van entrelazando y la serie se va haciendo más amena y fácil de ver. Como cuando un cliente quiere orinar a Pete o cuando se deja golpear por una clienta por dinero, las cosas son extrañas pero divertidas y a veces muy gore.
As the story progresses and after much prodding Tiff becomes Doug's (Micah Stock) girlfriend and Peter gets a boyfriend with serious problems accepting his homosexuality. The two of them will go through a kind of internal struggle to maintain their friendship despite their differences.
Sex is ridiculed in Bonding, it seems to me that it is at this point where the series manages to have some fun, the story is agile and everything happens at the right time. It seems to me that the series does not go deep when dealing with the lives of the characters; some of them seem to be made to be filler. I couldn't connect enough with the characters to get attached to any of them. The series doesn't pretend much in fact its format reminds me of Youtube web series everything looks very rudimentary and low budget. Another problem with the series is that it seems to criminalize those who do this work. I find it interesting that the writer wanted to delve into different current social issues but his vision was very old fashioned, at first I thought it would be a revolutionary story that was going to leave some kind of teaching at the end, but the series falls short.
A medida que avanza la historia y después de tanta insistencia Tiff se hace novia de Doug (Micah Stock) y Peter se consigue un novio con serios problemas para aceptar su homosexualidad. Ambos sortearan una especie de lucha interna por mantener la amistad a pesar de las diferencias.
El sexo es ridiculizado en Bonding me parece que es en este punto donde la serie logra divertir un poco, la historia es ágil y todo va pasando en su momento. Me parece que la serie no profundiza al tratar la vida de los personajes, algunos parecen hechos para ser relleno. No me pude conectar lo suficiente con los personajes como para encariñarme con alguno. La serie no pretende mucho de hecho su formato me recuerda a las series web de Youtube todo se ve muy rudimentario y de bajo presupuesto. Otro problema con la serie es que pareciera criminalizar a los que se dedican a este trabajo. Me parece interesante que el escritor haya querido profundizar en distintos temas sociales actuales pero su visión fue muy anticuada, al principio pensé que sería una historia revolucionaria que iba a dejar algún tipo de enseñanza al final, pero la serie se queda corta.
Despite being a product that references Bonding sex it doesn't achieve its goal of hooking the audience, but it is easy to watch even if it seems more of a childish look than the seriousness that the subject deserved. After all it is a series that can be seen in less than 3 hours, not that it is not enough time but I can't imagine it with one hour chapters, simply because it could not hold the narrative arc so implausible, much less hook with the themes and personalities that are selling.
A pesar de ser un producto que hace referencia al sexo Bonding no logra su objetivo de enganchar al público, pero es fácil de ver aunque parezca una mirada más infantil que la seriedad que el tema ameritaba. Después de todo es una serie que se puede ver en menos de 3 horas tampoco es que sea el tiempo suficiente pero tampoco me la imagino con capítulos de una hora, sencillamente porque no podría aguantar el arco narrativo tan inverosímil ni mucho menos enganchar con los temas y personalidades que están vendiendo.
I am left missing the explanation of why there are people seeking this type of service, let alone what makes them enjoy being slaves to their masters or mistress. Without being too hard I would like you to give a chance to Bonding after all is a series to make a marathon and if you do not know anything about the subject you will be missing information but you will be entertained with other types of stories, those of the wonderful minorities who always have things to tell. I can only thank you for having made it this far and give this series a score of 6.5/10.
Me quedó faltando la explicación de porqué hay gente buscando este tipo de servicios, ni mucho menos lo que hace que disfruten de ser esclavos de sus amos. Sin ser demasiado duro quisiera que le dieran una oportunidad a Bonding después de todo es una serie para hacer un maratón y si no sabes nada del tema te quedara faltando información pero te lograras entretener con otro tipo de historias, las de las maravillosas minorías que siempre tienen cosas que contar. No me queda más que agradecer que hayas llegado hasta aquí y darle una puntuación de 6.5/10 a esta serie.
