Although we do not always find good movies, the important thing is to entertain us with something, or at least we hope so, and today I come to talk about a movie that I had no idea of its existence, and it was not in my plans to see, but I ended up watching it; and is that, many times I am not the one who chooses the movies at home, sometimes my father does, and not always lucky, in fact this one in particular I do not finish watching it, because it fell asleep, and sometimes movies become so predictable that it happens. R.I.P.D 2: Rise of the Damned, some call it a sequel, others call it a prequel, of what was R.I.P.D. Deadly Police Department, released in 2013 with Ryan Reinolds as the protagonist, and which was a big failure, I also saw it a few years ago and I would not say it was so indecent, but I never expected a sequel / prequel to it.
Who could imagine a police department in the afterlife? Well, the truth is that for a writer with a good imagination, anything is possible, in this installment of R.I.P.D, we meet Sheriff Roy Pulsipher
Jeffrey Donovan, in the far west of 1876, receiving his daughter and her fiancé and almost immediately, a group of bandits arrive to kidnap the passengers who have just gotten off the train, whom without thinking the Sheriff Roy confronts them with a revolver, typical of old western movies, when he is unexpectedly shot in the back and we instantly see him sitting in a chair in the Rest in Peace police department, where He realizes that he is dead and that a month has already passed, and as in the first installment of this saga, he is given the opportunity to return to earth to fight against the forces of evil, the Diñados, who follow Otis. . Clairborne (
Richard Brake ), although what he really wants is to take revenge on who he believes murdered him.
Upon arriving on land again, with a new outfit and carrying blows from his entrance, or exit, through a latrine, he meets Jeanne (
Penelope Mitchell), a swordswoman who will be his co-worker and who will make him understand things in his new job, since she has been in the job for just over 450 years. The first thing that makes him understand is that, although he wants to take revenge and look for his daughter to talk to her, he cannot do it, since he must stick to the plan, and furthermore, people will now see him as a black woman, who at the time, represents an extra challenge. So they begin their journey as a bounty hunter and without knowing it, by fulfilling the assigned job, they will help his daughter.
The Diados are a kind of evil entity that have come to earth thanks to a crack that Otis opened, and that he wants to finish opening to take over the world of the living, this part I must say, seems to me taken from the ghostbusters, both in context, as in special effects. Basically, the film revolves around the search for these beings, who are nothing more than humans possessed by these spirits, turning them into a kind of zombies, because, even if they are shot in the head, they do not die. Roy and Jeanne manage to capture one of them who at the end of the story ends up helping them to gain the possibility of entering heaven.
There have been many negative reviews that I read about this sequel, although I read that Roy Pulsipher is mentioned in the first installment, but it is something I do not remember, and that's why they call it a prequel, that said, they compare it to M.I.B., however, I would compare it as I mentioned, with the ghostbusters. The criticisms have gone directly to the lighting of the same, and the special effects, I think in terms of lighting, we are talking about a film set in 1876, at that time the lighting was not the best, so dark scenes were to be expected, because to all this that much light a few candles and lamps made with fuel, on the other hand, the special effects, if they leave much to be desired, as there are scenes in which the effects could also be compared to some Scooby Doo movies.
This movie released at the end of 2022, available on some streaming platforms, and which I don't remember seeing any advertising for, I guess from before its release they didn't have much faith in it. It certainly looked like a low budget movie, made by Universal 1440, however, I watched it in full, and that leaves something positive to say about it, because, although my father did fall asleep, which he does regularly, I did not hahaha, it is not a movie I would consciously watch again, but maybe if I come across it again I will give it a look, I will rate it with a 4/10.

Aunque no siempre encontramos buen cine, lo importante es entretenernos con algo, o al menos eso esperamos, y hoy les vengo a hablar sobre una película que ni idea de su existencia tenía, y tampoco estaba en mis planes ver, pero la termine viendo; y es que, muchas veces no soy yo la que escoge las películas en casa, a veces mi padre lo hace, y no siempre toca con suerte, de hecho está en particular no la termino de ver, pues se quedó dormida, y es que a veces las películas llegan a ser tan predecibles que eso sucede. R.I.P.D 2: Rise of the Damned, algunos le dicen secuela, otros le llaman precuela, de lo que fue R.I.P.D. Departamento de Policía Mortal, estrenada en 2013 con Ryan Reinolds como protagonista, y que fue un gran fracaso, que también la vi hace ya unos años y tampoco diría que era tan indecente, pero jamás espere una secuela/precuela de ella.
¿Quién podría imaginarse un departamento de policía en el mas allá? Bueno, la verdad es que para un escritor con buena imaginación, cualquier cosa es posible, en esta entrega de R.I.P.D, nos encontramos con el Sheriff Roy Pulsipher
Jeffrey Donovan, en el lejano oeste de 1876, recibiendo a su hija y su prometido y casi de inmediato, llega un grupo de bandoleros, a secuestrar a los pasajeros que recién descienden del tren, a los que sin pensarlo el sheriff Roy les hace frente con un revolver, típico de las películas del viejo oeste, cuando de manera inesperada y por la espalda recibe un disparo y al instante le vemos sentado en una silla en el departamento de policía del Descanse en Paz, en el que se da cuenta que está muerto y que de eso ya ha pasado un mes, y como en la primera entrega de esta saga, le dan la oportunidad de regresar a la tierra para luchar contra las fuerzas del mal, los Diñados, que siguen a Otis Clairborne (
Richard Brake), aunque el realmente lo que quiere es vengarse de quien cree, lo asesino.
Al llegar a la tierra nuevamente, con un nuevo atiendo y llevando golpes desde su entrada, o salida, por una letrina, se encuentra con Jeanne (
Penelope Mitchell), una espadachina que será su compañera de trabajo y quien le hará entender las cosas en su nuevo trabajo, pues esta lleva algo más de 450 años en el puesto. Lo primero que le hace entender es que, aunque él quiere vengarse y buscar a su hija para hablarle, no puede hacerlo, ya que debe apegarse al plan, y además, las personas lo verán ahora como una mujer negra, que para la época, representa un reto extra. Así que comienzan su travesía como caza recompensas y sin saberlo al cumplir con el trabajo encomendado, ayudaran a su hija.
Los Diñados, son una especie de entidad maligna que han llegado a la tierra gracias a una grieta que abrió Otis, y que quiere terminar de abrir para apoderarse del mundo de los vivos, esta parte debo decir, que me parece extraída de los cazafantasmas, tanto en contexto, como en efectos especiales. Básicamente la película gira en torno a la búsqueda de estos seres, que no son más que humanos poseídos por estos espíritus, convirtiéndolos en una especie de zombis, pues aunque les disparen en la cabeza no mueren. Roy y Jeanne, logran capturar a uno de ellos que al final del cuento termina ayudándoles para ganarse la posibilidad de entrar al cielo.
Muchas han sido las críticas negativas que leí sobre esta secuela, aunque por allí leí que de Roy Pulsipher se hace mención en la primera entrega, pero es algo que no recuerdo, y por eso le dicen precuela, dicho esto continuo, la comparan con M.I.B, sin embargo, yo lo compararía como ya lo mencioné, con los cazafantasmas. Las criticas han ido directamente a la iluminación de la misma, y a los efectos especiales, yo pienso en cuanto a la iluminación, que estamos hablando de una película ambientada en 1876, en esa época la iluminación no era de lo mejor, así que escenas oscuras eran de esperarse, pues a todas esta que tanto iluminan unas cuantas velas y lámparas hechas con combustible, por otro lado, los efectos especiales, si dejan mucho que desear, pues hay escenas en las que los efectos también podrían compararse con algunas películas de Scooby-Doo.
Esta película estrenada a finales del 2022, disponible en algunas plataformas de streaming, y de la cual no recuerdo haber visto publicidad alguna, creo que desde antes de su lanzamiento no tenían mucha fe en ella. Ciertamente, pareciera una película de bajo presupuesto, hecha por Universal 1440, sin embargo, la vi completa, y eso deja algo positivo que decir sobre ella, pues, aunque mi padre si se quedó dormido, cosa que hace regularmente, yo no jajaja, no es una película que vería de nuevo de manera consciente, pero tal vez si me la encuentro de nuevo le dé una ojeada, la valoraré con un 4/10.
