Today I was reviewing what were the movies that came out in 2019, a year before the pandemic took away the joy of seeing them in the cinema on the day of the ends, of course right now I do not even have to leave my house to see a movie, but the bad thing about this is that the quality of movies has declined quite a bit, leading large film companies to release visual or meaningless garbage, every week with resounding failures or with many viewers asking for something better.
Fortunately, 2019 gave us cinema gems that we remember fondly or that we sit down to watch every weekend, for example, we have Green Book, parasite, once upon a time in Hollywood, etc... But of all these the one that stands out the most for me was the long-awaited film of the joker, directed by Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix, tells the story of Arthur fleck a man with many problems and misfortunes in life that one day explodes becoming one of the most legendary villains of cinema.
I don't want to go into details about the soundtrack or the acting of the supporting characters, we all know it was extremely well crafted and everything came out perfect, rather today I want to talk about why for me this was the best movie that stood out in 2019 and that due to seeing deserved more than just best actor and best soundtrack.
1: The beginning is very different than anything mentioned above.
As we well know the Joker movie doesn't tell the typical villain's beginning, it doesn't show that he became a joker because he fell into a vat of acid or because his daddy slashed his face. Rather they show how a person is driven to the brink of madness when people treat him like dirt, lie to him, and fail to fall in love with the woman of his dreams.
In this movie we see that the joker begins to emerge when he murders 3 rich young men who were bothering a girl on a train, from that moment Arthur feels like a new world of possibilities has opened up, he also stops taking the medicine that controlled his laughter and begins to search for his purpose in life. And although he wants to be a comedian, his dreams are cut short when in front of many people mock him and humiliate him, which makes him finally become the Joker a symbol of anarchy and chaos, and finally leave Arthur Fleck in the past.
2: A story similar to the one many people live.
Normally in Batman movies, we see a criminal, ruthless and murderous joker. For example in Batman dark knight, we see a joker who only seeks violence because for him a world without Batman is boring. A whole story full of action, but although it is excellent and intriguing, the truth is something completely unreal, around we do not see someone in a bat suit defeating evil at night or a villain killing gangsters or arming ships with bombs.
But if we now talk about Arthur Fleck's story, we notice that it is something that many people live and even more so during this pandemic where things get distressing for everyone. Since they are in low-paid jobs, the economic system is corrupt and unequal, the people around us only think of themselves and hurt others for fun, does this sound similar? since the beginning of this new millennium, the story of people is becoming more and more like that of Arthur Fleck and we see it daily in the news or on the internet.

But apart from the story that involves you, it also has another aspect that makes it a very valued movie and is how profitable it was (I think it was the most profitable movie of 2019) Normally we see that the most famous stories of cinema have very bulky budgets, for example, Titanic in its 2 releases had an investment of $342 171 034, avengers end game had a budget that was around $400 million and avatar by James Cameron had an investment of $246 million. And although they were good at the box office, it took a lot of money for the production, while the joker only needed $55 million to make the whole movie, including advertising, payment to the actors, etc...
And although Titanic, avatar, or end game are the movies with the highest box office takings, the joker is the most profitable movie in history, since they recoded in box office more than $1 billion, which making calculations represent a 1930% profit, many said that the joker was going to fail for not having enough budget for a movie that is based on a comic book, but we saw how wrong they were.
More questions than answers
Another highlight of the story of Arthur Fleck, is that it is a film enclosed in much mystery and leaves clues or doubts everywhere, for example, is it everything that happened or was it just a figment of Arthur's imagination, if it was real was what happened and is the joker in the asylum telling his story? or Arthur was badly injured during the collision of the patrol and is about to die when he appears in the final scene?
Another doubt it leaves is, if Bruce Wayne was a kid in this movie, the joker we see in other movies is another one that takes the position as it happened in the Gotham series? or maybe the joker finds the source of ras al gul and that's why he is the same joker? or is this the story of one of the 3 jokers that have existed in the whole DC timeline? See? many doubts and few answers.
We also see how possibly The Joker and Batman are brothers, also at the end when Gotham city is in flames because of the anarchy started by Arthur, we see how a Joker sympathizer is the one who kills Bruce Wayne's parents giving the beginning of Batman's story as we know it. This is a whole movie that is surrounded by mysteries that will possibly be unveiled in other installments (if any) or in comics (if any, since this story is not from the original universe).
Anyway, these are some of the reasons why I think todd Phillips' joker is the best movie of 2019, maybe some other reasons are missing, but these are the main ones, leave me in the comments why do you think this movie deserves better recognition.

El día de hoy estuve repasando brevemente cuales fueron las películas que salieron en el 2019, un año antes de que la pandemia nos quitara la alegría de verlos en el cine el día de los extremos, claro en estos momentos ni tengo que salir de mi casa para ver una película, pero lo malo de esto es que la calidad de las películas ha disminuido bastante, Llevando a grandes empresas cinematográficas a sacar basura visual o sin sentido, cada semana con fracasos rotundos o con muchos espectadores pidiendo algo mejor.
Afortunadamente el 2019 nos dio joyas del cine que recordamos con cariño o que nos sentamos a ver cada fin de semana, por ejemplo tenemos Green Book, parasite, once upon a time in hollywood, etc... Pero de todas estas la que más destaco para mí fue la muy esperada cinta del joker, dirigida por toda Phillips y protagonizada por Joaquín Phoenix, narra la historia de Arthur fleck un hombre con muchos problemas y desgracias en la vida que un día estalla convirtiéndose en uno de los villanos mas legendarios del cine.
No quiero entrar en detalles sobre la banda sonora o la actuación de los personajes secundarios, todos sabemos que fue sumamente bien elaborado y todo salió perfecto, más bien hoy quiero hablar de porque para mí esta fue la mejor película que destaco en el 2019 y que debido a ver merecido más que simplemente mejor actor y mejor banda sonora.
1: El inicio es muy distinta a todo lo que se ha mencionado antes
Como bien sabemos la película del Joker no cuenta el típico inicio del villano, no muestra que se volvió joker por caer en un tanque de ácido o porque su papa le acuchillo la cara. Más bien muestran como una persona es llevada al borde de la locura cuando las personas lo tratan como basura, le mienten y no se consigue enamorar de la mujer de sus sueños.
En esta película se ve que el joker comienza a surgir cuando asesina a 3 jóvenes ricos que estaban molestando a una muchacha en un tren, desde ese momento Arthur siente como se ha abierto un nuevo mundo de posibilidades, también deja de tomar la medicina que le controlaba la risa y comienza a buscar su propósito en la vida. Y aunque él quiere ser comediante, sus sueños se ven truncados cuando en frente de muchas personas se burlan de él y lo humillan, eso hace que se convierta finalmente en el Joker un símbolo de la anarquía y el caos y deje finalmente a Arthur fleck en el pasado.
2: Una historia similar a la muchas personas viven
Normalmente en las películas de Batman, vemos a un joker criminal, despiadado y asesino. Por ejemplo en Batman dark knight, vemos a un joker que solo busca la violencia porque para él un mundo sin Batman es aburrido. Toda una historia llena de acción, pero aunque es excelente e intrigante, la verdad es algo completamente irreal, a nuestro alrededor no vemos a alguien con traje de murciélago venciendo el mal por las noches o un villano matando gánster o armando barcos con bombas.
Pero y si ahora hablamos de la historia de Arthur fleck, notamos que es algo que vive muchas personas y más aún en medio de esta pandemia donde las cosas se ponen angustiosas para todos. Ya que están en trabajos mal pagados, el sistema económico es corrupto y desigual, las personas a nuestro alrededor solo piensan en sí mismos y hacen daño a otros con tal de divertirse, ¿te suena esto similar? pues desde que comenzó este nuevo milenio la historia de las personas se parece cada vez más a la de Arthur fleck y lo vemos diariamente en las noticias o en internet.

Pero aparte de la historia que te envuelve, también cuenta con otro aspecto que la hace una película muy valorada y es lo rentable que fue (creo que fue la película más rentable del 2019) Normalmente vemos que las historias más famosas del cine tienen presupuestos muy abultados, por ejemplo Titanic en sus 2 estrenos tuvo una inversión de $342 171 034, avengers end game tuvo un presupuesto que rondaba los $400 millones y avatar de james Cameron tubo una inversión de $246 millones. Y aunque fueron buenas en taquillas, se necesitó de mucho dinero para la producción, en cambio el joker solo necesito $55 millones para hacer toda la película, incluida la publicidad, el pago a los actores, etc...
Y aunque Titanic, avatar o end game sean quienes están como las películas con mayor recaudación en taquilla, el joker es la película más rentable de la historia, ya que recodaron en taquilla más de $1.000 millones, lo que haciendo cálculos representa un 1930% de ganancia, muchos dijeron que el joker iba a fracasar por no contar con suficiente presupuesto para una película que está basada en un comic, pero vimos lo equivocado que estaban.
Más dudas que respuestas
Otro aspecto destacado de la historia de Arthur fleck, es que es una película encerrada de mucho misterio y deja pistas o dudas por todos lados, por ejemplo ¿es real todo lo que paso o solo fue producto de la imaginación de Arthur, si fue real fue lo que paso y es el joker en el manicomio contando su historia? o ¿Arthur quedo muy mal herido durante el choque de la patrulla y está a punto de morir cuando aparece en la escena final?
Otras dudas que deja es, si bruce Wayne era un niño en esta película, el joker que vemos en otras películas es otro que toma el puesto como paso en la serie Gotham? o tal vez el joker encuentra la fuente de ras al gul y por eso es el mismo joker? o ¿esta es la historia de uno de los 3 jokers que han existido en toda la línea temporal de DC? ¿Vez? muchas dudas y pocas respuestas.
También vemos como posiblemente El joker y Batman sean hermanos, también al final cuando la ciudad de Gotham está en llamas por la anarquía iniciada por Arthur, se ve como un simpatizante del joker es quien mata a los padres de bruce Wayne dándole inicio a la historia de Batman como la conocemos. Esta es toda una película que está rodeada de misterios que posiblemente se desvelen en otras entregas (Si es que la hay) o en comics (Si es que los hay, ya que esta historia no es del universo original)
En fin, estas son algunas de las razones por las cuales creo que el joker de todd Phillips es la mejor película del 2019, tal vez falten algunas otras razones, pero estas son las principales, déjame en los comentarios por qué crees tú que esta película merece un mejor reconocimiento.
