Poorly Scripted! Unplugging (2022) Review Movie.

Nowadays, most of us are so addicted to our phones and gadgets that we forget to connect with our loved ones, nature, and the world around us. We get sucked into the internet, work, and digital life that we are not sensitive or aware of what is changing or happening around us. The Unplugging (2022) movie tried to depict this issue but the job wasn't poorly done.

Unplugging is an American comedy film that was released on 22nd April 2022. It was directed by Debra Neil-Fisher and written by Matt Walsh together with Brad Morris. Some reputable actors were also featured in the movie like Eva Longoria, Nicole Byer, and Matt Walsh himself.

When I saw this movie among low-rated movies I decided to check it out to see what is the cause of the low rating. Normally, I would watch a movie where Eva Longoria is featured because is an amazing actress that always puts all her best into any movie she acted in. So seeing her name among the cast, I quickly streamed the movie without hesitation.

Little About The Plot

The movie started with a family who were struggling to provide for themselves. The couple ( Dan and Jeanine) both were struggling to keep the family afloat. Dan had stopped his corporate life by resigning from his white-collar job and afterward going into hot sauce production in his backyard garage while Jeanine stayed in her corporate life but then got married to her job and she had no time for her family anymore.

Dan usually complains about how Jeanine is always on her phone and always available for work without creating time for her family. Soon their routine Jeanine began to do more harm than good. It got to the point that both Dan and Jeanine ignored their daughter. Gadgets, work, and the internet were their priority.

A tragedy happens that made Dan realize that he and his wife have been disconnected and have not been participating in their daughter's life. The death of Dan's business delivery man came as a shock to him and he couldn't believe that the person he saw a few days ago was no more. Seeing his family fall apart, he rented a small cabin in Indiana for him and his wife to go on a short vacation so that they can reconnect back. The question is did Dan achieve his aim? Were memories made during the trip? And did the vacation change their lifestyle for the better? You have to watch the movie so I don't spill the beans.

My Opinions, Recommendations, and Rating.

Watching this movie was interesting because of the storyline which is based on the negative effects of how digital life can damage one's life and cause one to be insensitive to losing what matters in life. After watching the movie, I now get why it was rated low. It was rated low because of the Thin script. The movie was poorly scripted, I felt that if the scriptwriters had settled down to explore every aspect of the storyline to the tiniest part, the script would be rich and I felt that a lot of things were missing out. This failure made the movie lack the feature of real and artistic comedy. There was no real comedy there and what was scripted as a comedy was actually what made the movie have a dulling outlook.

Also, I have issues with how Matt Walsh played his role. He didn't connect well with his role and also didn't connect with Eva Longoria. It was as if Eva was on her own while performing the actions which made me view both couples as mismatched and didn't fit well.

Rating this movie, I will be giving it 3 stars because I expected more and it was also a waste of time but the purpose of the movie was passed through to the viewers. So I would say it's a win. The plot was not well organized, not well planned and the lack of resources they had made the movie deficient and not appreciated by the viewers.

I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone, to be honest, but if you want to learn and see the negative effects of digital life in a family, then you can go ahead and check it out.
