I have seen countless HBO series over the years and I have enjoyed them all, what I have never seen before is an HBO series with dark comedy, or at least not that I can currently remember. Their series usually belong to the drama genre, and there is also some fantasy and scifi mixed in on some productions.
I found out about The White Lotus thanks to a post from @jcrodriguez in which he gave this show a very positive review and I was convinced to give this series a watch too. He finally recommended something good! xD
I really like the comedy genre but it has been a long time since I saw a series with some type of comedy included. I think the last one I saw was Resident Alien a few months ago, so naturally, I was a bit hyped for some comedy touch in a high-quality production.
What was the series about?
The White Lotus tells the story of the guests and staff at a luxury hotel in Hawaii during a week of stay. It begins with the guests arriving and ends with a major tragedy that's revealed to happen in the very first scene of the first episode, and will probably be one of the main reasons for people to watch this show until the end.
Since this is a luxury hotel, the people who take vacations there are always very wealthy and the show tries hard in portraying them as somewhat demanding and very energy consuming to attend to.
Among the guests, we will have a recently married couple, a family, and a middle-aged woman vacationing alone. The story will always revolve around them, and the main members of the hotel's staff will be the manager, the woman in charge of the spa, and a couple of guys who provide general service around the hotel.
The first problem will arise when one of the guests realizes they weren't assigned the room that was supposedly reserved for them. This little mistake will become one of the main plot points of the entire show and will only get worse as time goes on. This is also an example of how demanding and unreasonable one of the guests is and this will cause all types of troubles for the people involved.
The family taking a vacation in the hotel is dysfunctional and this is made very clear with scenes involving the daughter, who is strongly opinionated, and very judgemental towards others without realizing her own hypocrisy.

Sus series generalmente pertenecen al género dramático, y también hay algo de fantasía y ciencia ficción mezcladas en algunas producciones.

Me gusta mucho el género de la comedia pero ha pasado mucho tiempo desde que vi una serie con algún tipo de comedia incluida. Creo que la última que vi fue Resident Alien hace unos meses, así que, naturalmente, estaba un poco emocionado por un toque de comedia en una producción de alta calidad.
¿De qué trataba la serie?
The White Lotus cuenta la historia de los huéspedes y el personal de un hotel de lujo en Hawái durante una semana de estadía. Comienza con la llegada de los invitados y termina con una gran tragedia que se revela en la primera escena del primer episodio, y probablemente será una de las principales razones para que la gente vea este programa hasta el final.
Como se trata de un hotel de lujo, la gente que se va de vacaciones siempre es muy adinerada y el show se esfuerza en retratarlos como exigentes y que consumen mucha energía para ser atendidos.
Entre los invitados, tendremos una pareja de recién casados, una familia y una mujer de mediana edad de vacaciones sola. La historia siempre girará en torno a ellos, y los principales miembros del personal del hotel serán el gerente, la mujer a cargo del spa y un par de chicos que brindan servicio general en el hotel.
El primer problema surgirá cuando uno de los invitados se dé cuenta de que no se le asignó la habitación que supuestamente estaba reservada para ellos. Este pequeño error se convertirá en uno de los puntos principales de la trama de todo el programa y solo empeorará a medida que pase el tiempo. This show provides a fun glimpse into the dark and private aspects of people's lives. One thing is how they look to the outside, but on the inside people can be very different, almost unrecognizable.
In the story, we will see drama related to drugs, betrayals, a sex scandal, a robbery, and a general sense of darkness is constantly increasing until the show reaches its climax. Since the beginning of the series, we know something very bad happened in the hotel, but we don't know exactly what or who was the victim. That is revealed only at the end of the final episode.
As the story becomes crazier, the manager of the hotel will simultaneously become more and more unstable, he needs to deal with a lot of stuff and things will simply become overwhelming for him, thanks to the demanding guests. Especially because one particular guest isn't very empathic towards other people, which means he can easily cause all sorts of problems and I think he even enjoys doing that.
The series was entertaining and has one of the most original music I have heard on a series in recent times. It is very enjoyable, and with only 6 episodes it doesn't take much time to watch it completely. This is definitely another success for HBO, and they turned The White Lotus into an anthology so a similar story will be released sometime in the future and I certainly plan to watch it.
Main names associated with the series
The creator of this show is Mike White. He worked as both the director and the writer. His main experience is as a writer and he has previously worked in the series School of Rock, The Emoji Movie, and another series called Enlightened, among many other productions. He did a terrific job in The White Lotus and this is probably the best production so far in his career.
The cast has a lot of important members, the character I consider the main one for the show is played by the actor Murray Bartlett. He plays the manager of the hotel and it is his main responsibility to take care of the guests and their cravings. He is very disciplined because this is a luxury hotel, and the evolution of this character as the story advances was the most interesting part of the show. Previously, this actor has worked in many productions such as Tales of the City, Beach House, Looking, among many others.
Alexandra Daddario plays a guest in the hotel and she is there for her honeymoon. Her character is a humble journalist who is looking to work hard and earn her own success. This actress can be also seen in The Girlfriend Experience, the Percy Jackson movies, Why Women Kill , and many other productions.
Her husband in the series is played by Jake Lacy. This character is from a wealthy family and is used to always have his way and getting what he wants. Miss Sloane and Rampage are some of the previous productions where we can see this actor.
Este programa ofrece una mirada divertida a los aspectos oscuros y privados de la vida de las personas. Una cosa es cómo se ven por fuera, pero por dentro las personas pueden ser muy diferentes, casi irreconocibles.
En la historia, veremos drama relacionado con drogas, traiciones, un escándalo sexual, un robo, y una sensación general de oscuridad aumenta constantemente hasta que el espectáculo alcanza su clímax. Desde el comienzo de la serie, sabemos que sucedió algo muy malo en el hotel, pero no sabemos exactamente qué o quién fue la víctima. Eso se revela solo al final del último episodio.
A medida que la historia se vuelve más loca, el gerente del hotel se volverá cada vez más inestable, tendrá que lidiar con muchas cosas y todo simplemente se volverá abrumador para él gracias a los huéspedes exigentes. Another guest in the hotel is played by Jennifer Coolidge. She is on a vacation by herself and is an extremely needy and emotionally unstable person. I only know about this actress because she played the mom of an important character in the original American Pie film. More recently, she has acted in The Fungies, The Loud House and Promising Young Woman.
Finally, we have Natasha Rothwell, who plays the character in charge of the spa in the hotel, and a person who knows a lot about how to help people relax and reduce their stress. This actress has previously worked in The Characters, and had a secondary role in Insecure but I believe the main production of her career is The White Lotus so far.
How were the performance from the cast and the scenery?
The performance was great, especially from the members of the cast mentioned in the section above, which were a lot but this series had so many characters sharing a similar amount of screen time so they were all more or less equally important. The performance I liked the least was from Jennifer Coolidge, her character was extremely needy and I understand she tried to be funny but it was just very unrealistic although that doesn't mean she did a bad job entirely, it is just that her performance wasn't as believable compared to the others in my opinion.
The manager of the hotel was great and he had an excellent way to display the frustration his character goes through as the series advances. He really did a terrific job showing a happy face while burning with rage on the inside. Sydney Sweeney was also very believable as a mean girl, her performance was spontaneous and felt real.
Alexandra Daddario and Jake Lucy also provided excellent performances playing a mismatched couple that has all the look of ending up being a dysfunctional relationship. I am not exaggerating when I mention that most members of the cast were really great playing their characters in this show. That coupled with a properly done plot and some cool soundtrack music made The White Lotus a very enjoyable experience. The scenery was also terrific and the hotel was heavenly so everywhere we look things looked nice and pretty until eventually, bad things begin happening and the hotel becomes the place for a horrible tragedy.
Final thoughts
The White Lotus is an enjoyable show if you enjoy drama, a bit of a mystery, and some dark comedy mixed together. It is full of contrasts between the life of wealthy people and regular workers, and the characters are very believable for the most part which makes the entire story felt much more real despite its ending.
I totally recommend checking out this series and honestly believe most people will have fun watching it.

Reflexiones finales
The White Lotus es un espectáculo agradable si te gusta el drama, un poco de misterio y algo de comedia oscura mezclados. Está lleno de contrastes entre la vida de las personas ricas y los trabajadores regulares, y los personajes son muy creíbles en su mayor parte, lo que hace que toda la historia se sienta mucho más real a pesar de su final.
Recomiendo totalmente ver esta serie y sinceramente creo que la mayoría de la gente se divertirá viéndola.
