It is difficult to compare Pig to any other movie because I don't think I have seen previous stories similar to this one. I thought it was going to be much more explosive but it wasn't and this left me with zero options to compare this film.
Pig is a movie that appears to be about a lot of vengeful violence. By simply looking at the poster we can see Nicholas Cage with a very dangerous look full of rage. Even though that look does properly display what his character feels throughout the movie, it shouldn't be considered an extra violent or action film. There will be some punches, but I was honestly expecting something much more explosive.
Main names associated with the film
The director, main writer, and creator of the story is Michael Sarnoski. This person has only directed 6 and written 7 productions his career, and that includes a few shorts. He was extremely active in the years 2011 and 2012, which is when he produced all of his content with the exception of the recently released Pig movie.
After almost 10 years of inactivity, he came back with this film, and what an improvement it should have been to be working with a world-class actor such as Nicholas Cage. Sarnoski's previous productions were very irrelevant, including the 2 series called Olympia and Fight Night Legacy, but now with Pig he had the opportunity to finally show the world his potential. I am interested in keep watching what this person produces because I really liked the originality of Pig, despite the fact I was expecting something different.
The other writer was Vanessa Block. This person must have been a close friend or a close colleague of Sarnoski because Pig is the first time she works as a writer. She has also worked in other departments, she was a director for a documentary short, she worked in sound, and also worked as a producer in the same documentary short as well as in the Pig movie. But I was surprised to see her null experience as a writer before working in Pig. Either way, she must have done a good job because Pig's story was cool.
Nicolas Cage plays the main role and what can I say about this actor that most people don't know. Extremely talented, with countless major films throughout his career, capable of playing all sorts of characters, this guy can increase the popularity of a film just by his presence on it. In fact, one of the reasons I decided to watch Pig was due to Cage playing the main character. I do think his films of recent years aren't as good as the ones from the 2000s or the 90s but he is still great. The best films with this actor in my opinion are Lord of War, 8MM, Face/Off, and Next.

Pig es una película que parece ser sobre mucha violencia vengativa. Con solo mirar el póster podemos ver a Nicholas Cage con una mirada muy peligrosa llena de rabia. A pesar de que esa apariencia muestra correctamente lo que siente su personaje a lo largo de la película, no debe considerarse una película de acción o violenta. Habrá algunos golpes, pero honestamente esperaba algo mucho más explosivo.

Nicolas Cage juega el papel principal y qué puedo decir de este actor que la mayoría de la gente no conozca ya. Extremadamente talentoso, con innumerables películas importantes a lo largo de su carrera, capaz de interpretar todo tipo de personajes, este tipo puede aumentar la popularidad de una película con solo su presencia en ella. De hecho, una de las razones por las que decidí ver a Pig se debió a que Cage interpretaba al personaje principal. Creo que sus películas de los últimos años no son tan buenas como las de los años 2000 o 90, pero sigue siendo genial. Las mejores películas con este actor en mi opinión son Lord of War, 8MM, Face/Off y Next.
His character has a sidekick played by Alex Wolff. The best film where this actor has worked is Hereditary, which was an excellent horror production. He has also acted in The House of Tomorrow and Human Capital among a few other productions. In Pig, he plays a character that is constantly buying truffles from the main character because he works in the restaurant industry. He is pretty much the only person that has contact with the hermit and will help him when difficulties arise.
In summary, we have a director and main writer with little experience, and another writer with simply no experience. However, the lack of experience doesn't mean they are not talented and I think they did a very good job with this film.
What was the movie about?
As mentioned before, the main character is a very strange hermit. It is hard to understand how can people live like that but they exist. I remember months ago I saw a video of an old man who was living all alone on some South American island, I think he was Chilean, and when interviewed he was just a normal guy. He simply lived very isolatedly with no daily contact with anyone.
In Pig, the hermit has contact with the truffle buyer one day per week, but he doesn't even speak a word when the exchange is taking place. His life consists of walking around in the woods, finding truffles with the help of his pig, and just going back to his small "house". He seems very grumpy all the time, which shouldn't be a surprise, and the pig is what he loves the most for some reason.
One night, while he is sleep, his house gets violently assaulted and the pig is taken away from him by force. He is devastated and decides to take matters into his own, he is willing to do anything to recover his pig. This is why I thought the movie was going to be much more explosive and crazy than it actually was.
After suffering the robbery, he manages to contact the only city person he knows, the truffle buyer, and with his help, he decides to start searching for the person responsible for the robbery. The hermit, despite living a very isolated life, has plenty of experience in his field and knows from the past a bunch of people that could provide him with info about the pig.
Su personaje tiene un compañero interpretado por Alex Wolff. La mejor película en la que ha trabajado este actor es Hereditary, que fue una excelente producción de terror. También ha actuado en The House of Tomorrow y Human Capital, entre algunas otras producciones. En Pig, su personaje constantemente está comprando trufas del personaje principal porque trabaja en la industria de la restauración. Es prácticamente la única persona que tiene contacto con el ermitaño y lo ayudará cuando surjan dificultades.
En resumen, tenemos un director y un escritor principal con poca experiencia, y otro escritor simplemente sin experiencia. Sin embargo, la falta de experiencia no significa que no tengan talento y creo que hicieron un muy buen trabajo con esta película.
¿De qué trataba la película?
Como se mencionó anteriormente, el personaje principal es un ermitaño muy extraño. Es difícil entender cómo puede la gente vivir así, pero sí existen. Recuerdo que hace meses vi un video de un anciano que vivía solo en alguna isla sudamericana, creo que era chileno, y cuando lo entrevistaron era un hombre normal. Simplemente vivía muy aislado sin contacto diario con nadie.
En Pig, el ermitaño tiene contacto con el comprador de trufas un día a la semana, pero ni siquiera habla una palabra cuando se realiza el intercambio. Su vida consiste en caminar por el bosque, encontrar trufas con la ayuda de su cerdo y volver a su pequeña "casa". Parece muy gruñón todo el tiempo, lo que no debería ser una sorpresa, y el cerdo es lo que más ama por alguna razón.
Una noche, mientras duerme, su casa es asaltada violentamente y le quitan el cerdo por la fuerza. Está devastado y decide tomar las cosas por su cuenta, está dispuesto a hacer cualquier cosa para recuperar a su cerdo. Por eso pensé que la película iba a ser mucho más explosiva y loca de lo que realmente fue.
Tras sufrir el atraco, logra contactar con el única persona de la ciudad que conoce, el comprador de trufas, y con su ayuda decide comenzar a buscar al responsable del atraco. El ermitaño, a pesar de llevar una vida muy aislada, tiene mucha experiencia en su campo y conoce del pasado a un grupo de personas que podrían proporcionarle información sobre el cerdo.
It is going to be a hell of a journey for this man, but he will make use of the knowledge he had about this industry and its participants before becoming a hermit, and his determination will ultimately pay off. I thought the hermit had murderous desires and was about to begin a violent rampage against the responsible one for the robbery, but in that regard, the movie was very soft. In fact, instead of throwing punches like I thought he would do, he just receives them.
A person in his position could be capable of going completely crazy and doing very destructive stuff. His extreme serenity, and sometimes even passiveness didn't fit the expectations about the character.
Despite that small disappointment regarding the true personality of the hermit, the plot was original and entertaining enough. It is certainly a strange movie but in a good way.
How were the performance from the cast, the settings and the camera work?
I enjoyed the performance of the cast. The actors did a proper job with their roles and the story was able to advance with ease. The settings were really creative, just like the plot. While on the journey to discover what happened to his pig, the hermit, sometimes accompanied by his sidekick the truffles buyer, will visit all sorts of places. When visiting these places we will learn more about the life of the hermit before he decided to go live in the woods alone. The camera work was very good. There are some scenes where the camera angle makes things look much better but what makes Pig really special isn't its cinematography but its very original plot.
Final thoughts
Pig is a drama film that seems to promise that intensive action scenes will take place but they never do. So don't expect much action from it, only drama and nothing more. The plot was something unique and worth watching with Nicholas Cage providing a good performance as a strange hermit. In my view, it would have been more entertaining to have some explosive action scenes, but maybe the creator of the film knew this and in order to trick the viewers decides to not include anything explosive.

Va a ser un viaje increíble para este hombre, pero hará uso del conocimiento que tenía sobre esta industria y sus participantes antes de convertirse en un ermitaño, y su determinación finalmente dará sus frutos. Pensé que el ermitaño tenía deseos asesinos y estaba a punto de iniciar un violento alboroto contra el responsable del robo, pero en ese sentido, la película fue muy suave. De hecho, en lugar de lanzar golpes como pensé que haría, simplemente los recibe.
Una persona en su posición podría volverse completamente loca y hacer cosas muy destructivas. Su extrema serenidad y, a veces, incluso su pasividad, no se ajustaban a las expectativas del personaje.
A pesar de esa pequeña decepción con respecto a la verdadera personalidad del ermitaño, la trama fue bastante original y entretenida. Ciertamente es una película extraña pero en el buen sentido.
¿Cómo fue la actuación del elenco, la ambientación y el trabajo de cámara?
Disfruté de la actuación del elenco. Los actores hicieron un buen trabajo con sus roles y la historia pudo avanzar con soltura. Los escenarios fueron realmente creativos, al igual que la trama. Durante la aventura para descubrir qué pasó con su cerdo, el ermitaño, a veces acompañado de su compinche el comprador de trufas, visitará todo tipo de lugares. Al visitar estos lugares aprenderemos más sobre la vida del ermitaño antes de que decidiera irse a vivir solo al bosque. El trabajo de cámara fue muy bueno. Hay algunas escenas en las que el ángulo de la cámara hace que las cosas se vean mucho mejor, pero lo que hace que Pig sea realmente especial no es su cinematografía, sino su trama muy original.
Reflexiones finales
Pig es una película de drama que parece prometer que se llevarán a cabo intensas escenas de acción, pero nunca lo hacen. Así que no esperes mucha acción de este film, solo drama y nada más. La trama fue algo único y digno de ser visto con Nicholas Cage brindando una buena actuación como un extraño ermitaño. En mi opinión, hubiera sido más entretenido tener algunas escenas de acción explosivas, pero tal vez el creador de la película lo sabía y para engañar a los espectadores decide no incluir nada explosivo.
