HBO is a company with a good reputation for producing great movies and especially series. Their most prominent genre is drama and with the current complication to watch new movies in the cinema it is awesome to have this type of company releasing new high-quality content straight to their streaming services.
Oslo is a film about a very challenging political topic in one of the most bellicose zones in the entire world. The area where Israelites and Palestinians coexist and not in a peaceful manner, in fact, it is the total opposite and both of those groups are constantly fighting and killing each other.
I am no an expert on this topic and I have no clue about which group has more arguments in their favor. All I know is that this problem between them is of extremely difficult solution, and these wars have affected generation after generation. This obviously results in a lot of wasted lives, time, and resources that could have been used in more productive endeavors.
This is a film that many years ago would not have interested me because I saw political dramas as very boring plots. However, in recent years, my taste when it comes to films and series has evolved, and now this type of movie is entertaining and very enjoyable for me.
Main names associated with the film
This was a movie produced by HBO and I was expecting a lot of talent to be involved in this project. This is why I was surprised to realize the director of this film has very little experience in the industry. So far he has only worked as a director in 3 productions and his forte is actually as a theatre director, not as a film or series director. This is his most important production so far and while watching the film, it didn't felt like it was directed by a person who is almost an amateur, and this says a lot about his skills.
The writer was J.T. Rogers and also has little experience in films and series, just like the director. He usually works as a playwright and not really in series or films so both the director and the writer probably worked together in theatres before joining forces for producing the Oslo film. This is a curious case of having people from a different but similar industry being in charge of such an important film and doing a good job at it. Oslo's plot is based on a play written by Rogers himself, so what he did was adapt that writing from a play to a film format.
When it comes to the cast, there 2 main characters are played by very well-known actors. These characters are a Norwegian husband and wife. The husband is played by Andrew Scott, who I was able to easily recognized because I remember he played the villain Moriarty in a recent Sherlock Holmes series. This actor also had a small role in the HBO series His Dark Materials, and has also participated in important productions, such as 1917, and the Fleabag series.
The wife is played by the actress Ruth Wilson, who also has an extensive and successful career as an actress. I was able to recognize this actress because she plays an important role in the HBO series His Dark Materials. She has also worked in other important series such as Luther and The Affair. As well as in some films such as The Little Stranger, Dark River and How to Talk to Girls at Parties.
Oslo es una película sobre un tema político muy desafiante en una de las zonas más belicosas del mundo entero. El área donde conviven israelitas y palestinos y no de manera pacífica, de hecho, es todo lo contrario y ambos grupos están constantemente luchando y matándose entre sí.
No soy un experto en este tema y no tengo ni idea de qué grupo tiene más argumentos a su favor. Todo lo que sé es que este problema entre ellos es de una solución extremadamente difícil, y estas guerras han afectado a generación tras generación. Obviamente, esto da como resultado una gran cantidad de vidas, tiempo y recursos desperdiciados que podrían haberse utilizado en esfuerzos más productivos.
Esta es una película que hace muchos años no me hubiera interesado porque veía los dramas políticos como tramas muy aburridas. Sin embargo, en los últimos años mi gusto por las películas y las series ha evolucionado, y ahora este tipo de películas me resultan entretenidas y muy disfrutables.

What was the movie about?
The movie is mainly about the efforts of a Norwegian couple in finding a way to stop the war between the Palestinians and Israelis, by encouraging peaceful discussions and negotiations on a neutral ground with the goal of achieving long-lasting peace between the 2 groups.
Their interest in helping solve this problematic situation that doesn't directly affect them is because the wife saw firsthand the consequences of this war, and she became a bit traumatized by how this is affecting the lives of a lot of innocent people. She decided she wanted to do something to help solve this tragic situation.
They were able to identify a small problem in the negotiations for peace before their Oslo meetings, and its problem consisted in that both groups were making a lot of demands at the same time, and this made it impossible to achieve any solution to their problems. What they proposed was to start with small concessions, and slowly work their way from there.
This was obviously a well-connected couple, with access to important political contacts and information that ultimately allowed them to become the host and organizers of these historic meetings. Their strategy was only to facilitate this contact between the 2 groups and not to directly participate in the negotiations themselves because this was something that only the involved parties should decide on their own with no external influence.
The film shows how difficult it must be to properly organize this type of meeting. There are a lot of bureaucratic complications that make things difficult and frustrating, and there was also the natural distrust from both parties in risking their physical integrity to meet with the enemy. However, their proposal seems convincing enough, and both parties decide to test the waters and meet with each other to see what happens.
Something important about these negotiations is that they happened in secret. No one involved wanted to make these meetings public and it all began in a very clandestine way. There was not even a single Israeli official in the first meeting, that's how clandestine it was.

La película trata principalmente sobre los esfuerzos de una pareja noruega para encontrar una manera de detener la guerra entre palestinos e israelíes, alentando discusiones pacíficas y negociaciones en un terreno neutral con el objetivo de lograr una paz duradera entre los 2 grupos.
Su interés en ayudar a resolver esta situación problemática que no los afecta directamente se debe a que la esposa vio de primera mano las consecuencias de esta guerra y quedó un poco traumatizada por cómo esto está afectando las vidas de muchas personas inocentes. Decidió que quería hacer algo para ayudar a resolver esta trágica situación.
Pudieron identificar un pequeño problema en las negociaciones de paz antes de sus reuniones de Oslo, y este problema consistía en que ambos grupos estaban haciendo muchas demandas al mismo tiempo, lo que imposibilitaba lograr una solución a sus problemas. Lo que propusieron fue comenzar con pequeñas concesiones y, poco a poco, ir abriéndose camino a partir de ahí.
Obviamente, se trataba de una pareja bien conectada, con acceso a importantes contactos políticos e información que finalmente les permitió convertirse en anfitriones y organizadores de estas históricas reuniones. Hay muchas complicaciones burocráticas que hacen las cosas difíciles y frustrantes, y también existía la desconfianza natural de ambas partes al arriesgar su integridad física para encontrarse con el enemigo. Sin embargo, su propuesta parece ser lo suficientemente convincente, y ambas partes deciden probar las aguas y reunirse para ver qué pasa.

The negotiations can get quite tense while they are discussing very important topics, and naturally, everything seems to be about to break down but since this is a story based on real-life events we all know what happened with these negotiations. The film only covers the creation and negotiations of the Oslo Accords and not what happened years later, although it shows some scenes and shares basic information about what ended up happening a few years later.
How were the performance from the cast, the settings and the camera work?
I enjoyed the performance of the 2 main members of the cast. I think they played their roles in an appropriate manner, and they really showed how honest their effort was to help solve this situation. It really made me believe these 2 individuals cared for these negotiations and were doing everything they could to achieve a positive outcome.
During the discussions, the dialogue also felt very authentic as well as their intense fights. There were a few unrealistic moments but the film never lost its seriousness and its tone. It was a very decent production all around.
The settings were acceptable. The negotiations take place inside a beautiful mansion, and there is a very important scene that takes place in a Norwegian forest. It was all very pretty and nice to look at. When it comes to the camera work, it was nicely done as well although most scenes take place inside a room almost all the scenes look the same way.
Final thoughts
Oslo is a worth watching film. It is a very decent political drama about one of the most problematic zones in the world. It shows the conflict in a neutral manner, letting the people know bits of information related to both sides of the argument, and for anyone interested in this particular genre, political drama, I believe Oslo can be an enjoyable watch.
Las negociaciones pueden ponerse bastante tensas mientras se discuten temas muy importantes y, naturalmente, todo parece estar a punto de romperse, pero como esta es una historia basada en hechos de la vida real, todos sabemos lo que pasó con estas negociaciones. La película solo cubre la creación y negociación de los Acuerdos de Oslo y no lo que sucedió años después, aunque muestra algunas escenas y comparte información básica sobre lo que terminó sucediendo unos años después.
¿Cómo fue la actuación del elenco, la ambientación y el trabajo cámara?
Disfruté la actuación de los 2 miembros principales del elenco. Creo que desempeñaron sus roles de manera apropiada y realmente demostraron cuán honesto fue su esfuerzo para ayudar a resolver esta situación. Realmente me hizo creer que estas 2 personas se preocupaban por estas negociaciones y estaban haciendo todo lo posible para lograr un resultado positivo.
Durante las discusiones, el diálogo también se sintió muy auténtico, así como sus intensas luchas. Hubo algunos momentos poco realistas, pero la película nunca perdió su seriedad y su tono. Fue una producción muy decente en todos lados.
La ambientación fue aceptable. Las negociaciones tienen lugar dentro de una hermosa mansión, y hay una escena muy importante que se desarrolla en un bosque noruego. Todo era muy bonito y agradable de ver. En lo que respecta al trabajo de cámara, también se hizo muy bien, aunque la mayoría de las escenas tienen lugar dentro de una habitación, así que casi todas las escenas se ven iguales.
Reflexiones finales
Oslo es una película que vale la pena ver. Es un drama político muy decente sobre una de las zonas más problemáticas del mundo. Muestra el conflicto de una manera neutral, dejando que la gente conozca fragmentos de información relacionados con ambos lados del argumento, y para cualquier persona interesada en este género en particular, el drama político, creo que Oslo puede ser un film bastante bueno.
