There are a lot of accumulated productions to be released from the previous year because covid delayed everything, and horror is just another genre with a lot of cool things coming out soon.
Malignant is an extremely original film with a plot that I have never seen before. It presents a completely new type of being that allows for some awesome creepy moments to take place, but it isn't a perfect story and it does have some plot holes that should have been easy to avoid.
What was the movie about?
The film begins in a strange hospital where some doctors are working with a very weird patient that somehow has psychic powers. This strange being looks humanoid but physically he looks very weak and vulnerable. He is surely not normal and is also aggressive and dangerous.
The story is about a woman, Madison, who appears to be normal but is actually somehow special. She is living a normal life but has the bad luck of having an abusive husband. We quickly learn that she has suffered several miscarriages in the past and this has damaged their relationship and any viewer will probably assume that her miscarriages are the result of abuses from her husband. Later in the movie, we will learn more about this.
She is currently pregnant once again but despite her delicate situation, her husband smashes her head in the wall after they had an argument. After this moment, Madison's life will change forever. She locks herself in the room, falls asleep, has a horrible dream about her husband and her being attacked by a mysteriously dark figure, and when she wakes up, she finds out that her dream maybe wasn't a dream after all.
Since the attacker appeared to have super strength, Madison couldn't be the murderer, the police will naturally see her as a suspect but without any proof, they cannot do anything. The puzzling thing for her is that she saw everything while sleeping and that creeps the hell out of her, not only that, she also learns the name of the dark mysterious figure, Gabriel.
Her life is currently a mess so her sister will become an important person in her life during these troubling moments. As the story advances, we will learn a couple of mysterious secrets about the past of Madison, particularly about her childhood. Secrets that not even her sister knew, but this rabbit hole goes much deeper than what Madison was expecting.
Hay muchas producciones acumuladas que se lanzarán del año anterior porque Covid retrasó todo, y el terror es solo otro género más con muchas cosas geniales que saldrán pronto.
Malignant es una película extremadamente original con una trama que nunca antes había visto. Presenta un tipo de ser completamente nuevo que permite que ocurran algunos momentos espeluznantes increíbles, pero no es una historia perfecta y tiene algunos agujeros en la trama que deberían haber sido fáciles de evitar.
¿De qué trataba la película?
La película comienza en un extraño hospital donde algunos médicos están trabajando con un paciente muy extraño que de alguna manera tiene poderes psíquicos. Este extraño ser luce humanoide pero físicamente se ve muy débil y vulnerable. Seguramente no sea alguien normal y también es agresivo y peligroso.

Más adelante en la película, aprenderemos más sobre esto.
Actualmente está embarazada una vez más, pero a pesar de su delicada situación, su esposo le golpea la cabeza contra la pared después de una discusión. Después de este momento, la vida de Madison cambiará para siempre. As they tried to figure out what's happening, they will have to rewatch old tapes from Madison's past, and her sister will even go to an old building with the goal of recovering info about Madison's condition when she was a child. In the meantime, Madison continues to have horrible visions that are traumatizing her.
The police are overwhelmed by the horrible crimes and they are desperate to find the murderer and solve all of this craziness once and for all. They aren't aware that this time, the solution doesn't depend entirely on them and they are actually facing something they cannot control. These aren't normal murder cases but something in the realm of the unexplainable.
As I mentioned before, this movie introduces a new type of being in the horror genre and its originality makes the film even better. The viewer might at times think that Madison is being haunted by a poltergeist, other times they might think there is a killer with special abilities and with an obsession towards her, some viewers might also think that Madison has some type of personality disorder... the fact is that all of those theories wouldn't be completely original but Malignant's great twist is unique and something never done before.
The story is far from perfect though, there are some plot holes and the supernatural aspect of the story is never properly explained, but it was certainly an acceptable and enjoyable horror production and another success for James Wan.

James Wan worked as both a director and a writer. This person is very popular for his good horror productions such as The Insidious and The Conjuring movies. He has also directed a Fast & Furious film as well as an Aquaman film and a couple of Saw films. As a writer, he sometimes writes the movies he directs but not all the time. When he is fully involved in a horror production it usually ends up being a great film to watch.
The story also had 2 other writers, one of them was Akela Cooper. She has worked mainly in series so far and Malignant is one of the first movies she ventures into. Among her previous jobs as a writer, we can find several horror productions such as AHS, where he wrote one episode of season 6, as well as the series Chambers and the movie Hell Fest.

Sin embargo, la historia está lejos de ser perfecta, hay algunos agujeros en la trama y el aspecto sobrenatural de la historia nunca se explica adecuadamente, pero ciertamente fue una producción de terror aceptable, disfrutable y otro éxito para James Wan.

The main member of the cast is Annabelle Wallis. She plays the main character, a woman who is enduring an abusive marriage and suddenly she will find herself experiencing horrible visions and being haunted by some unknown force. This actress has participated in a lot of great productions such as The Mummy, Peaky Blinders, Annabelle, and many others.
Maddie Hasson will play her younger sister, a cheerful and happy girl who works as an amateur actress and who really cares about her sister and wants to help her solve her complicated issues. Some of the previous productions where this actress has worked are the series Twisted and Impulse.
How were the performance from the cast, the scenery and the camera work?
I was happy with the performance of Annabelle Wallis. She does a proper job playing her role and she remains completely in tune with her character. However, what made this movie look really cool were both the lighting work and the camera work.
During several scenes, those 2 aspects are going to produce very good-looking scenes that build up the mystery and the intrigue of the plot. I have to say James Wan did an excellent job introducing a new way of creepiness in this film, and the end result was more than satisfactory.
Final thoughts
Malignant is an excellent horror film with a very original touch that allows for new creepy moves to be possible, similar to the original creepy moves from the Exorcist film where the possessed girl walk in a twisted backward way. Malignant has something similar but different and therefore, very unique.
The only bad thing is the plot holes but despite that, I believe the film is very enjoyable and people who like horror productions will probably like this one. It is not perfect, but it provides a very unique approach to the genre, which makes it worth watching in my opinion.

Reflexiones finales
Malignant es una excelente película de terror con un toque muy original que permite que sean posibles nuevos movimientos espeluznantes, similares a los movimientos espeluznantes originales de la película Exorcist donde la chicas poseída caminaba retorcida hacia atrás. Malignant tiene algo similar pero diferente y, por tanto, muy singular.
Lo único malo son los agujeros de la trama, pero a pesar de eso, creo que la película es muy agradable y a las personas a las que les gustan las producciones de terror probablemente les gustará. La peli no es perfecta, pero proporciona un enfoque único del género, lo que, en mi opinión, hace que valga la pena verla.
