The first one I watches was Train to Busan, which is one of the best zombie films I have seen in my life. But they have also produced another cool movie called "#Alive" which provides a nice story where a guy used modern items to survive a zombie apocalypse in his apartment, I also watched another series called Sweet Home which was entertaining but not entirely serious, and of course, Kingdom which is one of the most popular zombie series of recent times.
When I first hear about this series I wasn't entirely sure I would enjoy it. The medieval settings didn't look too intriguing for me mainly because I have never thought about zombies during that era. However, as time went on, the series eventually got a second season that also received a lot of praise and in recent weeks they released a special episode called Kingdom: Ashin of the North. So after seeing this series managed to have so much success, I finally decided to give it a watch and see what's the buzz all about.
Main names associated with the series
The director is Seong-hun Kim, he hasn't directed many productions, only 4 so far but among those, we can find 3 productions of very high quality. Kingdom is the most popular obviously but there are also a couple of good films called A Hard Day and Teo-neol. This person must be a natural talent when it comes to directing because without having too much experience is capable of doing terrific jobs in both films and series.
The writer of the story is Eun-hee Kim, who has been writing stories for series for almost years. Some of the previous productions where this person worked as a writer are Signal, The Queen's Classroom, and The Prime Minister and I.
Ju Ji-Hoon is the actor playing the main character. This character is an heir Prince but he will find himself in a lot of trouble after as a result of a power struggle and conspiracy involving a clan that wants to take him out. Some of the other productions where this actor has worked are the series Hyena, Item, and Mask.
The heir Prince has a personal bodyguard played by the actor Kim Sang-Ho. This bodyguard is extremely loyal to the Prince and they are always together throughout the series. This actor has been working in a lot of series over the past few years, some of those series are the Sweet Home which is the same one I mentioned a few paragraphs above, Lookout, and Missing 9.
La primera que vi fue Train to Busan, que es una de las mejores películas de zombis que he visto en mi vida. Pero también han producido otra película genial llamada "#Alive", que ofrece una buena historia en la que un tipo usa herramientas modernas para sobrevivir a un apocalipsis zombi en su apartamento. También vi otra serie llamada Sweet Home que era entretenida pero no del todo seria, y por supuesto, Kingdom, que es una de las series de zombies más populares de los últimos tiempos.
Cuando escuché por primera vez sobre esta serie, no estaba del todo seguro de que la disfrutaría. Los escenarios medievales no me parecieron demasiado intrigantes, principalmente porque nunca pensé en los zombis durante esa época. Sin embargo, a medida que pasaba el tiempo, la serie finalmente obtuvo una segunda temporada que también recibió muchos elogios y en las últimas semanas lanzaron un episodio especial llamado Kingdom: Ashin of the North. Entonces, después de ver que esta serie logró tener tanto éxito, finalmente decidí darle un vistazo y ver de qué se trataba.

What was the series about?
The series takes place in a medieval Kingdom where a lot of old-fashioned customs are still in place. People are extremely respectful and scared of their political elite, even to the point of having a lot of people constantly kneeling on the floor in every episode when a powerful person appears.
There is a big mystery surrounding the king since the beginning of the series, it is said he is sick but no one knows for sure, only those that work closely with him. This secrecy is so extreme that not even his first son from his previous marriage, the heir Prince, knows what's really happening.
The fact he isn't allowed to see his father makes him feel very suspicious, he feels something is wrong and that very bad things that could put him in danger are happening. There is a weird hostility towards him from the people closest to the King, and he realizes he might be a target of some type of conspiracy. Without knowing anything about the existence of zombies, he decides to escape before he gets murdered. Luckily for him, his personal bodyguard escapes with him.
During this journey, they will both learn about strange attacks that took place in another village, and soon enough, we will see the first fight involving those scary zombies. The series briefly explain the origin of this zombie epidemic but I expect further explanations in season 2.
For the Prince, there will be basically 2 types of danger, the zombies of course, but also his enemies that want to take him out in order to prevent him from becoming a King. The priority is always surviving the zombie apocalypse of course.
As the Prince goes from village to village trying to find answers, help, and refugee, we will see all types of people but I was surprised to see a couple of powerful characters adopting a cartoonish personality as if this was a silly anime. It felt as if the goal was to make the viewer laugh with these silly characters but for me, it wasn't really funny and it felt very anti-climatic.

La serie tiene lugar en un reino medieval donde todavía existen muchas costumbres pasadas de moda. La gente es extremadamente respetuosa y teme a su élite política, incluso hasta el punto de tener a muchas personas constantemente arrodilladas en el suelo en cada episodio cuando aparece una persona poderosa.
Hay un gran misterio en torno al rey desde el inicio de la serie, se dice que está enfermo pero nadie lo sabe a ciencia cierta, solo aquellos que trabajan de cerca con él. Este secreto es tan extremo que ni siquiera su hijo de su matrimonio anterior, el príncipe heredero, sabe lo que realmente está sucediendo.
El hecho de que no se le permita ver a su padre lo hace sentir mucha sospecha, siente que algo anda mal y que están sucediendo cosas muy malas que podrían ponerlo en peligro. Hay una extraña hostilidad hacia él por parte de las personas más cercanas al Rey, y se da cuenta de que podría ser el objetivo de algún tipo de conspiración. Sin saber nada sobre la existencia de zombies, decide escapar antes de ser asesinado. Por suerte para él, su guardaespaldas personal se escapa con él.
Durante este viaje, ambos aprenderán sobre ataques extraños que tuvieron lugar en otra aldea y, muy pronto, veremos la primera pelea que involucra a esos zombis aterradores. La serie explica brevemente el origen de esta epidemia de zombis, pero espero más explicaciones en la temporada 2.
Para el Príncipe, habrá básicamente 2 tipos de peligro, los zombies por supuesto, pero también sus enemigos que quieren acabarlo para evitar que se convierta en Rey. La prioridad siempre es sobrevivir al apocalipsis zombi, por supuesto.
Mientras el Príncipe va de pueblo en pueblo tratando de encontrar respuestas, ayuda y refugio, veremos todo tipo de personas, pero me sorprendió ver a un par de personajes poderosos adoptando una personalidad caricaturesca como si fuera un anime tonto. Sentí como si el objetivo fuera hacer reír al espectador con estos personajes tontos, pero para mí, no fue realmente divertido y se sintió muy anti-climático.
So far, there is no solution to this apocalypse and the show hasn't informed the viewer about any way that could stop this apocalypse. I believe the doctor's character will be key in finding a solution but as far as season 1 is concerned, they are all in very difficult situations with the more likely outcome being their death. Season 2 should be very fun.
How were the performance from the cast, the scenery and the camera work?
The performance from the main characters was nice, but there were a lot of times when the excessive respect towards the political elite seemed inauthentic and exaggerated but I guess that's how things were back in those times. The silly performance from the 2 cartoonish characters wasn't good.
Something that was very well-done was the medieval look of the characters and the scenery, they really made it look like a medieval society, and it made the series much more enjoyable. Personally, I have never seen a zombie apocalypse taking place in that type of societies so it was very entertaining. The look of the zombies was acceptable too, they looked scary and with properly done makeup.
The camera work was nicely done. There are a lot of shots showing the scenery and a lot of them made good use of the camera angle. The series is certainly a high-quality production and it is noticeable in every episode.
Final thoughts
Kingdom isn't perfect and it isn't my favorite zombie story but it is a worth-watching series, especially for people who love zombies or who enjoy drama with a lot of violence. The series only has 6 episodes per season but the story is properly written so it doesn't feel like it needs more time. I am intrigued about how are they going to survive their problematic situations in season 2 so I will begin to watch it later this week.

Hasta ahora, no hay solución para este apocalipsis y la serie no ha informado al espectador sobre ninguna forma que pueda detenerlo. Creo que el carácter del médico será clave para encontrar una solución, pero en lo que respecta a la temporada 1, todos se encuentran en situaciones muy difíciles y el resultado más probable es su muerte. La temporada 2 debería ser muy divertida.
¿Cómo fue la actuación del elenco, el escenario y el trabajo de cámara?
La actuación de los personajes principales fue buena, pero hubo muchas ocasiones en las que el respeto excesivo hacia la élite política parecía poco auténtico y exagerado, pero supongo que así eran las cosas en aquellos tiempos. La tonta actuación de los 2 personajes caricaturescos no fue buena.
Algo que estuvo muy bien hecho fue el aspecto medieval de los personajes y la escenografía, realmente hicieron que pareciera una sociedad medieval, y eso hizo que la serie fuera mucho más divertida. Personalmente, nunca he visto un apocalipsis zombie en ese tipo de sociedades, así que fue muy entretenido. El aspecto de los zombies también era aceptable, se veían atemorizantes y con el maquillaje bien hecho.
El trabajo de la cámara se hizo muy bien. Hay muchas tomas que muestran el paisaje y muchas de ellas hicieron un buen uso del ángulo de la cámara. La serie es ciertamente una producción de alta calidad y se nota en cada episodio.
Reflexiones finales
Kingdom no es perfecto y no es mi historia de zombies favorita, pero es una serie que vale la pena ver, especialmente para las personas que aman a los zombis o que disfrutan del drama con mucha violencia. La serie solo tiene 6 episodios por temporada, pero la historia está escrita correctamente, por lo que no parece que necesite más tiempo. Estoy intrigado acerca de cómo van a sobrevivir a sus situaciones problemáticas en la temporada 2, así que comenzaré a verla más adelante esta semana.
