First, every review I read about it was positive. In my case, before deciding to watch a movie or series, I prefer to first check what other reviewers said about it. I really hate wasting my time watching a crappy, substandard, or unenjoyable production and I try to avoid this as much as I can. With Cruella, the proportion of positive reactions from the viewers was overwhelming and eventually, I decided to change my decision and give this film a watch.
I can't really compare this Cruella character with the one from the animated film because I don't remember much about it, but I think this movie can be enjoyed without knowing anything about the 101 Dalmatians productions. Before talking about the film, I would like to mention a few people who were the main responsible ones for making this an enjoyable movie.
Main names associated with the film
The director is Craig Gillespie. The only previous film I have watched by this director is The Finest Hours, but he has also directed other good movies such as Million Dollar Arm and I, Tonya. Cruella 2 is under production with him as the director again so I have high expectations about that film.
The screenplay has 2 writers. One of them is Dana Fox who also worked as a writer in the series Home Before Dark which I began to watch a couple of weeks ago and it is quite good. That series and the Cruella movie are the 2 most important productions in her writing career, but she has also worked in other productions such as Isn't It Romantic, and How to Be Single.
The other screenplay writer is Tony McNamara. Among his previous productions, we can find The Favourite, Ashby, and a bunch of series such as Puberty Blues, The Great, and many others.
The main character, Cruella, is played by Emma Stone, a terrific actress that I am sure most people have watched several times on the screen. This actress has worked in a lot of good films, some examples could be La La Land, Easy A, The Help, and she even acted in a couple of Spider-Man films.
Cruella has 2 sidekicks. One of them is played by Joel Fry, who for some reason reminds me of the actor Benedict Cumberbatch. Fry has previously worked in the popular GOT series where he had a small role, in the movie Yesterday, in the series Requiem, among several others. He usually has secondary roles but is a very experienced actor by this point. In Cruella, he plays one of the best friends of her since they were children and it can be said they are like family.
The other sidekick is played by Paul Walter Hauser. He played the main character in the excellent drama film Richard Jewell, he has also worked in the Cobra Kai series and has had secondary characters in I, Tonya, and BlacKkKlansman.
Primero, cada reseña que leí al respecto era positiva. En mi caso, antes de decidirme a ver una película o serie, prefiero comprobar primero lo que han dicho otros críticos al respecto. Realmente odio perder el tiempo viendo una producción de mala calidad, deficiente o desagradable y trato de evitar esto tanto como puedo. Con Cruella, la proporción de reacciones positivas de los espectadores fue abrumadora y, finalmente, decidí cambiar mi decisión y darle un vistazo a esta película.
Realmente no puedo comparar este personaje de Cruella con el de la película animada porque no recuerdo mucho al respecto, pero creo que esta película se puede disfrutar sin saber nada sobre las producciones de 101 Dálmatas. Antes de hablar de la película, me gustaría mencionar a algunas personas que fueron las principales responsables de hacer de esta una película disfrutable.

In summary, this movie has proper talent in every important area and the final result was a memorable and entertaining film. I am waiting for the second part to see how this Cruella character keeps evolving.
What was the movie about?
This film is about the origins of Cruella. The story begins with her birth and ends with her becoming the powerful Cruella character who's already known from the 101 Dalmatians movie.
The peculiar hair color turns out to be her natural color due to some type of condition and not the result of dyeing it. Since she was very little, Cruella, whose real name is actually Estella, was a troublemaker. She always had troubles in school, and when someone tried to bully her she always responded sometimes even with violence.
Her troubling personality started to become a serious issue in her life as well as her mother's. They eventually decide to move to another city and midtrip the mother makes a quick visit to a very luxurious party and in this place, Estella's life will change forever.
Soon enough after this, she meets 2 kids around her age who are always stealing things and trying to trick adults so they can get their money. She becomes friends with them and will develop the type of friendship that can last a lifetime.
This part of the movie is only the introduction to the adult Estella, so the film doesn't spend too much time with the kid version. As an adult, Estella lives off of what she can steal with the help of her 2 friends. Since attending that luxurious party with her mother so many years ago she became fixated on fashion design, and it has become her passion.
Eventually, she is able to begin working in a very important fashion store not as a designer but rather as a cleaner. This won't stop her from continuing to study on her own everything related to fashion design and dedicating some of her free time to make her own designs.
She seems to be on the road to finally get the job that she has always dreamed of and her personal growth gets in turbo mode as soon as this happens. However, let's not forget this is Cruella we are talking about so there must be some bad or dark events too right?
En resumen, esta película tiene el talento adecuado en todas las áreas importantes y el resultado final fue una película memorable y entretenida. Estoy esperando la segunda parte para ver cómo sigue evolucionando este personaje de Cruella.
¿De qué trataba la película?
Esta película trata sobre los orígenes de Cruella. La historia comienza con su nacimiento y termina con ella convirtiéndose en el poderoso personaje de Cruella que ya es conocido de la película 101 Dálmatas.

Su personalidad problemática comenzó a convertirse en un problema grave en su vida y en la de su madre. Con el tiempo deciden mudarse a otra ciudad y en medio del viaje la madre hace una visita rápida a una fiesta muy lujosa y en este lugar, la vida de Estella cambiará para siempre.
Poco después de esto, conoce a 2 niños de su edad que siempre están robando cosas y tratando de engañar a los adultos para que puedan obtener su dinero. Se hace amiga de ellos y desarrollará el tipo de amistad que puede durar toda la vida.
Esta parte de la película es solo la introducción a la Estella adulta, por lo que la película no pasa demasiado tiempo con la versión infantil. De adulta, Estella vive de lo que puede robar con la ayuda de sus 2 amigos. Desde que asistió a esa lujosa fiesta con su madre hace tantos años, se obsesionó con el diseño de moda, y se ha convertido en su pasión.
Con el tiempo, puede empezar a trabajar en una tienda de moda muy importante, no como diseñadora, sino como limpiadora. Esto no le impedirá seguir estudiando por su cuenta todo lo relacionado con el diseño de moda y dedicar parte de su tiempo libre a realizar sus propios diseños.
Parece estar en camino para finalmente conseguir el trabajo con el que siempre ha soñado y su crecimiento personal se pone en modo turbo tan pronto como esto sucede. Sin embargo, no olvidemos que estamos hablando de Cruella, así que también debe haber algunos eventos malos u oscuros, ¿verdad?
One of the coolest parts of the movie are some advanced and elaborated pranks Cruella will play on another character in order to claim the spotlight for her and begin to make a name of her own. These pranks were very creative, and they include one of the best entries I have ever seen of a character when attending a party.
The movie shows Cruella as this incredibly creative character but with a lot of pain and frustration caused by previous events in her life. Her "cruelty", which isn't really true cruelty but rather a deep wish to win for once in her life while at the same time getting back at people she considers abusive, is completely justified and understandable. The film tries to make the viewers sympathize with Cruella and does a good job with this. There are even a few slightly comedic moments, especially with the help of the sidekick played by Paul Walter Hauser.
The film will provide important twists and there are also several dramatic moments but the end result was much better than what I was expecting. This film really deserves the high praise it has received and I am looking forward to the second part, although I believe it will be extremely hard to produce a better Cruella film than this one, however, I do believe it is necessary to have at least another film because this one was just about the evolution of Estella into Cruella, the next one should be about Cruella in full mode.
How were the performance from the cast, the settings and the camera work?
The performance was fantastic. Emma Stone did a great job playing both personalities, Estella and Cruella and was very convincing throughout the majority of the film. There were a couple of "evil" laughs she makes while in Cruella mode that appears a bit exaggerated and fake but that's OK.
Emma Thompson also does a good job in her role as the wealthy, powerful and arrogant fashion lady. She does a terrific performance as this annoying woman who is too powerful for her own good but has gotten used to this privileged position and is willing to do anything to protect it.
The settings were nicely done. There are some scenes with the kid version of Estella and her 2 friends that look very nice as they are running away from some adult throughout the city and I liked how everything looked. The camera work was also nicely done too, the camera movements and angles were especially useful during some of the pranks and everything really felt like high quality and high budget production. It is one of my favorite live-action films from Disney in recent times, without taking into consideration anything related to Star Wars of course.
Final thoughts
Cruella is a worth watching film. Forget about the 101 Dalmatians movie and think of Cruella as a great drama film mixed with a little bit of crime and a story revolving around a very unique and creative character who has a lot of potential to be successful thanks to her skills but also has some dark personality traits due to her life experience.

Una de las partes más interesantes de la película son algunas bromas avanzadas y elaboradas que Cruella le hará a otro personaje para reclamar el centro de atención para ella y comenzar a hacerse un nombre propio. El trabajo de la cámara también se hizo muy bien, los movimientos y ángulos de la cámara fueron especialmente útiles durante algunas de las bromas y todo se sintió como una producción de alta calidad y alto presupuesto. Es una de mis películas con actores en vivo favoritas de Disney en los últimos tiempos, sin tener en cuenta nada relacionado con Star Wars por supuesto.

Cruella es una película que vale la pena ver. Olvídate de la película 101 Dálmatas y piensa en Cruella como una gran película dramática mezclada con un poco de crimen y una historia que gira en torno a un personaje único y creativo que tiene mucho potencial para tener éxito gracias a sus habilidades, pero también tiene algunos rasgos de personalidad oscuros debido a su experiencia de vida.
