Pig (2021): Not your standard outing.

We start off with a grizzled looking Nicolas Cage apparently living in the woods of Oregon with a pig. Long scraggly hair, full beard and looking like he hasn't bathed in months. The two wander through the woods and soon enough find the prize. A truffle.

A flashy yellow Camaro pulls up to the small cabin and a young man exits the car. We soon find out he's here to buy the spoils of the hunt from Cage. The truffle dealer appears each week with some supplies, attempts to engage with Cage who goes by the name of Rob and soon leaves. Rob has little to no interaction with the purchaser and we know there must be a bigger story left unsaid.

Later in the night Rob is accosted by two burglars who steal his prized sow. They leave him beaten and bruised. Rob's young truffle dealer Amir does come in handy as his defacto chauffeur. He wants a ride to Portland to begin the hunt for his beloved pig.

We soon find out Rob is not what he seems and the real story begins.

On the surface this may seem like a simple plot for a low grade revenge movie. The film could have easily become this but thankfully it does not. Love, loss, acceptance and inspiration all seep into the fiber of this film and make it a very unique viewing.

Nicolas Cage. What to say. Each role he chooses is either amazing or terrible. You don't really know until you sit down and watch one. This is certainly one of his better roles.

Rotten Tomatoes is giving a 97% critic score and an 86% audience score. These scores are a tad skewed given the film was released several days ago. A solid 7 from me and worth your time.
