El Último Mohicano [ESP-ENG]

Hola amigos. Cuando vemos una película basada en un libro que hemos leído, al principio tenemos muchas expectativas porque no sabemos si el libro será contado en su totalidad o la película solo se basa en la historia y los personajes, también es posible que tenga muchas variaciones que no esperas. Tenemos claro que la historia no se podría contar con todas las escenas del libro porque son muchas y es difícil representar todo, pero se podría hacer un esfuerzo.

When we see a movie based on a book we have read, at first we have many expectations because we do not know if the book will be told in its entirety or the film is only based on the story and the characters, it is also possible that it has many variations that you do not expect. We are clear that the story could not be told with all the scenes of the book because there are many and it is difficult to represent everything, but an effort could be made.

Bueno, a mí particularmente me gustan las historias que se cuentan lo más cerca posible de lo que dice el libro. Para mí eso es lo que debe ser, para que el lector no se sienta perdido con lo que lee y lo que está viendo. Por supuesto, no a todo el mundo le gusta esto y a otros les encanta que haya esas novedades que cambian el desarrollo de la historia e incluso modifican el final, algo que para mí no debería cambiar. Para mí, si un personaje murió en el libro debería morir en la película también, eso es lo que pienso, es solo un ejemplo.

Well, I particularly like stories that are told as close as possible to what the book says. To me that's what it should be, so that the reader doesn't feel lost with what they are reading and what they are seeing. Of course, not everyone likes this and others love that there are these novelties that change the development of the story and even modify the ending, something that for me should not change. For me, if a character died in the book he should die in the movie too, that's what I think, it's just an example.

Hace unos días, eran las 9:00 pm y me disponía a dormir, pero antes le di un vistazo a la programación y veo el titulo The Last of the Mohicans. Fue como un despertador, les juro que se me quito el sueño, tenía que ver esa película. Hace unos años me regalaron dos libros de una colección llamada Las Grandes Novelas de Aventuras y este libro “El Último Mohicano” venía entre ellas. Un libro con 189 páginas que no parecían muchas pero que sí tomamos en cuenta que la letra es sumamente pequeña, pues si, son muchas.

A few days ago, it was nine o'clock at night and I was about to go to sleep, but before I took a look at the program and saw the title The Last of the Mohicans. It was like an alarm clock, I swear I was sleepy, I had to see that movie. A few years ago I was given two books from a collection called The Great Adventure Novels and this book "The Last of the Mohicans" was among them. A book with 189 pages that didn't seem like a lot but if we take into account that the print is extremely small, well yes, it is a lot.

La historia está ambientada en el siglo XVIII concretamente en 1757, cuando en Norteamérica se libraba una guerra entre Inglaterra y Francia por el dominio del territorio, en cuanto a la ambientación la película es genial, todo parece muy real pero me era imposible no comparar el libro con lo que estaba viendo y la verdad es que en todo momento fruncía el ceño porque las cosas no eran como en el libro.

The story is set in the eighteenth century, specifically in 1757, when in North America there was a war between England and France for the domination of the territory, as for this work the movie is great, everything seems very real but it was impossible for me not to compare the book with what I was seeing and the truth is that at all times I frowned because things were not like in the book.

De todas maneras no dejé de verla, por que la película tiene su encanto. Es una historia de aventuras y amor. Aunque en el libro hay más aventura y el amor solo queda en miradas e interés de algunos personajes por otros, que a decir verdad en la película fueron cambiados y esto modifico en cierta parte el final de algunos personajes.

Anyway, I didn't stop watching it because the movie has its charm. It is a story of adventure and love. Although in the book there is more adventure and love only remains in glances and interest of some characters for others, which to tell the truth in the movie were changed and this modified to some extent the end of some characters.

Respecto al personaje principal, el libro y la película se llaman El último mohicano. Una tribu de los primeros nativos americanos que dio paso al resto de tribus, y de la que sólo quedan dos guerreros de sangre pura que son: Uncas y su padre Chingachook. Siendo Uncas el último mohicano, descrito en el libro como un hombre joven, fuerte, tranquilo, un guerrero fiel representante de sus descendientes. En la película no pude ver nada de Uncas, ya que era un personaje secundario que se veía muy poco en la pantalla, logrando tener un momento estelar al final de la película, pero me imagino que fue para que terminara como en el libro.

Regarding the main character, the book and the movie are called The Last Mohican. A tribe of early Native Americans that gave way to the rest of the tribes, and of which only two pure blood warriors remain who are: Uncas and his father Chingachook. Uncas being the last Mohican, described in the book as a young man, strong, calm, a faithful warrior representative of his descendants. In the movie I could not see anything of Uncas, since he was a secondary character that was seen very little on the screen, managing to have a stellar moment at the end of the movie, but I imagine it was so that it would end as in the book.

En la película el personaje principal era para Ojo de Halcón que en el libro es un hombre de mediana edad pero no tan joven, amigo íntimo de Chingachook, una persona que a pesar de ser de tez blanca prefiere vivir entre los nativos y también es conocido como Carabina Larga, nombre que se ha ganado por su gran puntería con el rifle. En mi lectura era un hombre inteligente, con muchas maniobras estratégicas que los sacaban de muchos apuros en esta historia de aventuras. En la película este personaje tuvo cambios y es en esos momentos donde fruncí el ceño.

In the movie the main character was for Hawkeye who in the book is a middle-aged but not so young man, a close friend of Chingachook, a person who despite being of white complexion prefers to live among the natives and is also known as Long Carbine, a name he has earned for his great marksmanship with the rifle. In my reading he was an intelligent man, with many strategic maneuvers that got them out of many predicaments in this adventure story. In the movie this character had changes and it is in those moments where I frowned.

Así como este personaje tuvo cambios que siento fueron hasta en su aspecto físico, porque aunque en el libro nunca lo vi siempre me lo imaginaba, otros personajes también sufrieron modificaciones en cuanto a su personalidad y otros que ni siquiera aparecieron en la película. Uno de esos personajes fue Duncan Heyward, quien para mí era un militar y hombre honorable, enamorado y correspondido por Alicia Munro, pero el personaje de la película no me gustó para nada.

Just as this character had changes that I feel were even in his physical appearance, because although in the book I never saw him I always imagined him, other characters also suffered changes in their personality and others that did not even appear in the movie. One of those characters was Duncan Heyward, who for me was a military man and honorable man, in love and corresponded by Alicia Munro, but the character in the movie I didn't like at all.

He escrito mucho y todavía no les he contado nada de la película, lo único que he descrito son las diferencias que vi con respecto al libro, la película no es nada nueva ya que tiene 30 años, fue estrenada en 1992 pero yo nunca la había vista y quizás si no hubiera leído el libro pues tampoco a estas altura hubiera tenido interés en verla.

I have written a lot and still have not told anything about the movie, the only thing I have described are the differences I saw with respect to the book, the movie is nothing new since it is 30 years old, it was released in 1992 but I had never seen it and maybe if I had not read the book I would not have been interested in watching it.

Trama / Plot

El Mayor Duncan Heyward, en plena guerra, es el encargado de acompañar a las hijas del comandante Munro, Cora y Alicia hasta el fuerte donde se encuentra su padre. Ellos son guiados por Magua, un indio de la tribu de hurones que les insiste tomar un atajo donde son emboscados por los hurones, quienes son aliados de los franceses, durante la emboscada son salvados por Ojo de Halcón, Chingachook y Uncas, quienes se ofrecen a llevarlos hasta su destino.

Major Duncan Heyward, in the middle of the war, is in charge of accompanying Major Munro's daughters, Cora and Alicia, to the fort where their father is. They are guided by Magua, an Indian of the Huron tribe who insists that they take a shortcut where they are ambushed by the Hurons, who are allies of the French. During the ambush they are saved by Hawkeye, Chingachook and Uncas, who offer to take them to their destination.

En su viaje encontrarán contratiempos encabezados por Magua que siente un odio personal contra Munro y quiere vengarse de sus hijas. Ojo de Halcón que es el personaje principal es un joven, a primera vista es como un Rambo del siglo XXVIII, fue criado por Chingachoonk a quien trata como su padre y a Uncas como su hermano. En el desarrollo de la historia despierta el interés amoroso por Cora, la hija mayor de Munro y esta será la pareja que desafiará la historia por su amor.

On their journey they will encounter setbacks led by Magua who feels a personal hatred against Munro and wants to take revenge on his daughters. Hawkeye, who is the main character, is a young man, at first glance is like a Rambo of the XXVIII century, he was raised by Chingachoonk whom he treats as his father and Uncas as his brother. In the development of the story he awakens the love interest for Cora, Munro's eldest daughter and this will be the couple that will challenge the story for their love.

La otra historia de amor está encabezada por Uncas y Alicia Munro. Pero sólo nos damos cuenta al final de la película por un acto de amor de uno de los implicados. A decir verdad me imaginé que también habían omitido la historia de amor de Uncas, porque no había percibido nada en ninguna escena, pero al parecer como estaba pendiente de otros personajes se me escapó y al final lo único que pensé fue "esto cuando pasó".

The other love story is headed by Uncas and Alicia Munro. But we only find out at the end of the film because of an act of love by one of the people involved. To tell the truth I figured they had also omitted Uncas' love story, because I hadn't perceived anything in any scene, but apparently as I was keeping an eye on other characters it escaped me and at the end all I thought was "this when it happened".

Si no leíste la novela, esta película tendrá un gran atractivo porque tiene escenas de batallas muy bien realizadas, la escenografía como lo mencioné al principio es estupenda, los paisajes y colores están muy bien construidos. En si, da la sensación de ser una película mas antigua. Me imagino que a todos los que leímos El Ultimo Mohicano, novela publicada por primera vez en 1826 (si, es muy antigua) estamos agradecidos de haber visto a nuestros personajes en carne viva aunque no sea por completo la misma historia.

If you didn't read the novel, this movie will have a great appeal because it has very well done battle scenes, the scenery as I mentioned at the beginning is great, the landscapes and colors are very well constructed. In itself, it gives the feeling of being an older movie. I imagine that all of us who read The Last of the Mohicans, a novel first published in 1826 (yes, it is very old) are grateful to have seen our characters in the flesh even if it is not quite the same story.

Hablando de personajes ahora voy a contarles de mi favorito. Me encanto y es que así mismo me lo imaginaba. Es Magua, el indio de la tribu de los hurones. El actor que personificó a este malvado lo hizo excepcional. Me encanto de verdad, y es que era un resentido en busca de aceptación de su gente que al principio lo había desterrado de la tribu haciendo que cayera en manos de los ingleses. Este es un personaje que odias pero que también amas, porque lo hace tan bien y como dije, así me lo imaginaba.

Speaking of characters, now I'm going to tell you about my favorite one. I loved him and that's how I imagined him. It is Magua, the Indian of the Huron tribe. The actor who played this bad guy was exceptional. I loved him, and he was a resentful man seeking acceptance from his people, who had initially banished him from the tribe, which caused him to fall into the hands of the English. He's a character you hate but also love, because he does it so well and as I said, that's how I imagined him.

Con mis opiniones puedes pensar que no me gustó la película, pero en realidad si lo hizo, solo que no me pude sacar de la cabeza la historia del libro y cada modificación no sabia como tomarla. Es una excelente película que recomiendo ver si no has leído el libro y si lo hiciste y te gustan los cambios en las historias y quieres ver a tus personajes de una manera diferente, este es tu película.

With my opinions you may think that I didn't like the movie, but I really did, I just couldn't get the story of the book out of my head and every modification I didn't know how to take it. It is an excellent movie that I recommend watching if you haven't read the book and if you did and you like changes in stories and want to see your characters in a different way, this is your movie.
