Hello, internet people! I hope you're well. Today I will talk about this movie (as promised) I will not go into so many technicalities, I will simply talk about positive and negative aspects of the film work, and a general opinion of the director's work at the end of the post, I hope you like it.

Hoy les hablaré de esta película (como lo había prometido) no voy a entrar en tantos tecnisismos, simplemente habalré de aspectos positivos y negativos del trabajo filmico, y una opinión general del trabajo del director al final del post, espero que les guste.
I'm not going to talk about the story and whether it's creative or not, because that's the author's responsibility since the movie is based on a book, so I'll skip straight to listing the positive things the movie contains.
No voy a hablar de la historia y si es creativa o no, porque eso es responsabilidad del autor ya que la película está basada en un libro, así que me saltaré directamente a enumerar las cosas positivas que contiene la película.
The most striking positive aspect is undoubtedly the design of the maze, it's not only the same as described in the book, but I would even dare to say that this is much better, it looks much more complex and tremendously imposing, as it should be. The only thing I didn't like was that in some areas it had different levels, since it would be much easier to climb the walls, and get to the top and see what was beyond its limits (which contradicts the argument that doesn't allow them to reach the top). They are supposed to be smooth walls over a hundred meters high and although lianas hang from them, the ascent was extremely exhausting to complete.
El aspecto positivo más llamativo sin lugar a dudas es el diseño del laberinto, no solo es igual a como lo describe el libro, sino incluso me atrevería a decir que mucho mejor, se ve mucho más complejo y tremendamente imponente, tal y como debía ser. Lo único que no me gustó fue que en algunas zonas tuviese diferentes niveles, ya que sería mucho más sencillo escalar las pareces y llegar a la cima y ver lo que había más allá de sus límites (cosa que contradice el argumento que no les permite llegar a la cima) Se supone que son paredes lisas de más de cien metros de alto y que aunque de ellas pendan lianas, el ascenso era sumamente agotador para completarlo.
I also liked the fact that the movie started exactly as in the book, it helps a lot to put yourself in Thomas' shoes, since after all, the story is oriented from his point of view.
También me gustó el hecho de que la película empezara exactamente como en el libro, ayuda mucho a situarse en la piel de Thomas, ya que después de todo, la historia está orientada desde su punto de vista.
I also liked the design of The Area, although I would have liked to see all the rest of the sites that made up the place and also to explain that each of them had a manager who were the members of the council that made the relevant decisions (something that was quite important and was not in the movie).
El diseño de El Área también me gustó, aunque me hubiese gustado ver todo el resto de los sitios que componían el lugar y asimismo que explicaran que cada uno de ellos tenía un encargado quines eran los miembros del consejo que tomaba las deciciones relevantes (algo que era bastante importante y no estuvo en la película).
The performances were also good, but not great either. The only one I can say that shined with his performances, was the main character, Oh, and also the guys who played Minho and Gally.
Las actuaciones también estuvieron bien, sin embargo tampoco fue algo del otro mundo. El único que puedo decir que se lució con sus actuaciones fue el protagonista, ¡ah! y también los chicos que interpretaron a Minho y a Gally.
The design of the penitents, while not identical to the book, was very good, I think being more like giant wasps than slugs... they were scarier.
El diseño de los penitentes, si bien no era iguál al libro, estuvo muy bien, creo que siendo más parecidos a avispas gigantes que a babosas... daban más miedo.
Ben's exile I think was the best scene in the whole movie, it was very well done. The actor playing Ben gave an excellent performance, the setting of the scene... the dull color palette, the cloudy sky, the breeze (which makes the viewer think it's cold because of the gray clouds in the sky) makes one think of a bleak afternoon in which someone's murder is going to be committed indirectly.
El destierro de Ben creo que fue la mejor escena de toda la película, estuvo muy bien hecha. El actor que interpreta a Ben hizo una excelente actuación, la ambientación de la escena... la paleta de colores opacos, el cielo nublado, la brisa (que hace pensar al espectador que es fría debido a las nubes grises del cielo) hace pensar en una tarde desoladora en la que se va a cometer indirectamente, el asesinato de alguien.
There was only one thing I hated in the scene: Thomas' complete indifference to the banishment, I think more empathy was shown by Chuck leaving the place, than Thomas calmly watching everything that was happening. In the book, Thomas is tormented by what he's seeing, he feels guilty because it was indirectly because of him they are banishing the boy, and helpless for not being able to stop the murder he's witnessing, all of that is apparent in his thoughts and body language plus he expresses the inability to look Ben in the face. All of that is lost in the film with the impassiveness demonstrated by Thomas.
Solo hubo algo que odié en la escena: la completa indiferencia de Thomas ante el destierro, creo que más empatía demostró Chuck retirándose del lugar, que Thomas mirando tranquilamente todo lo que ocurría. En el libro, Thomas está atormentado por lo que está viendo, se siente culpable porque fue indirectamente por su causa que están desterrando al chico, e impotente por no poder detener el asesinato que está presenciando, todo eso se aprecia en sus pensamientos y en su lenguaje corporal, además de que expresa la incapacidad de mirar a la cara a Ben. Todo eso se pierde en la película con la impasividad demostrada por Thomas.
Let's move on then to the things I didn't like.... the rest of the movie.
Pasemos entonces a las cosas que no me gustaron.... el resto de la película.
I'm kidding, but it's true that there were more negative aspects than positive in the movie (in my opinion) and I'll go through them and explain some of them.
Estoy bromeando, pero sí es verdad que hubo más aspectos negativos que positivos en la película (en mi opinión) y pasaré a decirlos y explicar algunos.
The events in the movie feel extremely slowed down, I understand that it's a movie and therefore they cannot put all the events of the book, however, there are many ways when talking about cinema to portray many necessary events and compress them into a sequence of scenes (but we will talk about that later).
Los enventos en la película se sienten en extremo acelerados, entiendo que es una película y que por consiguiente no pueden colocar todos los eventos del libro, sin embargo, hay muchas maneras cuando hablamos de cine para retratar muchos eventos necesarios y comprimirlos en una secuencia de escenas (pero de eso ya hablaremos más adelante)
By the climax of the film, the problem the inhabitants have is simply that the doors of the maze don't close, however in the book there was the absence of sun, lack of resources and yes, the perennial opening of the doors. In addition, the penitents entered the area specifically to take one oh them per night, something that led everyone to work hard to find the exit, because the accumulation of unfortunate events was the trigger.
Ya para el clímax de la película, el problema que tienen los habitantes es simplemente que las puertas del laberinto no cierran, sin embargo en el libro había ausencia de sol, falta de recursos y sí, la apertura perenne de las puertas. Además, los penitentes entraban al área específicamente a llevar a uno de ellos por noche, cosa que llevó a todos a trabajar duro para hallar la salida, pues la acumulación de eventos desafortunados fue el detonante
I expected to see the cliff in the movie, however it was not, which led to a different exit of the maze than in the book, in which the vast majority of the inhabitants decide to run and fight rather than stay in The Area, and die slowly at the hands of the penitents or starve to death because they have no sun for the plants and no resources to support the animals. Fighting for Teresa, Chuck and Thomas to enter the control panel and with the keys, deactivate the maze.
Esperaba ver el acantilado en la película, sin embargo no fue así, lo que llevó a una salida del laberinto distinta a la del libro, en la cuál la gran mayoría de los habitantes deciden correr y pelear antes de quedarse en El Área y morir lentamente a manos de los penitentes, o de hambre al no tener sol para las plantas ni recursos para mantener a los animales. Luchando para que Teresa, Chuck y Thomas entraran al panel de contro y con las claves, desactivaran el laberinto.
In the movie there is no telepathy of Teresa and Thomas, and I think it's disrespectful to the author of the book, after the absurd statements of the novice director of the film that telepathy "didn't work", I felt that he despised one of the most important aspects of the book and that has important part in the later parts, besides he's no one qualified to know what is best in the literary work of another. I sincerely want to see the next movies to see how he tries to fix the scenes with the absence of telepathy.
En la película no existe la telepatía de Teresa y Thomas y me pareció una falta de respeto para el autor del libro, tras las absurdas declaraciones del novato director de la cinta de que la telepatía «no funcionaba», sentí que despreció uno de los aspectos más importantes del libro y que tiene parte importante en las partes posteriores, además que no es nadie cualificado para saber lo que es mejor en la obra literaria de otro. Sinceramente quiero ver las siguientes películas para ver como intenta arreglar las escenas con la ausencia de telepatía.
The character development sucks, they could have simply made the movie with Thomas, Gally, Chuck and Minho, and not miss the rest of the important characters that looked like extras. Teresa is really an ornament, she does absolutely nothing in the movie, nothing, just being an ornament, besides the actress doesn't resemble the character at all, and if at least her acting was good or Teresa had had the same development in the movie as in the book, that aspect might have gone unnoticed.
El desarrollo de personajes es una porquería, sencillamente se habría podido hacer la película con Thomas, Gally, Chuck y Minho, y no echar de menos al resto de personajes importantes que perfectamente parecían extras. Teresa realmente está de adorno, no hace absolutamente nada en la película, ¡nada!, simplemente ser un adorno, además de que la actriz no se parece en lo absoluto al personaje, y si al menos la actuación de ella fuese buena o Teresa hubiese tenido el mismo desarrollo en la película que en el libro, ese aspecto quizá hubiese pasado desapercibido.
The director in charge of the film was Wes Ball and this was his first feature film work. I know it probably sounds very crude but in general parameters, I feel that he destroyed the literary work with his film adaptation, since it lacks depth, good character development, contains bad adaptations of the scenes and also took out elements too important for the development of the plot, which would most likely make him move even further away from the books in subsequent installments. It abused the action too much and removed the psychological thriller from the story.
El director a cargo de la cinta fue Wes Ball y éste fue su primer trabajo en largometrajes. Sé que propablemente suene muy cruda, pero en parametros generales, siento que destrozó la obra literaria con su adaptación filmica, ya que ésta carece de profundidad, buen desarrollo de personajes, contiene malas adaptaciones de las escenas y además sacó elementos demasiado importantes para el desarrollo de la trama, lo que muy posiblemente lo haría alejarse más aún de los libros en las entregas posteriores. Abusó demasiado de la acción y eliminó el thriller psicológico de la historia.
What I did love were the camera shots and that is really the responsibility of the director of photography, although I don't know if Wes Ball has an important part in this section (like James Wan, for example, who tells his managers beforehand how to do the job so that it looks the way he wants it).
Lo que sí me encantó fueron los planos de cámara y realmente eso es responsabilidad del director de fotografía, aunque desconozco si Wes Ball tiene parte importante en esta sección (como James Wan, por ejemplo que de antemano les dice a sus encargados como hacer el trabajo para que quede como él quiere).
The movie is entertaining but that's all, the bad thing about this is that who has seen the movie, may come to believe that the book is the same, and nothing further from reality, except for some negative aspects, the book is very very good, in fact it's a best seller, not at all the movie does justice to the book. I think that these creative liberties that some directors take are not always good and that leads to film disasters. On the other hand, there are authors who don't allow creative freedom to the directors and thus prevent their work from being sullied and I think that is what James Dashner should have done.
La película es entretenida pero eso es todo, lo malo de esto es que quién haya visto la película, puede llegar a creer que el libro es igual, y nada más lejos de la realidad, salvo algunos aspectos negativos, el libro es muy muy bueno, de hecho es un best seller, para nada la película hace justicia al libro. Creo que estas libertades creativas que se toman algunos directores no siempre son buenas y eso deriva en desastres filmográficos. Por otro lado hay autores que no les permiten la libertad creativa a los directores y así impiden que su obra se mancillada y creo que es lo que debió hacer James Dashner.
