WEDNESDAY: Even the most rigid heart is capable of knowing love

Hello my dear friends of the Movies & TV Shows community, I must confess that between Wednesday night and Friday afternoon, I have been delaying the series "Wednesday" or "Merlina", as we know this character in the Hispanic world.

I must tell you that it was hard for me to title the publication, because there are many characteristics that I could mention based on the main character, but in the end I think that everything is centered on the love that this girl has inside her and that for some reason she is unable to express.

And is that ultimately, Wednesday ends up doing everything to protect others: her family, her school, her classmates, and therefore takes great risks in which she gets to put her own life at stake. And behind a morbid message of selfishness, she masks a very noble task.

I found this series exquisite, from the plot, to the music and the scenery. As it could not be otherwise, Tim Burton was able to immerse us in a gloomy world in whose core comedy, colors, joy with mystery, darkness and bitterness battle.

You might think that launching a series on Netflix with The Addams Family as a topic would be a safe bet. But...would any director have been able to trap us in an almost childlike story with the quality of mystery and feeling befitting an adult?

I'm not at all a fan of children's movies or series, though I can watch and enjoy them (though I would never choose them), but this story, centered on an almost-childlike teenager from an eccentric family, kept me glued to the screen.

What does Tim Burton offer us in this production? Well, he has taken one of the characters of the oldest famous family on television, and has developed based on it, a story that takes place in the XXI century, but that simultaneously has tints of antiquity both for the gothic scenery of the school and the town where the plot takes place; as well as for the constant approaches that Wednesday has to one of her ancestors, a powerful witch who would have put an end to the discrimination and attempted genocide of the different ones, the expelled ones. We are talking about witches, warlocks, werewolves, mermaids and other beings that the common denominator of people would consider "abnormal" (that is why in the series, most people are called "normies").

The school where Wednesday is sent by her parents, the well-known Morticia and Homer (Gomez in English), is called Never More, which is directly related to a literary character from the real world, none other than Edgar Allan Poe, a well-known writer who has been previously taken to different screens for touching on themes of suspense, morbidity and terror.

The funny thing is that in designing Never More it seems to me that there was a very clever game that made use of what we already know that people love: Harry Potter and Howarts. While of course the plot at some point meets, the relationship between students, the rivalry between them, the comepetences in the school and the unsolved mysteries in the school following the casual or causal arrival of a particular student, make these two stories have a lot more in common than we might think.

As a lover of the Harry Potter world, far from falling into the existence of one side or the other, I fell in love with the Merlina series, because it keeps its particularities. Although I must admit that I would have liked to see more of the Addams Family in action as a whole. Little is seen of Morticia and Gomez, of Cousin Itt" we only have a picture, and who does accompany the small but powerful Wednesday permanently is Thing, who becomes a faithful servant of this student. Then, Uncle Fester participates, and we see the famous Lurch only in two or three moments.

When the series started and up until episode four or so, I spent a lot of time understanding why children and teenagers start showing violence. Of course, I thought, if this is what they're in the business of watching.... In this sense I think it can be violent not only in themes of monsters and special beings, but in the treatment that Wednesday, the heroine and protagonist presents to all her environment: parents, friends, beings, and even with the creatures that help her. She is constantly hostile, ungrateful, indifferent and disinterested.

I think a person who is molding her way of being might misinterpret this and conclude that acting this way is okay, or befits someone popular, or the hero.

However, with that amount of intolerance that this girl shows, she also shows incredible skills and abilities such as courage, persistence, responsibility, honesty, authenticity, self-respect, the search for justice and truth.

In fact, this that seemed to me so serious to say the least, became the most beautiful thing I found in this series. And is that, as I said at the beginning, this girl at the end, after a hard and cold image, ended up doing the possible and the impossible to get to the end of any truth, and at the beginning she does this clearly for a matter of ego, to beat the deception itself no matter what her face was, but then, her heart somehow starts to soften and at first she realizes that she has good feelings for people (although she finds it hard to accept it herself), and then, already getting to the end, she is able to let go and show it.

Tears came to my eyes when I saw that and for that reason it is the title of my post, in the end, it was all about love and respect, but it is very well masked behind a crude and hostile character.
