Heeeeeeeeello friends ;D I hope you are well, today I will talk to you about a particular movie that I liked a lot and although the plot is not so good, the emotion and intrigue are noticeable when watching it. This movie is a fiction mixed with music and many puppets, I could compare it with a scary version of the Muppets because of the particularity of their designs. It starred Jennifer Connelly in the role of Sarah Williams and the iconic David Bowie as Jareth. Directed by Jim Henson, creator of the already mentioned Muppets and for being one of the creators of Sesame Street.

With a score of 50/100 receiving mixed reviews, this film begins with Sarah Williams (Jennifer Connely), a 15 year old girl who lives with her parents, her stepmother and her brother Toby who is 1 year old. One night, the parents went out to a meeting and Sarah had to stay and take care of her little brother. Stressed by having to deal with the child, Sarah asks the king of the elves from a fantasy book called Labyrinth which she read to take him away without foreseeing that her wish would come true. Then King Jareth (David Bowie) shows up in front of her and tells her that she has 13 hours to solve the maze and rescue her little brother to prevent him from becoming a leprechaun.
During his journey, Jareth tests challenges that the girl must meet to reach the castle, each one more difficult. Along the way she makes friends with several puppets, Hoggle, Ludo, Sir Didymus and his dog Ambrosius who help her complete most of the traps. Upon reaching her goal, she is shown a King Jareth in love with Sarah and that despite being so evil, Jareth promises her the world of her dreams on the condition that he exercises absolute control over her. Sarah realizes that everything that is happening is just an illusion and wakes up in her room while Toby sleeps in his crib.
The film ends with a defeated King Jareth while Sarah and her friends celebrate in her room.
What I love about this movie is Bowie's demonstration and talent as an actor and singer, being the writer of some of the songs on the soundtrack. The creators of the film relied on stories like Alicia in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz for its development. Among the actresses who initially applied to bring Sarah Williams to life were Helena Bonham Carter, Sarah Jessica Parker and Laura Dern, although it was eventually awarded to Jennifer Connelly. The visual effects by then were considered modern and unique, perfectly designed and in real sizes. George Lucas, who was Henson's best friend, served as executive producer.

Al llegar a su objetivo, se muestra a un rey Jareth enamorado de Sarah y que a pesar de ser tan perverso, Jareth le promete el mundo de sus sueños con la condición de ejercer el control absoluto sobre ella. Sarah se da cuenta de que todo lo que está pasando es sólo una ilusión y despierta en su habitación mientras Toby duerme en su cuna.

Entre las actrices que se postularon en un principio para dar vida a Sarah Williams fueron Helena Bonham Carter, Sarah Jessica Parker y Laura Dern, aunque finalmente fue otorgado a Jennifer Connelly. Los efectos visuales para entonces eran considerados modernos y únicos, diseñados de manera perfecta y en tamaños reales. George Lucas quien era mejor amigo de Henson, fungió como productor ejecutivo.
