Guy (Ryan Reynolds) trabaja como cajero de un banco, su día a día transcurre igual todos los días con una rutina desde vestirse, tomar su café e ir al trabajo, es alegre, solitario, optimista y para él todos los días son felices, su frase no es tener un buen día, si no "tener un gran día", no importa lo que ocurra desde el robo del banco, atropello o pisoteo él mantiene la misma actitud.
Vive en Free City que es un video juego lleno de brutalidad y violencia, en realidad es un NPC (o Non-Playable-Character), es decir, un personaje no jugable, o un personaje no jugador. Tiene 4 años, dice su creador, protagonizado por el actor Joe Keery.
Ser como niño Alegre, Espontáneo, feliz.
Definitivamente los niños son el ejemplo a seguir, yo paso tiempo con niños y me encantan porque viven en el presente, disfrutan de lo que hacen y su percepción del mundo es diferente a la de un adulto. Puedes pensar que un niño no sabe nada, y para mí son más sabios que un adulto, porque mantienen su conexión con esa parte pura e inocente que todos tenemos.
El director de la película, Shawn Levy, lo dice en uno de sus comentarios: "La película trata de la esperanza y de preservar la inocencia en un mundo bastante cínico".

Guy tenía el deseo de encontrar el amor de su vida, un día ve a una jugadora de Molotov Girl (Jodie Comer) y se enamora a primera vista. Después de eso su vida empieza a cambiar y se da cuenta de la rutina en la que vive. Su compañero de trabajo, el vigilante del banco, le explica que no puede acercarse a los que tienen gafas de sol (esto son avatares de los jugadores), a lo que él hace caso omiso e insiste en acercarse a ella, lo que le lleva a querer salirse de las reglas del juego o pasar por lugares prohibidos.
El Amor la energía que transforma todo.
Y es a través del amor que despertamos, que nos motivamos, que somos capaces de hacer cualquier cosa. Aquí representado en un primer momento por el amor de pareja, pero también lo vemos en el amor hacia su amigo, resaltando el valor de la amistad, y hacia los habitantes de su ciudad a los que también muestra otro rumbo para sus vidas sin agresiones, sin abusos ni violencia.

Cuando se ponen las gafas descubren otra realidad, llena de recursos que les dan más posibilidades de sobrevivir en el juego. Consiguiendo fácilmente cosas que con su rutina diaria tenía que conseguir con mucho esfuerzo. Motivado por la jugadora Molotov Girl que le dijo que tenía que subir de nivel, lo consiguió obteniendo recursos y haciendo buenas acciones, diferente a como se obtenían los recursos mediante la violencia y la destrucción.
Se convirtió en el personaje más famoso, y los demás jugadores pensaron que era un jugador. Hasta que uno de los creadores del juego descubre que sólo es uno de los personajes del juego. Es aquí donde el personaje descubre la realidad en la que vive y quién es.
La Verdad te hará Libre
Al tener acceso a la verdad pudo superar muchas de sus limitaciones. Así, la película nos muestra un proceso de descubrimiento personal y de despertar de la conciencia, siendo capaz de desarrollar su propia inteligencia, y con ella crear su propio camino, más allá de la manipulación de los demás.
A nivel de culturas y filosofías desde la caverna de Platón, creyendo sólo lo que aparentemente vemos, hasta la construcción de un puente el Antakarana para poder cambiar de mundo. Con la ayuda del Creador, sabiendo que nosotros solos no podemos hacerlo y nuestra parte es tener la voluntad, la acción y el amor por ti y por todos para poder salvar el mundo. Todos estos aspectos lo pude percibir en la película.
Los críticos la compararon favorablemente como una combinación de Ready Player One, The Truman Show, The Matrix, The Lego Movie y Grand Theft Auto.

La película muestra en forma de comedia como esa ciudad ha vivido en medio de la violencia hasta el punto de considerarla como algo natural, hay un personaje que no puede dejar de mantener los brazos en alto, cualquier parecido con la realidad es pura coincidencia.
El mensaje que da el personaje es que en un mundo donde todos utilizan la violencia para conseguir cosas, él lo consigue siendo amable y buena persona, sin hacer daño a nadie. Incluso en una de las escenas se pelea con una versión de sí mismo, al ponerle las gafas y mostrarle la verdad cambia su atención y deja de pelear.
