Amanita caesarea (Caesar's mushroom)

Amanita Caesarea

Amanita caesarea (Caesar's mushroom) is one of the largest of the amanitas, sometimes attaining a cap diameter of 18cm.

One of the most beautiful European mushrooms with an orange-red shiny hat, golden yellow leaves and beetroot, yellowish flesh and a wide white egg shell from which the tricot develops. It grows in light forests and on grassy patches of deciduous forests in areas with a milder climate, typical of wine-growing regions. If we take into account the orange-red hat, the yellowish leaves and the bet, which has a free white shell at the base, and under the leaves hanging mats, we cannot miss the Caeser's mushroom.

Due to its rarity, this type of mushroom is protected in many European countries. All photos were taken in Istria, Croatia.
