Hola hermosa comunidad de Motherhood , en esta ocasión les quiero hablar de un tema de gran importancia para las mamis primerizas y las no tan primerizas también y es el riesgo de asfixia mientras duermen nuestro bebés y esto quiero ilustrarlo con una experiencia que tuve con la hija de mi prima.
Hello beautiful Motherhood community, this time I want to talk about a topic of great importance for first time moms and not so first time moms too and that is the risk of suffocation while our babies sleep and I want to illustrate this with an experience I had with my cousin's daughter.
Recuerdo una noche , ella todavía tenía los puntos de la cesárea y por eso la estábamos ayudando con la bebe, ella alimento a su niña y pacientemente le saco los gases, la acostó en su cuna boca arriba y nos acostamos a dormir, 3 horas más tarde escuche un sonido extraño en la cuna de la niña, me paré rápidamente prendí la luz y cuando la vi, estaba ahogándose con un buche o reflujo que había tenido la bebé, el reflujo había salido con tantas fuerza que hasta lo había aspirado por sus fosas nasales.
Apresuradamente tomamos la niña y asustadas comenzamos a soplarla, ninguna de las dos sabía qué hacer, hasta que finalmente la bebé respiro, recuerdo que mi prima lloró casi toda la noche, sentía remordimiento de conciencia por lo que le había pasado a la niña, sentía que había sido culpa de ella y que quizás de no habernos despertado la niña pudo haber muerto.
I remember one night, she still had the stitches from the cesarean section and that is why we were helping her with the baby, she fed her baby and patiently took out the gas, she laid her in her crib on her back and we went to sleep, 3 hours later I heard a strange sound in the baby's crib, I stood up quickly I turned on the light and when I saw her, she was choking with a cough or reflux that the baby had had, the reflux had come out with so much force that she had even aspirated it through her nostrils.
I remember that my cousin cried almost all night, she felt remorse for what had happened to the baby, she felt that it had been her fault and that maybe if we had not woken her up the baby could have died.
Después de ese día mi prima acostumbro a acostar a la niña de lado en posición fetal y más nunca le recostó boca arriba, por lo menos mientras pasaba los primeros meses de vida, ni tampoco boca abajo, cuando le contó a su pediatra, él le dijo que la posición fetal era una de las posiciones más seguras para dormir a un bebé lactante y que si la acostaba boca arriba siempre debía colocarle la cabecita de lado, pero que era mejor la posición fetal.
After that day my cousin used to lay her baby on her side in the fetal position and never laid her on her back, at least during her first months of life, nor on her stomach. When she told her pediatrician, he told her that the fetal position was one of the safest positions to put a nursing baby to sleep and that if she laid her on her back she should always place her head on her side, but that the fetal position was better.
También le recomendó quitar cualquier almohada, pañito o toalla que por accidente dejemos en la cuna de nuestro bebé , ya que sin querer ellos se la pueden arrojar en la cara, así mismo le recomendó no acostarla boca abajo, porque podría ocasionar una muerte súbita o muerte mecánica y que siempre la colocara en su cuna, porque muchas madres por el cansancio acostumbran a amamantar a sus bebés en la cama y dejarlos durmiendo con ellas, el pediatra explico que esto puede ser causa de muchos accidentes y caídas ya que dormidos sin querer podemos hasta asfixiar a nuestros bebés.
Como padres son muchas las cosas que tenemos que aprender, pasan los años y seguimos aprendiendo.
He also recommended her to remove any pillow, handkerchief or towel that we accidentally leave in our baby's crib, because they can unintentionally throw it in their face, he also recommended not to lay her face down, because it could cause sudden death or mechanical death and always put her in her crib, The pediatrician explained that this can be the cause of many accidents and falls, since we can even suffocate our babies when we are asleep without wanting to do so.
As parents there are many things we have to learn, years go by and we keep on learning.
