Загалом це пам'ятник Катерині II та її сподвижникам — Хосе де Рібасу, Францу де Воллану, Григорію Потьомкіну та Платону Зубову. Всі ці люди причетні до того, що в квітучих акаціях з'явилось місто біля Чорного моря – красуня Одеса. Вона повстала на руїнах греко-татарського Хаджибея в 1794 році. За що, звичайно, дякую цим людям.

In general, it is a monument to Catherine II and her associates - Jose de Ribas, Franz de Vollan, Gregory Potemkin and Platon Zubov. All these people are involved in the fact that in blossoming acacias appeared a city near the Black Sea - the beautiful Odesa. It was rebuilt on the ruins of the Greek-Tatar Hajibey in 1794. For which, of course, I thank these people.
"Наказуємо бути порту і місту" - саме з цих слів імператриці Катерини Другої, виголошених у 1794 році, як свідчить легенда, почалася 200-річна історія Одеси. Вперше пам'ятник з'явився в Одесі у 1900 році. Головним архітектором був Юрій Дмитренко, скульптором Михайло Попов, інженером Сікорський за участі скульптора Бориса Едуардса.
"We order to be a port and a city" - it is from these words of Empress Catherine II, uttered in 1794, according to legend, began the 200-year history of Odessa. The monument first appeared in Odessa in 1900. The main architect was Yuri Dmitrenko, sculptor Mikhail Popov, engineer Sikorsky with the participation of sculptor Boris Eduards.
Проте, в 1920 році після остаточного встановлення радянської влади скульптуру демонтували. Чотири скульптури сподвижників імператриці зберігались у краєзнавчому музеї, а від статуї самої Катерини II залишилася тільки голова. На місці засновників встановили скульптуру Карлу Марксу, котра протрималась там не дуже довго. Сильний порив вітру зніс новий монумент, котрий вирішили не відновлюти.
However, in 1920, after the final establishment of Soviet power, the sculpture was dismantled. Four sculptures of the Empress's companions were kept in the museum of local lore, and only the head of the statue of Catherine II remained. A sculpture of Karl Marx was installed on the site of the founders, which did not last long there. A strong gust of wind tore down the new monument, which they decided not to restore.
До речі, через рік після встановлення пам'ятнику на всесвітній Паризькій архітектурній конференції Катерининська площа в Одесі була визнана кращою в Європі.
Знов скульптура постала на своє почесне місце у 2007 році. Більшість фрагментів є оригінальними, тобто це ті деталі, котрі були в першому варіанті. Скульпторам необхідно було відновити тільки деякі деталі, щоб засновники Одеси виглядали гармонійно та правильно.
By the way, a year after the monument was erected at the World Paris Architectural Conference, Catherine Square in Odessa was recognized as the best in Europe.
The sculpture regained its place of honour in 2007. Most of the fragments are original, ie these are the details that were in the first version. The sculptors needed to restore only some details so that the founders of Odessa looked harmonious and correct.
Звичайно, навколо цього пам'ятнику розгорались скандали та суди. Його неодноразово намагались перенести в інше місце, проте у квітні 2019 року Верховний суд України поставив остаточну крапку, відхиливши вимогу громадських про перенесення пам'ятника Засновникам Одеси. Добре це чи погано я не знаю, але пам'ятник гарний і його видно здалеку :)
Of course, scandals and lawsuits broke out around this monument. He was repeatedly tried to move to another place, but in April 2019 the Supreme Court of Ukraine put an end to it, rejecting the public's request to move the monument to the Founders of Odesa. I don't know if it's good or bad, but the monument is beautiful and it can be seen from afar :)
