Children are our future and having a playground in a neighborhood is necessary for them. We all know why a playground is necessary for a child. A neighborhood playground provides social, mental, emotional, and physical benefits for a child and helps to increase self-esteem.
I am a girl, who has rarely played around in an open space. Due to a lack of open space, I had to play inside the brick concrete walls with my dolls. Yes, land value is high now and scarcity of a playground can be seen in many developed cities. Even it's not possible to provide an activity zone for kids in every neighborhood. In Dhaka city, I have never seen an appropriate play zone for kids. Some residential complex provides indoor activity zone or semi-public activity zone for kids. The first problem is, there is not enough land available to build such activities zone, and the second problem is safety. Sometimes parents don't have enough time to take their kids into a park. That's why I personally feel, it's very important having a small playground or activity zones for kids.
Today while walking around, I have found an activity zone for kids. Instead of saying this area as a residential neighborhood, this area is known for the residence of students, moreover hostel area. The buildings you are seeing here, are hostels. So, it was kind of surprising to see a children's activity zone in a hostel area.
It's spring here so this is the perfect season for outdoor activities but the question is, from where kids will come here to play.
Then I have noticed that there are some private residences across the main street so perhaps, this entire neighborhood area has selected this space to be a kid's activities zone. There are beautiful sitting arrangements as well, some benches. You can sit there for a while having a cup of tea/coffee or maybe you can spend time with your kids there. I also noticed some monkey bars, probably for adults.
Such a kind of activity zone provides a clean atmosphere that is needed for a child to develop cognitive, social, and physical skills. The elements of this type of space help a child to interact and give the lesson of engagement. Have you ever notice how a kid plays with toys? They give full concentration on their toys and their pattern of playing with playground equipment helps to grow their psychological and behavioral skill.
A playful environment allows a kid to engage with their surrounding environment and also helps to build the connection with the community and with others according to the surrounding context. They come up with ideas and helps them to think critically.
An interesting fact is, many doctors recommend parents let their children play with the sand. Many research stated every movement is important and notable for physical development while engaging with sand play. Playing with the sand helps to develop motor skills and strengthen muscles. A kid finds how to hold a shovel slowly while playing with the sand.
Let your child play with the sand, it is necessary for him. Besides, it's important to manage time for your child and take him/her outside to interact and engage with the atmosphere and with other kids.
