91st day of the war.
It's been three months since the war started. February turned into May, another spring flew by. Again, we are learning to catch time by the tail, to catch moments and have time to enjoy life in between tragic and significant events in world history.
Минуло вже три місяці війни. Лютий перетворився на травень, чергова весна пролетіла, ніби й не було її. Знову ми вчимося ловити час за хвіст, ловити моменти та встигати насолоджуватися життям у перервах між трагічними та значними подіями у світовій історії.

There is a lot of talk in Europe that Ukraine needs to "soften its position", start "negotiating" with moscow and (naturally) make territorial concessions. This is supported by Germany, France, Italy and Hungary. It is very unpleasant to hear about such rhetoric after all that has happened over the past 3 months. Ukrainians are dying for European values and for preventing our Bucha from happening in any European country. It is bitter and insulting to hear that someone can think we are ready to give away ANY of our regions. Dmytro Kuleba noted very well that those who are trying to blackmail Ukraine, including through the argument about grain supplies, should first come to the graves of murdered children to talk to their parents.
У Європі багато говорять про те, що Україні необхідно "поступитися", починати "домовлятися" з москвою та йти (природно) на територіальні поступки. За це виступають Німеччина, Франція, Італія та Угорщина. Дуже неприємно чути про таку риторіку після того, що сталося за останні 3 місяці. Українці помирають за європейські цінності та за те, щоб у жодній країні Європи не повторилася наша Буча. Гірко і прикро від самої думки про те, що хтось може припускати, що ми готові віддати БУДЬ-ЯКУ з наших областей. Дмитро Кулеба дуже добре зазначив, що ті, хто намагається шантажувати Україну, зокрема через аргумент про постачання зерна, спочатку нехай приїжджають на могили вбитих дітей, щоб поговорити з їхніми батьками.

Finally, I'll try to make you laugh a bit. Today I was amused by one piece of news that came from the occupied Crimea. The so-called speaker of the state council in Crimea, vladimir konstantinov, suggested that learning foreign languages is "a stupid following of a foreign culture" and it is necessary to learn "one's own" languages. I would not consider this opinion worthy of attention, but I decided to amuse you too.
Накінець, спробую вас трохи потішити. Сьогодні мене повеселила одна новина з окупованого Криму. Так званий спікер державної ради в Криму владімір константінов припустив, що вивчення іноземних мов - "це тупе слідування чужій культурі" і необхідно вивчати "свої" мови. Не вважала б цю думку хоч трохи вартою уваги, але вирішила потішити і вас.

As a linguist, it seems to me that a person who believes that learning a language is superfluous seems narrow-minded to me. First, numerous studies show that learning languages is an excellent prevention of dementia and other disorders. Secondly, languages are a window into the world of information, especially languages that are among the five most widely used in the world. You can read research, interviews, watch movies and consume other important and interesting content in the original language. You get to know the culture better. How can one even admit the possibility of not learning languages (especially English) in schools? Denying progress is like standing in front of a moving bulldozer. Absolutely useless and pointless. I think my readers, as intelligent and thinking people, will agree with me.
Мені, як лінгвістці, здається, що людина, яка вважає, що вивчати якусь мову – зайве, здається недалекою. По-перше, численні дослідження показують, що вивчення мов є чудовою профілактикою деменції та інших розладів. По-друге, мови – це вікно у світ інформації, особливо мови, які входять до п'ятірки найпоширеніших у світі. Ти можеш читати дослідження, інтерв'ю, дивитися фільми і споживати інший важливий і цікавий контент в оригіналі. Ти краще пізнаєш культуру. Як можна навіть припускати можливість того, щоб не вивчати мови (тим більше англійську) в школах? Заперечувати прогрес - це як стояти перед бульдозером, що рухається. Абсолютно марно і бездумно. Думаю, мої читачі, як інтелігентні та думаючі люди, зі мною погодяться.
