Для мене стало відкриттям те, що в столиці є пам’ятник гетьману Івану Мазепі. Причому коли я фотографував цей пам’ятник то й гадки не мав, що присвячений він саме видатному гетьману.
It was a revelation for me that there is a monument to Hetman Ivan Mazepa in the capital. And when I photographed this monument, I had no idea that it was dedicated to the outstanding hetman.
Та й дійсно, монумент виглядає з першого погляду як такий, що не має до Мазепи жодного відношення. Пам’ятник являє собою голуба, що починає свій політ з кулі, яка оточена рельєфами соборів, які були побудовані за кошти видатного гетьмана. Сам голуб складається з двох частин, що символізує єдність правобережної та лівобережної України. Хвіст голуба обвиває саму кулю та церкви. При цьому вся композиція височіє на гранітному постаменті та обертається навколо власної осі.
Indeed, the monument looks at first glance as having nothing to do with Mazepa. The monument is a dove that begins its flight with a ball, which is surrounded by reliefs of cathedrals, which were built at the expense of the famous hetman. The dove itself consists of two parts, which symbolizes the unity of right-bank and left-bank Ukraine. The dove's tail wraps around the ball and the church. The whole composition rises on a granite pedestal and rotates around its own axis.
Це пам’ятник було встановлено 19 січня 2009 року на місці підірваного комуністами Микільського військового собору, який також був побудований за кошт Івана Мазепи. Цікаво, що монумент з’явився в Києві ще до початку російсько-української війни, але вже тоді у москалів добряче підгорало з цього приводу. Ну це й не дивно, адже видатний Мазепа став ворогом Петра І.
This monument was erected on January 19, 2009 on the site of the Mykolayiv Military Cathedral, which was blown up by the Communists and was also built at the expense of Ivan Mazepa. Interestingly, the monument appeared in Kyiv before the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war, but even then the Muscovites had a good burn in this regard. Well, this is not surprising, because the famous Mazepa became an enemy of Peter I.
Але повернемося до монументу. Створений пам’ятник всесвітньо відомим ізраїльським скульптором Франком Майслером. Розташована скульптура таким чином, що якщо дивитися на нього зі сторони колишнього «Палацу Піонерів», то скрізь нього видно декілька златоглавих церков, побудованих на території Києво-Печерської лаври за кошти Івана Мазепи.
But back to the monument. A monument to the world-famous Israeli sculptor Frank Meisler was created. The sculpture is arranged in such a way that if you look at it from the side of the former "Palace of Pioneers", you can see several golden-headed churches built on the territory of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra at the expense of Ivan Mazepa.
