Battle Chasers #3

Issue #1 - The first issue review and explanation of what I'm doing here.
Issue #2 - The set up continues.

The story so far: Gully is being protected by Knolan and Calibretto after running into them while fleeing a Lycelot attack. She put on the gauntlets and dispatched her attackers as well as destroying half of Knolan's house. Garrison has been informed that his old friend Aramus' daughter has been attacked. Red Monika has arrived at Skyhold to break out Ryon del Soya. A politician was murdered by a doll with a sinister figure indicating his dislike of Knolan.

Issue three picks up right where we left off in two. Red Monika and the gang have arrived at Skyhold and are preparing the prison break. We learn that Skyhold is a "prison without walls." The Mentu, a high order of monks keep super criminals in check by their psionic will power. Lesser criminals are just held on higher parts where they cannot escape due to the altitude. Maintenance is done around the floating fortress using Strata Rays.

The prison break plan is to use these to gain access to the upper levels and free Ryon del Soya. It goes pretty well until he distrusts Red Monika during the escape. She took out all the guards on her way but he picked up a gun on the way out. He fires a shot that hits the mana containment unit that keeps the fortress afloat. In the explosion the two jump and Bengus manages to catch them on a Strata Ray.

Next we see a shadowy figure collecting evidence, kind of obvious this Garrison. He is doing some research on the Lycelot attack and tracking Gully.

At the same time, King Vaneer is in a meeting where they're talking about the attack on Skyhold. They don't know it was just Red Monika freeing a prisoner, due to the explosion. They think it was an act of war with another country. Maestro, the leader of the Marshal Paladins shows up. With Aramus missing and Garrison retired, Maestro is considered the strongest person in the lands.

Maestro delivers a list of escaped prisoners. Turns out they are very dangerous and he says the King should worry about them all. There is a very shady and omminous feel to the whole exchange indicating that King Vaneer may not be such a good guy.

That is where Gully, Knolan, and Bretto are headed though. We learn that Calibretto does not particularly like Vaneer. Knolan says it is a biased opinion since it is Vaneer that ordered the destruction of war golems, like Calibretto, after the war was over. So we get a mixed picture of King Vaneer. He seems respected but also not such a good person all the time.

While walking the group falls into a trap and a robed figure dashes in and captures Gully.

After a quick scuffle, Knolan makes it clear that he is willing to kill for Gully. This stops the fight and reveals the attacker to be Garrison. Who has the same goal.

In this issue we get a lot of action. The prison break scene was great. It also sets up the rest of the story. With all these escaped criminals posing a threat to our heroes now, how are they going to make it to the King? And is this all part of the antagonist's plan? We don't really know. But it should make for some cool action in upcoming issues. We also grew our party by one now that Garrison has met up with Gully, Knolan, and Calibretto. But are they going to place to much faith in the King? We'll hopefully find out more. I genuinely don't remember the answer to these questions! Haha. 😅 So I'm looking forward to finishing up.

To Be Continued!
