The COMedy Rumble: Why is it always me?

untitled.gif
I don't want to say I have very bad luck, all I'm just saying is if there are three hundred people in a room and someone with a gun is asked to shoot one person, he'd pick me no doubt.

I get in trouble unnecessarily because I think I have "bad luck". Because of this, I'm now under my lecturer's radar. This is how it is, everytime he comes to teach, someone replaces his white board marker with a permanent one. The joke happens when he tries to wipe of the board to write something new. I started as a mistake first, someone accidentally put a permanent marker for him to write. Surprisingly, he reacted calmly to it so what started as a joke turned into tradition.

Someone would put a permanent marker on the table. There was one rule to this game, don't get caught. He would usually say he was going to get the person doing this one day so he just went along with the joke. I wasn't one to play the prank on him but I was always there for the laughs. I would wonder why he didn't just test the marker first before he wrote. I just ended up thinking it was all part of his elaborate plan to catch the perpetrator.

He didn't catch anybody in two months. I should've left the pranking for the pranksters but no, I let the devil use me again.

Before he came to class this particular day, I had bought the marker from the lady outside, put the permanent one on the table and taken the white board marker. Everything was going fine. He came into the hall as always, everybody greeted and he proceeded with the lecture.

About thirty minutes into the lecture, we heard a knock on the door of the hall, the lady I got the permanent marker from was returning the change I forgot to collect. He called her in and asked her to point towards the person that bought it from her. After the quick glance round the hall, she pointed to me. He had a very devilish smile on his face, I knew I was in trouble. He tells her thank you, gets the change from her and asks her to leave. He then asked me to come to the front of the hall, said I should come and get my change. He was totally calm about the whole thing but my heart was pounding so hard.

He pulled up a sheet of paper and asked me to write my name, registration number, along with how much I bought the marker. My fate was sealed. He asked me to go back to my sit and continued with the lecture like nothing happened. He even used the permanent marker to write on the board. Yes, my lecturer was a psycho. I couldn't even concentrate. He left class and left me with my colleagues telling me everything was going to be fine. Easy for them to say, they didn't just write their name on a sheet of paper and have the lecturer walk away with it.

Later that day, my head of department called me and said he lecturer said I had volunteered to sweep his office that day. I couldn't even complain. The next day was the same thing. Turns out this man had been keeping records of all the days the prank was pulled on him and I was going to work till I made up for those days. I swept for 13 days straight. Fine boy like me sweeping the HOD's office. It didn't help my street cred at all. I'm done with pranks because I know if I ever pull another one, I'll be caught.
